Dawgs in denial? Last year’s Georgia Tech score: 42-all

A typo? Sure. But a Type A typo if ever there was one. (Photo by M. Bradley)

A simple typo? Sure. But a Type A typo if ever there was one. (Photo by M. Bradley)

Doing my due diligence on Willie Martinez’s defense, I ran across an eye-opening score on Page 163 of Georgia’s 2009 media guide. The score from last year’s Georgia Tech game is reported as Georgia 42, Tech 42. Which would be a tie. Which would be, from the UGA perspective, wholly preferable to reality.

We all know Tech and Georgia can’t even agree on which side has won how many games in the bitter series: Georgia claims 59 victories against 37 losses and five ties; Tech claims 39 victories against 59 losses and five ties. Still, it’s not often we see a loss turn into a tie. (Although Georgia folks still insist a win became a loss in 1999 when Al Ford and his crew failed to see Jasper Sanks not fumble.)

So this was pretty odd, and definitely amusing. Even Claude Felton, Georgia’s Hall of Fame publicist, laughed off the typo. “I guess we felt like a tie was better than a loss,” he e-mailed. (Though he did note the score and the result — Tech won 45-42 — are correct in the all-important series standings.)

In 2004 Georgia had great fun with Reggie Ball’s fourth-down throwaway: “A math school and the players can’t count to four?” So consider this numerical payback: All the calculators on all the computers at Michael Adams’ university? They stop functioning above 42.

Give them a few years, there will be an asterick besides the 1999 game as well as last year.

What a bunch of schmucks over there. Considering they turn off the scoreboards immediately after a loss. Now they can’t bring themselves to put the correct score in the media guide.

No worries, Mark. After all, the guy in charge of the media guide is a former UGA football letterman, who, when awarded his letter, asked his coach to read it to him.

I’m sorry, but this blog is a funny one Mark! I’m sure the score was a mistake……”Well, I think?” LOL!

Mark, thanks for the recent blogs. I told my wife last night getting ready for College Football is better than Christmas. She replied “Hanukkah!” I’m like whatever. Oy!

So, let the kiddy remarks begin………. Ramblin Wreck!

Um, something else. Is Tempe in Arkansas? The media guide seems to imply that, too…

I have the game on tape and occasionally watch it, always fearing that somehow Georgia will win. But they don’t.

You nerds are just realizing that because it is such a rare occurence when you beat the Dawgs!!! I heard Reggie Ball was top of his class at GT. Wow, you guys must be real proud.

Wow, that is an “official” publication put out by the UGA Athletic Association? Wrong scores, wrong state abbreviations… Maybe they need to hire a new proof reader. Not sure the current one could have even passed Jim Harrick Jr.’s famous class.

Doesn’t apply to this story, but have to put this somewhere. Isn’t everyone feeling so sorry for Rick Pitino? That bad media reporting “lies”. His family has gone through pure hell because of the media? NO RICK, they are in pure hell because you couldn’t keep your pants on in a restaurant, when you were married, even with your assistants just around the corner hearing it all. How about taking some responsibility? We tell that to athletes all the time… Vick, Plaxico, etc. Don’t let Pitino play the part of the victim. That would be like the Governor of SC saying how he has been mistreated. Ptiino’s no different, I feel sorry for both their families, but lets get it correct as to whose fault it is that their families are in this position. Tell Pitino to step up and deal with it, not whine about how he is being mistreated.

Last year, UGA didn’t even show up against Tech, due to overconfidence, even though they had a lot more talent. This year, the dawgs will be ready and beat Tech easily. The SEC is just too big and fast for these overrated ACC teams. Dawgs 40 Tech 22–mark it down.

The dawgs suck…pure and simple.

Mark, note for the record that there is no discrepancy on the wins and losses in this series…the NCAA agrees with TECH’s numbers.

Let me tell you something else that sucks….any Tech fan that ever supported or defended chan gomer gailey in any way….that includes many on the HIVE website. They propped up gailey for 6 long sorry years…they suck every bit as bad as he does.

Thank God and Greyhound that the absbolute sorriest excuse for a coach in the history of the world, chan gomer gailey, is gone forever. He should have taken all his idiotic apologists with him.

There is a new sheriff in town….his name is Paul Johnson…he is the real deal….and he is going to kick the dawgshiiite out of the athens correctional institute hushpuppies.

Bubba,…last year was a decent season on the Flats. Good first year with Coach Johnson at the helm. We’re definately expecting more success in the seasons to come. You can play with the numbers all you want to, but nothing will take away the pain you felt in November. Better work on dealing with,…cause it ain’t changing anytime soon.
