Doing my due diligence on Willie Martinez’s defense, I ran across an eye-opening score on Page 163 of Georgia’s 2009 media guide. The score from last year’s Georgia Tech game is reported as Georgia 42, Tech 42. Which would be a tie. Which would be, from the UGA perspective, wholly preferable to reality.
We all know Tech and Georgia can’t even agree on which side has won how many games in the bitter series: Georgia claims 59 victories against 37 losses and five ties; Tech claims 39 victories against 59 losses and five ties. Still, it’s not often we see a loss turn into a tie. (Although Georgia folks still insist a win became a loss in 1999 when Al Ford and his crew failed to see Jasper Sanks not fumble.)
So this was pretty odd, and definitely amusing. Even Claude Felton, Georgia’s Hall of Fame publicist, laughed off the typo. “I guess we felt like a tie was better than a loss,” he e-mailed. (Though he did note the score and the result — Tech won 45-42 — are correct in the all-important series standings.)
In 2004 Georgia had great fun with Reggie Ball’s fourth-down throwaway: “A math school and the players can’t count to four?” So consider this numerical payback: All the calculators on all the computers at Michael Adams’ university? They stop functioning above 42.

Mark, you’re working hard to fuel the UGA Hate you all at the AJC are trying to achieve. UGA had a better season than Tech did last year as evidenced by the better record, the better bowl game, the better bowl game result and the better final ranking. Yes, Tech snuck out with a 3 point win to win the game for the first time in 8 years; but, UGA had a better season. UGA returns deep lines on both sides of the ball, a strong group of linebackers, solid running backs and receivers, and a 5th year senior at QB whose only fault was having to play behind the #1 overall pick in the last NFL draft. All of these things are part of the reason why the national media, the national coaches and even Jeff Sagarin have UGA ranked above Tech this year, as well.

The tech win last year was a fluke—it will not happen again for at least 10 years! Richt’s bringing in so much talent, UGA will win the BCS title in the next 3 years–bank on it! This year, the Dawgs blow out Tech on the way to a 10 win season!! Tech–another minor bowl in December.

Oh btw, since all you techies love to talk about academics – remember the last time UGA or tech had to keep guys off bowl rosters for academic reasons? Yea. It amazes me the massive inferiority complex that comes out of the campus on North Ave. In fact North Ave. may be the center of the world for little man syndrome – I mean you guys are rocket scientists right? Yall should have some more pride than to throw trash on the field when Matt Ryan picks you apart and give out rings when you beat an instate rival for the first time in what 8, 9 years? Oh yea and there was that time when you reserved all the handicap parking spots on campus for your starting quarterback. Please Georgia Tech Men GROW SOME!

How could anyone who reads AJC online not now the score? Saint Simons post it on a story about the Atanta Spirit and nobody reads those stories. Nice job stirring the pot Mark. I have never seen a school take so much pride in one win. GT is a real program with football history why don’t they stop acting like they have the history of South Carolina!!!!!

Is it me or does UGA have an unbecoming knack for miscalculation? In the Florida series, they claim 47 wins (please correct me on this number if it’s inaccurate) while UF claims only claims 46 losses. As for the typing errors, they’re exactly that; errors. While I tend to disagree with Bradley on a lot of topics (i.e. his unmasked disdain for my Gators), I still usually enjoy his articles. I have to say, however, that we stand exactly one week before the opening game of the season and it would seem that a sports writer for a major news publication would have much more material on which to report. At any rate, I would like to chime in on a debate that I saw in yesterday’s sports section. Barnhart inadvertantly sparked an argument between UGA and Bama fans by having the cojones to put AJ Green and Julio Jones in the same class. Obviously, Dawg fans staunchly stood behind Green, while Bama fans did the same for Jones. The decisive factor here for me is the fact that AJ Green amassed more yardage and more TD catches in one fewer game than Jones (Bama played in the SEC title game). Advantage; Green. Please let me know what y’all think!!

This is embarrassing for Ga–the University of Football, but not surprising. Most of their players can barely read and couldn’t get admitted without special rules. They stick these players in some special elementary developmental studies classes to keep them eligible for a year or two. What a joke! At Tech–no special classes for the football players.

Listening to the banter between the bugs and the mangy puppies (am a Vol so neutral), I remember the standard joke about Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Royal, Tech fans know that we didn’t when anything last year, but when you get the UGA and FSU monkey off our backs in the first season with a new coach/system, there tends to be enthusiasm. It’s kind of like when you beat Florida in 1997 after 8 years and Tenn in 2001 after 9 years. You people should know how it feels to finally beat a rival. And JB, Tech players have the highest SAT score and highest GPA of any football players in the entire country. Look it up.

Yawn. If you’ve ever looked at a media guide before (which you probably haven’t), you’d know that those things are full of typos. All of them, not just UGA. Pick up Tech’s and I’m sure you’d find plenty there as well. Slow news day again there Mark?
