The famous usher Walter Banks — also the nicest man who has ever lived — posed this question last night at the ol’ ballyard: If you were an NFL team and all your quarterbacks were hurt, would you sign Brett Favre, Vince Young or Michael Vick?
Me, I’d sign Vick. (Let’s assume for the sake of today’s exercise he’s cleared to play.) He has done more in the NFL than Young. (Speaking of whom, he’s still under contract with the Titans, but let’s pretend he isn’t.) I remain intrigued by Young, but I think Vick’s the better player.
And Favre? I feel about him the way Kate apparently feels about Jon. (Pop culture reference!) I’d rather go without a quarterback — think Tom Matte in that 1965 playoff game with the plays on his wristband — than have that dithering prima donna on my roster.
But you are, as ever, free to disagree. Here’s a poll, and the comment section is below. Have at it. And let’s try to keep this on a football level. Just this once.
The AJC sports columnist is a blogging fool. But you knew that already

db. .funny stuff. Isn’t it interesting that Young, who wasn’t sure a year or so ago if he wanted to play anymore, is backup to Kerry Collins, who left the game several years ago because he didn’t want to play anymore? What would happen if they both woke up one morning and just quit? Yeah, I’ll go with Young.

This sounds like the beginning of a joke- ….so Michael Vick, Brett Farve and Vince Young walk into a bar……..
Mark, you’re wittier than I am so please finish it. This would be a much better exercise. Who can come up with the best joke….GO!

Vick and sign Randy Johnson as his back up. I think Johnson is in a half way house in nc. The Atlanta Falcons “Quaterbacks Hall of Shame”, after all this is today’s exercise. Mark, now can we all go outside and play fetch, so as you can get back to working on tommorow’s exercise.

If you want your team to have any kind of credibility you don’t take any of those three QB options. There are far better choices in the 2010 draft.

I’m sorry worshippers but Vick will not be playing this year in the NFL.
(1) he is suspended indefinitely
(2) the Falcons hold his contractural rights
(3) he is fat and terribly out of shape
(4) he will violate his parole(he’s still smoking ‘dro)

Looks like Vick kept the lights on in the Georgia Dome also. The Falcons Marketing Dept. has been putting in overtime the last 2 years. Didn’t you notice how none of the sports channels are using the “what kind of shape will he be in” talking point anymore? Favre’s obviously had by far the best career of the three, but his arm is no longer what it used to be, and any team that thinks he can lead them to a Super Bowl at this point is kidding themselves. If this was 2002 he would be the answer, but it’s 2009, and he’s not.
Young has half the talent of Vick in every area except for height, has proven that he can’t deal with adversity, and like Bradley said hasn’t accomplished much in this league.
Of the three Vick is easily the best option at this point.

Vick Supporter 2, just find a new blog and a new team. Wait until MV7 is somewhere, and become a fan of that team. If you can’t get behind the Falcons and Matt Ryan, then just wait until MV7 plays somewhere. You know, when Vick was drafted, and a lot of my friends complained that the Falcons were making a mistake, I told them to either be Falcon fans or don’t be. Cheer for them or find a new team. I make the same invitation to you.
By the way, what did Matt Ryan ever do to you? Did your girl tell you she thought he was hot or something. All he did as a rookie was take a team with the 24 ranked defense the playoffs (Leaf NEVER did that in at least 5 years in the league). Give him a chance before you crucify the guy for not winning a playoff game. Like I said earlier, Manning didn’t win a playoff game until his 6th season, and he had already won an MVP by then.

Of the 3 the only one I wouldn’t have on my team is Vick. He is a terrible NFL quarterback. He has no touch and couldn’t hit an open receiver with a catchable ball from 2 yards away. When was the last time a running quarterback won the Super Bowl? The only one who might be in that category would be Steve Young, and he was basically a drop back passer who could use his legs to avoid the rush. ALL Vick can do is run, and you don’t win Super Bowls with 3 running backs and NO quarterback. With Vick in the game you’re 2 wide receivers become non-factors unless they are great blockers. That’s why defenses could load the box because they weren’t worried about him completing many passes. A running quarterback can be a superstar in high school and college, but that doesn’t cut it in the pros.

Out of all thre of them Mike is the one I would not chose. I like Vince Young due to the fact he has a better up side than either Brett or Mike. Don’t get me wrong I have watched Vick play here in Atlanta for his whole time and he was exciting. But he will never get you to the promise land. But I think Vince has more to offer, and to be honest Brett needs to just stay retired.

If Mike Vick was such a terrible QB…why was he voted to 3 probowls after only starting 4 full seasons? Just because he doesn’t “look” the way you would like him to look, doesn’t mean you can hide behind your monitor and LIE like a rug!!
Now try to convince everyone with an IQ over 50 how Probowls don’t really matter and its only a “popularity contest”(for those who look like Mike Vick)……we’re waiting…..come on buddy you can do it! Maybe one of your tea baggin friends will help ya.

What part of “he’s suspended indefinetly” do y’all not understand? The Commish will not fall for Vicks lies again. Suspension might be lifted for 2010, but Vick will screw up again. VA Tech shape… right. He’s smoking the ‘dro and eating Cheetos and Toaster Strudels(with extra icing). Like I said earlier he is “too fat” to perform. Parole violation coming up as soon as he sees his parole officer.

Hey Titletown USA, would you be from Valdosta, Ga.? I am thats why I asked. Now I would take Vince Young slightly over Mike Vick but then again Vick has pro bowl appearances so it would be Vick. Farve is overhyped and has been the last six years, needs to retire. It’s amazing how people are so negative against Vick and the dog situation when hockey players have killed the person riding in their car because he was drunk driving right here in Atlanta. It amazes me how Vick is continually being thrown under the bus but a hockey player can kill his friend and people didnt uproar as extreme. But I take Vick.

Pop: Would you get off that people don’t like Vick because of the way he “looks.” If that were the case, 85% of the NFL players would disliked because of the way they “look”. No, they don’t look like me, number 1 because I’m a woman. Get over the race thing every time something negative is said about him, I for one just don’t like the guy. I don’t think think he worked hard enough and was not a team player, thought the same thing about Jeff George, so its not a race thing. If you are p.o’d because Vick isn’t playing, that’s fine, just don’t blame other people for it, blame Vick. Vick Supporter 2: You don’t known squat about what Matt Ryan will or won’t do in the NFL. Why do you hate him, because he doesn’t look like you? He had nothing to do with Vick’s situation so get over it and give the guy a chance. If he sucks in the future, fine, but he did fine last year so get off it.

3rd choice – Vince Young. Where is his head?
2nd choice – would be Favre because he can manage a game but his INT’s seem to be a problem. I do not think he has realized that his arm strength is not what it used to be.
1st choice – Vick. The strongest arm of the three. Defenses must change to compensate for his running.
As far as the lie he told. Everyone on this blog has told a lie.
That’s like drinking a beer with some friends on your porch and the police drive bye and ask are you guys drinking alcohol in public.
A) Say yes = go to jail
b) Say no = Police come to investigate and you go to Jail.
Say no = Police continue to ride by.
I’m choosing b all day and take my chances.
If I were speeding and the police asked how fast was I going, I’m going to ask what is the speed limit. Whatever is the speed limit is how fast I was going.
Im not going to say “I mus not tell a lie and yes officer I was speeding”. I was doing 57 mph on I285. Please bestow my citation upon me.

Reality Time,
Get back in the kitchen. Mike Vick was MORE than a team player because if you know ANYTHING about football you would know that Mike Vick carried that entire offense(some would say defense too) on his BACK! He wasn’t afforded the opportunity to play with a pro-bowl running back, WR and a decent offensive line. Roddy White couldn’t catch a cold before last year. Now go cook something!!

Sorry Joe, cant’ go back in the kitchen right now, unlike you, I work. As to knowing football, I actually know quite a bit about it and I know that Michael Vick was never known for his work ethic or putting time in the film room. Natural talent will only get you so far, working at it will always make you better. It’s amazing to me that a wide receiver who had been average at best is suddenly a pro bowler under a new quarterback. Not everything is a coincidence.

Roy B, apparently you have mistaken me for someone else. I said nothing about pit bulls or dog fighting or anything relating to that. I said nothing about misdemeanors, felonies or anything else. As to perjury, what does that have to do with a dog fighting. Perjury in itself is a crime, whether you have committed a crime yourself or not. Lie under oath to protect someone else, that is perjury. If you want to disagree with me, fine, but disagree with what I said not with your standard come backs about Vick.

Reality Time..no everything is not a coincidence, which is why Roddy pointed out what HIS work ethic was before the 2007 season…oh and 2007 was his first 1,000 yard season with 3 different QBs…why? Not because of the QBs, but because HE decided to actually get serious..by his own admission. He credited Petrino with his change in attitude and work habits. He dropped weight and stopped eating at Mickey D’s three times a day. So go take your “coincidence” and stuff it, it doesn’t apply here.

Reality Time – Was Mike under oath when he spoke to Godell or to Arthur. That seems to be the issue here with most people. I don’t recall him commiting perjury in court. All I hear is he lied to Arthur, he lied to the commish. Mike was hoping that he was going to get past this. At that point it was not a lock that he would be implicated.
McCrotch – Bozo, that was just to prove a point that everyone has lied and more than likely will depending on the circumstances. If you can get away with a “whew! that was close and I’m not doing this anymore”, then you would.

Titleletown: Do you know what an opinion is? You have one, I have a different one, an opinion does not have to be provided right or wrong, it is simply that, an opinion, what you think about a matter and what I think about a matter. That doesn’t make me a hater. This blog is supposed to be about stating opinions. You don’t know me, I don’t know you. Why does everything have to be reduced to attacking bloggers personally for having a different opinion. I have said nothing derogatory in response to anyone who has implied that I am stupid because I am a woman, that my opinion of Michael Vick’s football playing ability is based on his dog fighting, what kind of dog I would or and whether you should lie to the police, none of what relate to anything I have said.
