I’ve picked Georgia to lose to Oklahoma State by 10 points. T. Boone Pickens, who has more money than Arthur Blank and I put together, likes Georgia to lose by 363 points.
When I read T. Boone’s “predicted” score of 387-24 in a post by Terrance Harris on Fanhouse — thanks to observant reader Dink for the tip — my first thought was that the oil wildcatter has obviously been scouting Willie Martinez. But after reading Dave Sittler’s original column in the Tulsa World, I’m not sure this was an actual prediction. Sittler used the word “requested,” which is a bit different.
Example: I would like to request that Mr. Pickens give me 165 million bucks, but I’m not predicting he will.
T. Boone is 81. (He and the fourth Mrs. Pickens traveled to Athens in 2007 when OSU lost to the Bulldogs. Both Boone — his pals drop the “T” — and Madeleine spent some time in the press box. They seemed nice.) Three years ago the oilman gave the OSU athletics department $165 million. The refurbished edifice Georgia will enter on Sept. 5 is, you’ll be shocked to discover, named Boone Pickens Stadium.
TBP is already on record as believing his Cowboys will enter their regular season finale against Oklahoma unbeaten. Sittler quotes Pickens thusly: “I know I stuck my neck out in that Tulsa World column when I said we’re going to be 11-0. And I still believe that’s what we’re going to be, but it’s going to be tough getting there. We have to beat Georgia first if we’re going to be 11-0, so I think we’re going to win that game.
You’ll also be shocked to know I have some experience being on the wrong end of a projected blowout. I picked the Rams to beat the Patriots 42-3 in Super Bowl XXXVI, and the Patriots not only beat my 39-point spread but won the doggone game. So now I’m thinking T. Boone might have jinxed his ‘Boys. And, since I’ve also picked OSU, jinxed me.
Great, I say. Just great. Give a guy $3 billion and he thinks he owns the world.
(Oh, and here’s another column on T. Boone, this by Jenni Carlson of the Oklahoman. If her name rings a bell, there’s a reason. Her column provoked the infamous Mike Gundy rant, for which we should all be eternally grateful.)

Yellow fuzz, use your mind to speak, not your Arse………Do think a coach who has averaged 10 wins a year for 8 years in the SEC for God’s sake is going to lose 6 games. In your dreams. Hell, UGA won 10 last year with one arm tied behind their back( 22 players hurt) Dawgs win 9 or 10 this year. also beat Tech.

If the Georgia team that played us would have shown up against Tech, they would still be picking up jacket pieces. I guess that’s where the phrase on any given Saturday comes from. Tech was soft and easy. I’ll take Georgia 8 of 10 playing Tech.

Georgia is a lot tougher than T. Boone thinks. The Dawgs are also tough on the road. Still I ask, why in the name of Enron did Damon Evans schedule a game in the middle of nowhere against a team like this? It’s a no-win situation. Can we get rid of this guy?

T Boone has passion for his OSU. I can relate, but if Joe Cox is up for the game it could be a close one. I do feel OSU may have the edge, but the quarterback play will be the outcome of who losers or wins. I think Oklahoma State’s QB is currently hurt or something????

This honestly will be Georgia best team ever under CMR beside maybe 02. Look at the Line, the depth, a 1st rounder at WR(Never had one) the speed on D, no arrest(a new focus) everything points that way. Probelem is this will be Floridas best team ever, Techs best in 20 yrs plus 2 other out of conference BCS teams, UT and Auburn will be better. Vandy and UK get better every year, and South Carolina gets up for us more than any other team. 8-4 is always possible in this league. When you have the talent UGA does so is 11-1. I say 10-2 with a win over Ohio in the citrus

OSU against good defenses last year:
Texas – 24
Texas Tech – 20
Oklahoma – 41
That last one is worrying, but the others show that the Cowboys can be contained. As long as we can move the ball (on a mediocre defense, let me add) I don’t foresee a blowout. Either UGA wins big or this will be a close one, but we won’t get blown out.

georgia will be 5-6 when Tech ends their pathetic season. The only bowl game you azzholes will see for a while is the g-day bowl in the spring. Losers.
Thanks for the laugh this morning, I needed it. The only thing that will be more hilarious is coming on here around 7:30pm on Sept. 5 and seeing Yellow Fuzz and Ramble On’s posts after we dismantle OSU. Tech will stall when all the coaches simplify the defense scheme to stop a very simple High school offense that a kid can operate. The defenses in college football a so complicated due to the spread and speed of the game, and when you need to take the breaks off and be disciplined it causes your players to actually play slower. That is a fact.

He has more money than Arthur and I (have)…….not More money the him and me (have)…..

PT,
gotta disagree with you on the GT offense. The offense will work at a high level this year IF Nesbitt can pass and keep defenses honest. Teams that can be disciplined and tackle effectively will stop a lot of the running game but CPJ is going to add more to the offense including faking the run-twice, and then throwing. Can Nesbitt pass?
The other key to their season is the defense. The D line is rebuilt and that is why he has changed the scheme to hide the shortcomings at DT and take advantage of the speed at LB and the secondary. I still believe the D will cost them a couple of games in shootouts like 38-35 and stuff like that.
That is why I am excited about UGA because we have depth on the OL for the 1st time in 7 years and depth and talent on the D line and at LB. Our secondary is young but extremely athletic and will get better as the year goes on.
Can’t wait for football

No Ramble, you are. You speak total jealously of the UGA program. I would not even open my mouth if all we could do is win 20% of the time against a rival. Dont be fooled by this offense. Coaching will adapt. Not taking anything away from you backs as they are NFL players. Tech is and always will be a 7-9 win program

T Boone Pickens is just another con man. Remember how when oil prices were high he was going to get us all switched to natural gas? Said he didn’t need anymore money he already had plenty, just doing it for the good of the country. Mysteriously enough, when oil prices went down where he wouldn’t make so much money, his natural gas idea slithered off into the night. Similar scenerio with his wind farms. He’s just another gas bag who likes to hear himself talk and get press.
As for OSU-Georgia, I don’t follow college football so I don’t really have a clue but I’m thinking no team could get in kickoffs and 3 and outs quick enough to win by 363 points.

RAMBLE ON – you talk a big game considering you’ve had one year of success. You sound like Bulldog fans after Donnan beat up Spurrier in 1997. They had anointed a new era. We know how that turned out. A statistical Techie geek such as yourself should be familiar with “sample size” and know that one good year isn’t enough to justify your trash talking, you imbecile. When UGA wins the next 7, you can have your moment in the sun again in 2016.

My first inclination is to look at the Texas Tech/Ole Miss Cotton Bowl. As a general rule whenever one of those June Jones triple veer, double jelly wingbone, shoot and poot offenses run up against a fundamentally sound defense, it gets exposed.
However, I just used the two words ‘fundamentally’ and ’sound’. While most discussion of this game is centered on Willie Martinez, I’m thinking the real key to GA winning centers on Cox not getting rattled first game and throwing more than one pick.
Also, unlike the Texas Tech and Hawaii offense of short, quick slant passes, OSU can really run the ball.

WM’s scheme worked for the first half. Then, the other team adjusted and we didn’t. Also, the offense in the 1st half scored points and in the 2nd half we fumbled on a KO and got away from abusing the GT secondary throwing the ball the way we did in the 1st half.
A lot of that is coaching. A lot of it was a lack of depth on the D line. The turnovers killed us too.

Bob, maybe I a student of history as well and realize that every year GT has beaten UGAg, they did it the next year too. For the last 30-40 years or so.
Maybe, I also realize we got the same team with more experience coming back, while ya’ll have lost 3 1st round draft picks, and a QB whose game experience is against a team that hadn’t won a game in like 17-18 previous tries (Colorado).

OSU can run the ball against teams who are suprised by a running play. Beating the option style teams all comes down to play by your defensive ends. Two years ago good ends for UGA and we beat fla. Last year no good ends and we lose to FLA and GT. If we have production at the defensive end position, we will beat OSU, FLA, GT and LSU.
