Citing sources, former colleague Chris Mortensen and Sal Paolatonio of ESPN.com reported Tuesday night that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could meet with Michael Vick as early as this week. And Goodell, ESPN also reported, could allow Vick to join a NFL team in training camp. From ESPN:
“Under a scenario involving conditional reinstatement, Goodell would reserve the right to extend or further define Vick’s indefinite suspension but allow him to attend training camp if he is signed with an NFL team, sources said. A conclusive reinstatement, or additional suspension, for the 2009 season would be expected before Sept. 1, the first mandatory date for roster cuts.”
The belief here has been that Goodell would allow Vick to play in the NFL at some point this season, but I didn’t think we’d see No. 7, who was released from federal custody only Monday, back under the league umbrella this summer. Assuming Goodell sees the desired “genuine remorse” from Vick in their meeting, a “conditional reinstatement” would indicate:
As mentioned in Monday’s post and subsequent comments, I think there’s a market for Vick. Not necessarily as a starting quarterback, but certainly as a backup and potentially as the in-vogue Wildcat quarterback. Several NFL clubs could use Vick – Vinny Iyer of Sporting News Today identified Miami, San Francisco, Jacksonville, Washington, Seattle and Oakland — but the entire NFL has been waiting to take its lead from Goodell. And the commissioner is apparently ready to move.

I am not making excuses but the fact is when did you ever hear about anybody ever getting arrested for dog fighting on tv, newspapers, or internet till Mike Vick? You think MIke Vick invented Dog Fighting- Hell NO- You can’t tell me that the feds, cops, etc turn their back at pursuing dog fighters? IF they were pursuing dog fighters or if it was a popular industry to pursue before Vick you would have heard of people getting busted way more than you hear now-
Hey I am a dog lover- never would I agree with dog fighting but its not like the feds, or cops ever were really attempting to put an end to it- even PETA admitted such-
Hey I am glad they are

Vick should not be allowed back in the NFL – ever. Slim like him never change – it may not be dog fighting next time, but there will be something else. He’s not a smart man. Coach Reeves had to dumb down the offense so Vick could actually call a play in the huddle. As noted by others, he couldn’t read defenses – he’s just plain stupid, but yeah, he can run.
I will join many others in boycotting any team that takes Vick. People will never let him live it down. Given the debt he’s paid to society he does have the right to make a living, but he doesn’t have a right to work in a sports league that young people look to for role models. Allowing him to return to the NFL simply tells young people that’s it’s okay to commit heinous crimes, that is, as long as you can run fast, albeit “running while stupid.”

All of you people out there always want to bash Mike for what he did and I agree it was bad but the man gave up 130 million $ his freedom and all of his voting rights but on the other hand President Bush stole billions, all of our freedoms and rights and is getting our young soldiers killed every day but most of you so called americans consider him our hero. I guess a dog (which I own a pit bull that I named Michael Vick)is more important than the way we treat humans. Like Public Enemy said “Don’t believe the hype”

Mark- You heard it hear first- Michael Vick signs with Redskins- #7 starts out third string to show everybody he has to fight his way into the lineup- learns playbook- Third week of the season enters Redskin stadium to hear chants of ” We want Vick-
Second quarter- Here comes Michael Vick in the spread formation- Michael Vick breaks a tackle and goes for 40 down to the 18 yard line-
“Oh way it looks like they are going to Keep Vick in for first down-
Then, Michael Vick is the starting QB for the rest of season for Washingto Redskins- Thats how predictable this is- I wish I could legally bet on this with Vegas-
Is Vegas taking bets on which team Vick will go to? If so, this is the easiest money of the year-
Let’s see- You don’t think Deangelo is lobbying for him right now? along with other teams- seems like Deangelo has a little pull with the multi year contract- Lets see Mike Vick’s family and house is right down the street- Only environment that is right for him to be in- In my opinion-
He has the owner that has the resources to hype it up- with the state capital in the background and his VT fan base in the back yard?
Oh and what about the ratings for the NFL? You don’t think there will be more buzz surrounding this-
DC is the only city that can handle this- and what a better place for Mike Vick to get his ECONOMIC STIMULUS??? RIGHT FROM THE CAPITAL!!

It probably will take an owner who doesn’t care overmuch about PR to take a flier on Vick: Dan Snyder would be one; Al Davis would be another.
And the boos will only be a problem on the road. I’d imagine the fans — well, most of them — in his new home city will be happy to have him.

In my personal opinion I can’t think of a better PR move for the NFL- The NFL would set the all time ratings record this year if Mike Vick comes back- There would be more cameras and attention to the NFL than anytime in history-
You would have people watching football that don’t even watch it just to see how Michael Vick does or to root for him to fail.
How could you not see the power in that? Even the visiting teams would profit immensely from Vick visiting- Every game would be sold out or there would be more pro/anti Vick merchandise sold-
People would come to games just to rag Michael Vick-
Sounds pretty exciting to me- I am ready for football season already

Did any of you read the 74 page indictment? Very sick reading. Michael Vick was never charged with RICO. He absolutely should have been. However, RICO carries a MANDATORY 5 year sentence. When you bankroll a felony conspiracy across state lines you are guilty of RICO,. Are you really saying he wasn’t? No, Vick has not even begun to pay society for his sick sick crimes. And I believe Peta is correct. He is a sociopath.

I for one truly hope Vick would be picked up by an NFC south team. The Falcons sure could use the fumble recoveries.
And some of you are saying “Vick’s back” hears a hint…..NO TEAM HAS OFFERED HIM A JOB!!!! But by all means if someone does please bring him to the NFC south. That alone will help the Falcons winning percentage.

Well, you only have to see his name ‘mullet13′ to realize where he comes from and what he represents… logic is a foreign language..!!!
I really think that all of the hype from the whiners will die quick once he is back in uniform… I think the owner’s are more cautious of RG than of PETA or any other organization… as to Vick, it is certainly easy for people to judge him on a negative basis, but you really have to look at the substance of the people doing that… judgement in itself defines the person doing the judging…!!!

Well I refuse to feel sorry for him. He made his bed now sleep in it. Him and his brother could have been like the Manning brothers, but they made poor and stupid decisions. Plus I heard he is really not a friendly person if you run into him in public, this is typical of most athletes that is why I don’t really care about any of them.

Vick, so sad that he was so great, so talented, so supremely athletic, why oh why did he have to be so freaking dumb?
Ode to ignorance: For all the things Vick gave Atlanta, Matt Ryan will surpass it all with much less fanfare, less attention, far better statistics and never ever will Matt embarass the city and the fans like Vick did. Michael Vick, what a wasted life!

I think RG will let Vick play for the 2009 season. Vick has paid his debt to society….and for that matter the NFL. Vick was not the only NFL player involved in dog fighting so the fact that he took the blame for his fellow collegues says alot. He could have exposed others in the NFL and caused chaos for the entire league. Therefore, since we all know this…….they will let him play!

Wonder how many people who think he should never play again are okay with abortions. I just spoke with a co-worker who was adamant that he should never even get to look at a statdium again. That nothing he has lost makes up for what he did. That animals are defenseless and it’s up to us to take care of them. Yet, she just had an abortion about 6 months ago. WTF?

There is no real and valid reason to not let him play…. he, and he alone, will determine his level of ability and success and how to get there.. and, if he is determined to get there, he will..there is no reason that he should not be allowed to succeed if that is the path for him.. no one has the right to wish him otherwise… again, we have politics getting in the way of life; sad how it comes into play at all levels of life.. there is really no valid argument against letting him play again.. you always have whiners regardless of the situation and most of them are jealous wannabes.. it takes a certain breed of people to want others to fail, no matter their argument.. those are the ones that should not be allowed in the stadium…
