5 reasons UGA should be concerned about Joe Cox

Georgia's Joe Cox: A Saturday hero or just a workout wonder? (AJC photo by Brant Sanderlin)

1. He last threw a pass that mattered Sept. 30, 2006.

2. The Colorado comeback victory over which he presided in relief in 2006 came against a team of Buffaloes that finished 2-10. The victories were over Texas Tech and Iowa State.

3. He has no Knowshon Moreno to make play-action fakes work to maximum effect. Maybe Caleb King will assume such stature. Then again, maybe not.

4. He doesn’t throw the deep ball like Matthew Stafford, which is why he spent most of three seasons backing up Matthew Stafford. (The longest of Cox’s 33 collegiate completions — 34 yards.) And Georgia’s best player is A.J. Green, who does his best work on deep balls.

5. His first start of 2009 will come on the road, which is a major thing for a quarterback. As Mark Richt said, by way of explaining his program’s success in opposing venues: “It all starts with the quarterback.” And Cox has started one collegiate game.

(OK, OK! Before you get all riled up — too late, I fear — please be advised that this correspondent has compiled a companion list: “5 reasons Georgia shouldn’t be worried about Joe Cox.” On this issue I am, as they say, covering the waterfront.)

While personally I think the “hydrant humpers” thing was hilarious, you GT fans should really find something more constructive to do. Seriously, go check out Rivals.com or Scout.com. I’m not being sarcastic when I say; you guys are getting some really good recruits. You got some good things going on over there. I just think you should spend more time on GT blogs and less time on UGA blogs picking on us poor “dumb rednecks”.

Let`s be truthful here…the dawgs can`t be really good all the time..”.LAW OF AVG”
I hope they win 6 games….let the guys suprise us for once…it does not matter how many
good players we have…real ball players no its about chemistry…..scrubs can win if they
come together…

I don’t think anyone on the coaching staff really believe he can get it done…how, oh how does he sit all those years and not get ANY playing time…maybe he’s a good practice player and was exactly the kind of back-up QB CMR wanted…hope I’m proved wrong, but I think w/ Gray having such a good year, that Cox will give way to him sooner than later…I truly believe that this charade will go on until Murray plays some mop up roles and proves himself…this Murray kid looks to be the real deal…

To Mark Bradley…I never thought Stafford the best QB at UGA and now I don’t think Caleb King the best RB at UGA. Caleb King is the most over rated back in the SE and will be a big bust. Richard Samuels will be our starting RB and I think he is the best one in camp. With four backs we should redshirt Washaun Ealy and let him come on next yr.

Kiffin’s going to roll up uga—mark it down. The Vols will sack cox a bunch of times, and Eric Berry gets at least 2 picks. UT 30 UGA 19

I don’t think that was a shot, SthrnSrvy. Just trying to be honest.

Oh so now God Stafford actually sucked and you guys hated him all along. You will find out soon how good he really was and how much you miss him. Joe Cox is terrible.

<—————– Loyal Jacket fan and alumn!

The pups can beat Okie State if they jump on them fast and hard. Don’t let them get a second breath or it will be a long afternoon for the dawgs. I don’t know if Cox has what it takes, but he will be tested early, so the running game has good to make the defense adjust.

You see guys and girls, I love the game of college football. I rather see both teams (Ga Tech and Ga) were undefeated until November. As you know, I will be pulling for the Jackets!

Best of luck with Oklahoma State and “Ramblin Wreck!!”

People are gonna be surprised all right, except…. they will be all those hard-headed Dawg fans that actually think this is going to be another really good year (That is all you have, isn’t it? Really good years, I mean. Not like The Gators or The Tigers, who have REALLY GREAT YEARS, to include BCS National Championships). Anyway, I hope you like 8-4 or worse, because that is what you are starring at this season. Might as well start looking at 2010 for hope.
