Hmmm . .. . . How short the memories are . . . . .one year ago about 80% of the posters absolutely hated the drafting of Matt Ryan!!! Too many interceptions, weak arm, slow . . . .terrible move by Dimitroff. Funny . . .now I see someone making the Baker draft seem bad. I thought Baker was pretty good last year when he was not hurt. This team is going in the right direction. Once the D gets solidified they'll be fine. Definitely tough schedule this year. Good Luck Falcs!!! As a BC Alum I'll again be rooting loudly for Matt Ryan!Q

The 2008 season was the benefit of the 9th easiest schedule in the NFL. The Bulldogs could have won with that schedule.

The 1st 2 games of the 2009 preseason was just an extension of the 2008 season, playing against the Detroit (lost) & the Rams is not something you can be proud of and base your team's success against for the upcoming regular season.

The 2009 Chargers are not the 2008 version that some of you can't get into your heads. The team that you barely defeated in 2008 was a team without Shawne Merrimann and a banged up LT. This season they are both healthy and they will be the start of the true assessment of just how weak this 2009 Falcon team really is.

If the Falcons are smart, they better not play Ryan more than a quarter tonight and better not even think of playing him at all next week against the Ravens, because he would be exposed terribly against that great defense and the Ravens would have added motivation, since Flacco was robbed of the "ROY" last season.

Yes it will be a very long season and Ryan will see for the first time what it feels like to be banged up. I guarantee you, a sophomore slump will be in the cards. Count on it!

Offense will be really good assuming no injuries. Unless they are really holding something back, defense is really going to be a problem, really don't see much pass rush, rush defense or pass defense and we haven't played anything which can remotely be described as a good offense yet.

Mark, you are correct, Dave Hampton lost the 3 yards back and what is more, that caused him to finish the season under 1,000. That was the sole bright spot for the Falcons that year. Hampton and Bubba Bean (Texas A&M) used to form the back tandem we called the "Fumble And Stumble Twins".

NFL network has a little segment where they interviewed Merlin Olsen and Ronnie Lott on their careers and great defenses and defensive players. One questions was what was the toughest guy you ever played against. Both described the same situation - great angle, great head of steam, and just unloaded on the guy, but to no avail. For Olsen, it was Jim Brown. For Lott, it was William Andrews. They showed a clip of what Lott described with the massive hit, and Andrews just running over him. I damn near cried. Andrews from Thomasville, GA, the toughest 210 Lbs the NFL has ever seen and by far the best running back the Falcons ever had, it is not even close.

You forget one BIG thing Schultz..... DEFENSE. This team will NOT be better than last year because of DEFENSE. Show me one team that had the same turnover in DEFENSE in one season, as many ROOKIES being counted on, that has actually done well (or at least better than our defense of last year). Not saying the changes didn't need to be made, but it ain't happenin' this year my friend. If the Falcons end up above .500, it'll be because of the offense. 11-5 again? No way.

Best overall staff...maybe.

Definitely not the best defensive coaches. Probably before your time here Mark, but we actually were terrific defensively once upon a time. The name "Gritz Blitz" was the wording. I believe this was around the 1977 or 78 seasons. Finished 7-7 and 9-7 in those two years. Made the playoffs once and lost to Philly. Little offense cost us.

Bad News lets let the past be the past, because after the Falcons start the season by stinking up the whole NFL, I don't want to hear any excuses from their sorry fans. Lets keep it current, this year Falcons team suck, if you mention 2007 it will give them an excuse to blame the 2009 woes on "You Know Who". The sorry Falcons fans are always looking for excuses.

Falcons will be 4-12 in 2009
