The famous usher Walter Banks — also the nicest man who has ever lived — posed this question last night at the ol’ ballyard: If you were an NFL team and all your quarterbacks were hurt, would you sign Brett Favre, Vince Young or Michael Vick?
Me, I’d sign Vick. (Let’s assume for the sake of today’s exercise he’s cleared to play.) He has done more in the NFL than Young. (Speaking of whom, he’s still under contract with the Titans, but let’s pretend he isn’t.) I remain intrigued by Young, but I think Vick’s the better player.
And Favre? I feel about him the way Kate apparently feels about Jon. (Pop culture reference!) I’d rather go without a quarterback — think Tom Matte in that 1965 playoff game with the plays on his wristband — than have that dithering prima donna on my roster.
But you are, as ever, free to disagree. Here’s a poll, and the comment section is below. Have at it. And let’s try to keep this on a football level. Just this once.
The AJC sports columnist is a blogging fool. But you knew that already

Reality Time, its not an opinion that Vick did not commit perjury, that’s a FACT. Apparently you think that because you comment on a blog that somehow your comment is immune to being a lie. You LIED. Vick did not commit “perjury” PERIOD. Its not an opinion that Roddy White credits his development to Petrino and that he decided to get serious about his career, its what HE SAID in interviews on espn and aol sports. So again, your opinion is just a flat out LIE unless you think what came out of Roddy’s own mouth is just his “opinion” about what HE did. Dont let your hate get in the way of your “opinion”..mmmkay?

SID – I understand your point. On the blog you have racist who will call any black athelete that gets a parking ticket a thug. Someone on this blog actually called Vince Young a thug. I can’t recall Vince in any trouble. Someone needs to look this up as the definition does not apply to Vick either.
Then you have the hypersensitive people that everything boils down to race, then you have the hypocrits who act like they done nothing.
I have to disagree a bit on your assesment of vick as a QB for now. The situation he was in was not the best to gauge if he can actually be an elite QB. He was decent under Reeves but then Mora was hired with that experimental offense and there have been quite a few drops even by Roddy White.
He has the tools and remember he was rushed into his role with limited college experience. Some people state he is too short but Drew Brees is about the same height so it can be done.
So my opinion on Vick is he is the most exciting QB to play the game but as an elite QB, the jury is still out until he is put into a real system.

Michael Vick: Been to the NFC and college football title games. Brett Favre: Won one Super Bowl and went to another. Vince Young: Won BCS title game and was 8-5 as an NFL rookie starter.
And you’d rather have Ryan Leaf?

Vick was never a team player and was more concerned with putting on a one man show. Young has too much emotional baggage. If I felt my team could win it all immediately with an experienced quarterback then there’s no competition. Favre. This one’s not even close enough to debate. Move along, folks.

It’s entertainment time, so it has to be Vick. Don’t know how long it will take for him to play himself into some kind of shape, probably 4 games. The biggest football related problem he was starting to have was the “spy” the defense was putting on him….couldn’t do those fancy runs much after that.
But he would be a lot more fun to watch than the other two. Watch those TV ratings go up!

I still can’t figure out why the AJC sports writers can’t come up with some original articles. Everyday it’s the same old stuff rehashed over and over again which just gives the SAME PEOPLE an opportunity to make the SAME COMMENTS.
Who cares who might take any of the three named in the article that generated the question?????
Mark Bradley – If it is your intent to incite a verbal riot, by coming up with this stuff, then you’ve succeeded.

AFTER THAT 2002 PLAYOFF GAME IN GREENBAY, A 21-YEAR OLD MOBILE QUARTERBACK WENT TO GREENBAY, AS A MAJOR UNDER-DOG. WHAT DID HE DO? NOTHING BUT DO WHAT STEVE YOUNG, PEYTON MANNING, TOM BRADY, ELI MANNING, DREW BREES, ETC COULD DO – BE THE FIRST QUARTERBACK TO BEAT THE LENGENDARY BRETT FAVRE IN GREEN BAY.
HOW COULD THIS BE? ALL I HEAR IS HE IS NOT GOOD. HOW COULD HE BEAT THE LENGENDARY BRETT FAVRE. I MEAN HE CAN’T READ DEFENSES. HE IS NOT A DROP BACK PASSER. HE IS NOT INTELLIGENT. HOW COULD HE OUT THINK A DROP BACK PASSER.
I HAVE 130 MILLION DOLLARS REASONS WHY. THAT WAS ACTUALLY A BARGAIN, CONSIDERING HE WON THAT GAME ALL BY HIMSELF. A 21-YEAR OLD KID STICKING IT TO THE LENGENDARY BRETT FAVRE.
I BETCHA BRETT FAVRE IS HIS BIGGEST FAN

For those who are using number of Pro Bowls as a litmus test….it’s a popularity contest (name recognition and PR) and never has solely been based on a player’s abilities and/or stats. Annually there are lots of players that are more deserving than the ones that get to make the trip to Hawaii.

“Vicktory To The Underdog” takes an in depth look at world renowned tattoo artist “Brandon Bond” and his dog rescue efforts – particularly rescuing the infamous Michael Vick fighting dogs.
Rather than focusing on the dog fighting problem, the movie sheds light on solutions leading to “Vicktory” for all the underdogs in the movie – tattoo people, pitbulls, parolees and all the other people in this world that society has turned their back on through ignorance and racism.
The movie also examines the life of Brandon Bond and his struggle with balancing fame, fortune and the Rock-N-Roll tattoo lifestyle with a more fulfilling life that focuses on the betterment of both animals and society as a whole.
Featuring celebrities like Debbie and Danny Trejo, Michael Berryman, Pixie Acia and Donal Logue, the movie takes you on an incredible journey you will never forget!
Proceeds for this film will be going to Villa Lobos Pitbull Rescue. http://www.vrcpitbull.com

June 11 (Bloomberg) — Venture capitalist and United Football League founder Bill Hambrecht said Michael Vick deserves a second chance to play football after serving jail time on charges related to dogfighting.
Calling Vick “probably the best football player in America,” the chairman of the securities firm W.R. Hambrecht & Co. said fans want to watch the suspended former National Football League quarterback and that Vick could have a place in the new league, which is scheduled to begin playing in October.
“He has paid his penalty,” Hambrecht, 73, said in a television interview. “What we did is we went out to our fan base and said ‘what do you think?’ And on our Web site, people want to see him. People believe he deserves a second chance.”
He said Vick “took his punishment like a man.” The 28-year-old former Pro Bowl quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons is under home confinement as he completes a 23-month sentence for helping to run a dogfighting ring.
“I respect the guy, I really do,” Hambrecht said in a separate interview. “This is a guy brought up in the neighborhood, and you know, you always lie to the cops. You know how that works. When confronted with it, he took his penalty.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell indefinitely suspended Vick from the league in August 2007 and said he would review Vick’s status after the legal process concluded.
Hambrecht was an early investor and underwriter for companies such as Apple Inc. and Genentech Inc. He later formed W.R. Hambrecht, which has co-managed auction-style initial public offerings including those for Google Inc. and Morningstar Inc.

Of the 3 listed I would have to pick Vick. While I’m not thrilled with his overall QB skills, I believe he can be used in other areas of the field (e.g. slot receiver). I would really want to see what his foot speed is like though. Without it, his value greatly diminishes.
Farve, one of the toughest to ever play the game, is just too old. The good games he has left in him are far overshadowed by the bad ones he’ll play.
I haven’t seen enough of Vince Young. No doubt he has talent, but sometimes his decision making (on & off the field) is questionable.

I would have to go with Mike Vike…… I mean come on now, the guy is an all around player. He not only can throw the ball, he can run the ball as well as he isn’t afraid of getting hit. Plus, he took a team that hasn’t seen a SuperBowl ever to their very first one. Even though they lost, he still took them to the first SuperBowl ever. Mike deserves a second chance and I wished that Atlanta wouldn’t have had dropped him. He could have been a second string and worked his way back up, but I just wished that Atlanta wouldn’t have dropped him.

He’s been released. His hit on the Falcons salary cap ends this season. This nightmare is over. Which QB amoung the 3 would I take? None. I’d go to my taxi squad or even better I would use the player on my roster that understands my offense. Every team in the league has one that can step in if a situation like that ever happens. My team wants no part of any of those three.

I really can’t believe the Falcons released Vick! Bad move. He owes the Falcons money. His rights belonged to the Falcons for several more years. They don’t have to pay him as long as he’s under indefinate suspension by the NFL and don’t have to carry him on the active roster. Just as soon as the league reinstates him, if they do, another team WILL take the chance and sign him for his athletic ability. Vick still had some value to the Falcons, even if it’s just making sure he sits and can’t go play for a competitor in the same division or conference. If reinstated, you know we could have at least gotten some draft picks for him. If they wanted to be vindictive, the Falcons could sit on him and make sure by the time that contract period was over Vick never stepped foot on an NFL field. He could have been inactive for years, thereby being worthless to another team.
The Falcons gave this guy boucous millions and in return MV7 (a.k.a Ron Mexico) made Mr. Blank look like a fool in front of the entire nation more than once. He constantly lied to the man who was signing his checks, spoon feeding him, pushing him around in a wheelchair and playing daddy to him, smiling all the while as he smoked blunts, spread social diseases, fathered illegitimate children, blew millions on his posse and ‘raised dogs’. At the moment, it was costing the Falcons nothing to sit on on him. They should have done it until he was reinstated by the NFL.

Of the 3 losers Vince has the most up-side. Favre had a great career but needs to retire. Vick is an physical talent but is inconsistent and brings too much baggage. Vince can be developed to deliver on the promise he had as a rookie.

Vick deserves to play again and should be able to live a life based on the constitution. He paid his dues and is a human being. I am sick of the bashing of Vick.Give peace a chance and that is fair.He didn’t kill a human being.Forgiveness is the ultimate word. Finally. we must learn to love everybody.

SENIOR dog lover! If this economy continues to suffer at the expense of hateful minded folks like you, maybe your dog will be eating you for dinner, or maybe you will be eating your dog for lunch. REMEMBER that many of our soldiers who were at war fighting for your right to own a dog ate horse meat, rats, and anything else that could find in order to survive.Be very careful and mindful of the GREAT DEPRESSION. You might have your dog for breakfast!
I am so happy that MIKE can get on with his life and football career. PLEASE move on with your life. If you do not want to watch him play, change the channel, because there will be many people around the world who will tune in to watch an athlete play the game. MOVE ON HATER!

I have a dog and I love animals but he has not killed a human being and it seems as if we value animal life more than we do human life. You without sin cast the first stone. Everyone is worried about the fact that Micheal Vick was engaged in harming dogs but it’s okay to allow someone who has killed a human to come back to the NFL. So what makes a dog better than a human. For all of you that don’t like Vick or think he should return will be the very ones cheering when he takes that NFL team to the playoffs and his team wins!!!! So go read your bible and know that the best worst of men were all given life again. We all fall down but we can get back up again.. So don’t be surprised when Vick is the shining QB again.

It is amazing how many people hate Mike Vick, because he participated in dog fighting, lied to his boss, reportedly gave someone an STD. How many of us with time, money and youth would be the shining example of morality that seems to be expected of this young footbal player. We should keep in mind that these are athletes, entertainers, not priests or policemen, or even politicians. Michael Vick was probably the best thing to happen to Falcons football in the history of the franchise. And not because he was an elite quarterback. Because people watched him.
He put behinds in the seats and provided an extraordinary show when he was on the field. He has paid his debt. unless he is currently in trouble, i believe he should be allowed to play. Currently, what he is able to do on the field should be the only question. he has already been punished for his actions. if he is denied, the nfl will be ignoring a great asset to the sport.
