I believe Carroll, who is no doubt successful, is not taken to task enough for being the only fish in one of the three largest recruiting ponds. Imagine the talent avaialble to any one of the Florida schools without the other in-state competitors, and other SEC/ACC schools picking off FL talent. Imagine UT without Oklahoma, LSU, and the rest of the Big 12 poaching Texas HS athletes. That's Pete's situation!

Carroll has enjoyed a veritable recruiting monopoly throuout CA and most all of the west coast, in addition to being able to cherry-pick several top candidates from other parts of the country each year (see JD Booty, Keith Rivers, Joe McKnight, Dwain Jarett, M Mustain and many others). By all accounts his 2's and 3's might be good enough to finish in the top 5 of the Pac 10 each year. Yet, despite his undisputed embarrassment of riches in talent, he's only cashed-in once. Tressel and Stoops get ram-rodded for their shortcomings in big-games, but at least they are making to the big-games, and they are doing so with less talent. To whom much is given much is expected.

Bob Stoops: 6 Big 12 titles, 1 nat'l championship, 2 Heisman winners, and 6-4 vs. Mack Brown

Mack Brown: 1 Big 12 title, 1 nat'l championship, 0 Heisman winnders, 4-6 vs. Stoops.

Only a true idiot living completely outside of reality could put Brown 8 spots ahead of Stoops. Congrats on being a true idiot.

You have Mack Brown 8 spots higher than Bob Stoops. Let's see, Bob has won 6 Big XII titles, Mack 1. Bob leads his series with Mack, 6-4. The state of Texas turned out 365 kids who signed FBS scholarships last February. Oklahoma had nine. Those things considered and you think Mack is better than Stoops. Bobby Knight had it right about sportswriters.

I believe you left one coach off your Top 10 who belongs on there, Bill Snyder at Kansas State. He is 2-0 against Pete Carroll. His team demolished what the media was calling the Greatest Team of All Time, Stoops Sooners 35-7 in the 2003 Big 12 Championship Game. They were ranked Number 1 going into the Big 12 Championship Game in 1998 and lost in double OT due to a fumble. And, he did all that at the school that was widely considered the worst in college football history.

Bradley

You need to get some fresh air or at least put out what ever you have been smoking. Beamer top five?? 66% winning record in 2 very weak confs??. 6-25 against top 10 teams, 1 win over a top 5 team in 20 years??

Trade school junkie

Junkie sounds about right. You must be on something. Rodriguez took WVU to the mountain top. More like the top of a mole hill. He avg. 5 losses a year until Mia and V Tech left. Then who was left to play. It's called the Big Least for a reason.

Now that he is in somewhat of a decent conf. he will fall on his face.

Frank Beamer has beaten 1 top five team in all his years at Va Tech. He is 6-25 against top 10 teams. He's coached in an awful Big Least conf. and an equally poor ACC and has a 66% winning record. I hardly think that qualifies as top 20 coach let alone top 10. I don't know why every sucks up to him. He's vastly overrated

If Butch Davis makes UNC a big winner, will he be credited as being a very good coach ? He didn't do bad at Miami.

i really enjoy reading what all the holier than thou SEC fans have to say. i'm a UGA grad but i get sick of every SEC fan thinking that Ohio State sucks and that no other conference is worth a damn. Yes the SEC has had a great run...but you sound like you really do reproduce with your kin when you try to suggest that Ohio State or Penn State can't compete or that Oklahoma and Texass really aren't that good. Quit being so damn biased about everything...and if you are just shut up. It's old.

I was hollering for CMR & UGA to hire John Chavis as DC long before Les Miles hired him. However, a lot of the defense commitments say that they really like CWM. Go figure.
