Citing sources, former colleague Chris Mortensen and Sal Paolatonio of ESPN.com reported Tuesday night that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could meet with Michael Vick as early as this week. And Goodell, ESPN also reported, could allow Vick to join a NFL team in training camp. From ESPN:
“Under a scenario involving conditional reinstatement, Goodell would reserve the right to extend or further define Vick’s indefinite suspension but allow him to attend training camp if he is signed with an NFL team, sources said. A conclusive reinstatement, or additional suspension, for the 2009 season would be expected before Sept. 1, the first mandatory date for roster cuts.”
The belief here has been that Goodell would allow Vick to play in the NFL at some point this season, but I didn’t think we’d see No. 7, who was released from federal custody only Monday, back under the league umbrella this summer. Assuming Goodell sees the desired “genuine remorse” from Vick in their meeting, a “conditional reinstatement” would indicate:
As mentioned in Monday’s post and subsequent comments, I think there’s a market for Vick. Not necessarily as a starting quarterback, but certainly as a backup and potentially as the in-vogue Wildcat quarterback. Several NFL clubs could use Vick – Vinny Iyer of Sporting News Today identified Miami, San Francisco, Jacksonville, Washington, Seattle and Oakland — but the entire NFL has been waiting to take its lead from Goodell. And the commissioner is apparently ready to move.

Pete Rose vs MV is not a good comparison. What PR did was to break the only rule in sports that really matters, and he paid for it with a lifetime ban. PR should never be allowed back, MV has done his time except for answering to the NFL Commish. MV might be looking at more time off for lying to him. If I were the Commish, he would have to pay a little more for lying to the boss.

Hey Miller, the gas chamber was long outlawed…….why are they still gassing dogs? It’s okay to kill dogs quick. That’s not a real death sentence? You are really sick. You are just mad. Vick won’t kill dogs anymore. But anytime you pass by a Humane society building you will always know some dog will be dying in there…..Let’s see a documentary on how many dogs lives are spared comming out of there……….rather than gassing em to death really quick. Think they still have some of them Vick Jersey’s I’d like to have a few, I bet NFL sales of his new Jersey will be through the roof!

Being a fan of Atlanta pro sports all my life (at since individual teams were organized) I have only one thing to convey to Michael Sick worshippers: Fu#k off! Drop dead. I hate all you bestards as much as I do that oxygen waste dog killer! May he scoop dog sh#t for minumum wage the remainer of his useless unproductive life. Amen.

ALL MIKE SICK SUPPORTERS CAN FU#K OFF! The worthless commode residue needs to scoop dog sh#t for minumum wage for the remainder of his useless unproductive life. His use of good oxygen is an affront to all decent folks! I have been truly angry at many Atlanta professional athletes over the years. Jeff George, DeAs#hole Hall, Chrissy Miller, Kenny Lofton and Kari Letemin to name a haldful. Chrissy Miller was the first Falcon QB I am aware of that gave home fans middle finger salute. My hatred has reached a new level for Michael Sick! Admitted quit on teammates, lied to everyone within earshot AND fired all Falcon fans bird! THREE STRIKES SCUMBAG! Should be banned from ALL sports! FOR LENGTH OF HIS POINTLESS LIFE PLUS A DAY!

Mark, can you get your IT folks to put in a spell check and grammar check feature so all of these people who are obviously better human beings than Michael Vick can have their thoughts expressed in a manner that is comprehensible?
Michael Vick did his time. All that matters to me is that Arthur Blank has stated Vick will never be an Atlanta Falcon again. If some other team wants to give him a chance, so be it.

I am sick of this Vick talk. He is not being trated unfairly. Most companies, legally, have a policy of refusing to hire convicted felons. I was convicted of “leaving the scene of an accident” in 2005. Hell, I didn’t think there was an accident until after the fact. I served my punishment. However, I am continually denied employment that I am more than qualified for because of it. Why is it fair for me but not for Vick? He was no better at his work than I was in mine. Is he a better person?. Not judging by his actions. Keep in mind, until the finger, I was a BIG MV fan. Only logical replies please. No racial BS.

If you were high on weed while awaiting sentencing on criminal charges, how many times were you high on a Sunday afternoon?
I hope he gets to play for another team so the apologists can see that when you are inconsistant it doesen’t matter what team you play for…you will be the problem.
He is a LOSER on and off of the field. Just like his brother.

I forgive because I’m a Christian. Only one person (plus God) knows what’s truly in Vick’s heart now, and that’s Michael Vick himself. He will show what’s in his heart only by getting an opportunity…so that’s what I hope he gets. If he blows it again, too bad, it’s a sad waste of amazing talent.

Sorry, but how can you “not know there was an accident” unless you were impaired in some way? Anyway, you sound bitter and employers aren’t keeping you away from work because that shouldn’t be a felony conviction…it should be a misdemeanor (if you were smart enough to get a lawyer with ANY skill it would have been reduced, either that or we’re not getting the whole story)…I think it’s time you look in the mirror. And also, you’re wrong about Vick not being better at what he does than you unless you can prove you’re one of the best 30 in the world at whatever it is you do. Talent has its privileges.

Bigeasy830-That’s what folks said last year, the Falcons will be 4-12. Matty Ice took us to the playoffs and acually won games in the 4th quaters of games Bears, Chargers, Rams. Mike Vick with the Falcons was terrible in the 4th quater.
Whatever team Vick ends up with will win 8 games max. The great Mike Vick never had back to back winning seasons either. What a Joke and so are his fans.

Once again love him or hate him they couldn’t stay away, another MV7 Article more views more money for ajc.com. At this point we would be shocked if he were not reinstated. The suspense is over.
Call me crazy but why do I think Al Davis will sign him to spite the whole world. raider nation. raider mystique.

I for one am hoping and believe this is going to be a great turn around story. ESPN reported that the amount of dog fighting in America has been cut in half because of the case. So you dog people should be happy.

I hope Goodell lets the man play…he’s served his debt to society. I hope he plays for an NFC South team so we’ll have a better chance of winning the division…can’t read defenses, turns the ball over, not a team player, etc. Not to mention, you can take the hood out of the ghetto but you can’t take the ghetto out of the hood….he’ll do something else stupid and destroy a franchise for a year or two like he did here. Oakland, Minnesota and Washington already have their “great black hope” QBs so there’s a good chance we might get him here in the NFC South….thank you Jesus….praise the Lord.

You are one sick puppy. Mocking the parents of a man who died in an accident with his best friend puts you on the lowest rung of humanity. The poorest excuse any criminal can possibly present is that other people have committed crimes. It’s a shame that some criminals escape justice, and it is no reason, NO REASON for leniency to plea that you didn’t have an original idea.
That being said, please reinstate this lowlife so that the speculation will die and the facts can manifest.
Anyone who blames the Falcons or Arthur Blank for Mr. Vick’s woes are idiots. Idiots! That’s like blaming Obama for invading Iraq. How is that possible?

Playing in the NFL isn’t a right; it’s a privilege. He’s served his debt to society, but does that really mean he should be instantly allowed back into the NFL? I think suspension until next year would be fair, and that’s IF Goodell thinks he’s truly remorseful. This is the NFL we’re talking about, not McDonalds. Have some standards people. And to all the “cast first stone” people: I can honestly say I’ve never killed a dog, so I’ll chuck stones if I want to.

Through the majority of the 80’s we had to bring up so much of our talent before they were ready for the bigs.
Then we had 3 of our 5 in the rotation set for the better part of a decade early on in the 90’s. There hasn’t been a whole lot of opportunity.

If the NFL commissioner allows Michael Sick to play then the jerk is as big a fool as the dog killing oxygen waste! Permanent suspension! Or, for all worshippers of this commode residue, simplified, it means, never to step onto an NFL field again in his lifetime. Simple enough? If the bestard DOES play in NFL I would savor career-ending injury! Something to do with legs or back (areas which incur heavy damage by dogs forced into bloody life or death battles during staged fights). The human filth flipped Falcon fans bird (despite revisionist history of that event by one of braindead bums who still worship loser). Hell jackass, I was there! I damn sure know what occurred. Peddle your bullsh#t elsewhere! Do I hate the (admitted) quitter? A lot more than Thrasher Kari Letemin. Followers of that team KNOW how deep that cuts! The appointed Falcon savior almost destroyed the team singlehandedly! Only, I must admit, a smart owner, stopped the bleeding! For the first time in a long time I am optimistic as a new Falcon season approaches. I could never make that statement with that drug addict in lineup. Fu#k the SOB and ALL his worshippers! Amen. My God, the ignorance! You buffoons just pick and choose what you want to be true. Here’s the truth, like it or not. Donte Stallworth didn’t kill anyone. He WAS guilty of drunk driving when a man committed SUICIDE by stepping in front of his car and, according to all eyewitnesses, there was NO WAY Stallworth or anyone else could have avoided him, even if the driver was a teetotalling baptist minister. So, I’m afraid that the contrived scenario you guys tried to play doesn’t have validity. Vick is still guilty of the most heinous crime. Even so, reinstate him and move on. His success or failure hinges on action, and delaying the inevitable only inflames the opinions of rabid morons. That’s you guys.

Mike Vick should never be allowed to play anything professional ever again. This should be treated a tragic event, and not just fixed with a rehabilitation at our expense. If he ever gets signs I will never support the team he plays for, I will loss all respect for the family that owns the team and if the state does not step in and have a say I will not be surprised. When will this stop? The steroids, Limo drivers killed, Dogs forced to eat other dogs so they know what it is to kill. If you feel jail fixes everything, you know what I am about to say.. Think twice before you say he should play, he learned his lesson (he is still in jail) nothing good can come from him playing.. Nothing can compare to the sound of the crowd. He should never be allowed to hear it the same way.. SORRY VICK YOU LOSE…
