I asked for help, and you kind folks obliged. I asked for your Tweets via Twitter describing your Peachtree Road Race experiences, and you Tweeted like little birdies. I thank you for your help, and for cheering me up on a day when I was somewhat angered by the cheating I saw ongoing. And now to your more cheery submissions:

Valtool, July 3, 12:50 p.m.: I earned 7 Ptree shirts btw 96 and 07. Sitting this one out w/diabetic foot. Reporting live from Kennesaw.

richdanielson, July 3, 12:51: At Expo. (He attached a photo, which is below.)

BluelandOutsidr: July 3, 1:10: Ill be glad to provide updates … from my couch … :)

eltiar, July 3, 4:39: First run in 9 mos. was Thurs … it was 45 min. and followed with yoga … I’m 21, so I think my body will hold for Peachtree.

LBMedia, July 3, 8:15: Hey mark I will be tweeting during the Peachtree tomorrow! Not while I am running but it’s my first time so I am excited!

BernieDawg, July 4, 7:18 a.m.: Pinning my PeachtreeRR # on while waiting on MARTA. Feels like July 4th.

kwood578, July 4, 7:44: MARTA parking at North Springs was great. Fast and organized. The trains however are crowded and not moving.

KyleSnipes, July 4, 8:32: Attacking cardiac hill with 35-wk pregnant wife and her 37-wk pregnant friend. Pray no one goes into labor. We’re walking. (Editors’ note: I saw Mr. and Mrs. Snipes, and Mrs. Snipes — Melissa — is exorbitantly expectant.)

BernieDawg, July 4, 8:34: Wonder if @markbradleyajc has puked yet? (Er, I actually didn’t run. But I have been known to upchuck.)

davidcsawyer, July 4, 8:47: Racers at Colony Square. (He sent a picture, which I’ve used below.)

BernieDawg, July 4, 8:49: FWIW, there are just as many slackers (3456&7s) back here at the back end. (I had inquired via Twitter if anyone else was upset about the course-jumpers and start-flouters. BernieDawg also included a photo, which is at the bottom.)

davidcsawyer, July 4, 8:58: “Lawmen” jamming out for the runners. (He was referring to a band, of which he also took a photo.)

KyleSnipes, July 4, 9:30: Just finished without incident. No labor. (Whew.)

davidcsawyer, July 4, 9:50: Did these guys actually run? (He was referring to the foursome in grass skirts pictured above, and I believe they did. Because I saw them.)

davidcsawyer, July 4, 10:28: Unbelievable amount of people! (In Piedmont Park. Photo enclosed.)

KyleSnipes, July 4, 10:42: Cutters didn’t bother us as much as runners who ran up our back on the right and then snapped at us for walking.

sethdmorris, July 4, 12:31: Enjoyed the crowd! Agree with you about the cheaters. What a shame. Saw 9 (race numbers in the 90,000s) runners with the 1s and 2s. Too bad.

rupakg, July 4, 12:48: Just ran my first AJC Peachtree 10K (6.2 miles) Road race. I clocked 1hr, 10 min. I am so proud I completed it.

And I’m proud of you folks, too, and I’m again in your debt. Thanks for all submissions, and thanks for spending your holiday — via Twitter — with me. We’ll do this again sometime. Maybe on July 4, 2010.

I just finished my 30th Peachtree. I saw a young lady at the 5 mile mark without a hint of sweat getting a cup of water; it took everything in my soul not to ask her…when did you start running? I realize after 3 decades of running this is now an event not a Race but try STARTING WITH EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!

Absolutely agree re: the cheating. The individual consciences of the guilty parties should surface and state what should have been obvious from the outset. And if it doesn’t work that way then being guilty of cheating in the Peachtree Road Race is just the tip of a mammoth iceberg.
Even more irritating to this participant is the practice of the few “elite” (read: faster) runners that show the new T-shirts to all of the people still working towards their goal of being surprised when they open their own hard-earned goodie bag.
Those vents having been released and dissipated, I still look forward to next year already when my son and other friends and I will celebrate our collective approximately 80 years of the Peachtree.

Thank you soooooo! much for you column regarding the cheaters. It is really disheartening when you have trained so hard for this race.
Who do they think they are fooling except themselves.
Why doesn’t the Atlanta Track Club just sell shirts saying “I just wanted the shirt I cant’t really walk or run a 10K!”
