Again, this trade is so exciting for the Falcons - I bet Matt and Michael Turner were in their backyards screaming and doing backflips. The thing about the NFL is this: You cannot (because of salary caps, 53 man rosters, and egos) have a COMPLETE team on both sides of the ball. There are going to be weaknesses somewhere on an NFL roster.

However, the Falcons have what looks like on paper (God willing, no injuries) a very compete offensive unit. Also, we have a unit that is going to be effective, exciting, and will most likely be a top scoring offense in the league.

THIS BODES WELL FOR OUR DEFENSE. They will have to control, but not completely shutdown opposing teams. With the roster shaping up, the new draftees coming in, and good coaching, this is entirely possible.

Now the pressure is really on the front office to get the Draft right, since all they have to do is focus on the defense.

Mark, I think the hardest part for Chiefs fans right now, is that they had to watch Herm tear down with Dick Vermeil had built (but never won a playoff game with), and go with a youth movement, and now 3 years later have to watch that tear down happen all over again.

You would not believe how up in arms KC fans are on the talk radio shows about possibly moving Glenn Dorsey less than a year after taking him #5 overall. Which I understand. But if Clark Hunt (and the fans) are to trust Pioli/Haley, then they need to let them do it their way, and clearly they want to run a 3-4 which Dorsey allegedly doesn't fit too well into.

Definitely sucks to have wasted that #5 pick on a guy that doesn't fit into the "plan" a year later, but it surely isn't the first busted 1st round pick the Chiefs have had since I've been a fan LOL!

Add to that, if Pioli can actually trade Dorsey and get something for him that DOES fit in his system, isn't that better than hanging on to Glenn and forcing a square peg into a round hole for the next 3-4 years? I think it is.

The only sad thing in all of this, is that I think Brian Waters gets traded too, and in the end Larry Johnson is gonna still be there. (sigh)

Scott Pioli will do a fine job in Kansas City, N8, but you're right: He has a ton of work ahead.

But so did Dimitroff a year ago.

Well, I've been listening to KC radio all day today, and firing up the KC Star message boards and what not, and the majority of the fan base is P.O'd. Think the Chiefs got hozed.

Perhaps for the 2009 season they did. Certainly Cassel could use #88 in the red-zone and for moving the chains. But this is where your GM and my Chiefs' new GM understand the game, the draft and the "big picture" better than anyone out there.

The Chiefs are a minimum of 2 years if not 3 years from being serious contenders for the Lombardi trophy. Haley knows it, Pioli knows it, owner Clark Hunt knows it, and the patient fans in the fan base know it.

The biggest gripe of the day, was that it was for a 2010 pick and not 2009. So what? If this is a 2 or 3 year rebuilding process, where Pioli/Haley are gonna gut the Chiefs roster and start new, then why does it matter WHAT YEAR the draft picks are in.

Whether the Falcons record drops (in which case it could be a higher 2nd round pick) or if they get to the SB and that draft pick is a late 2nd rounder. It's STILL higher than a 3rd rounder, which by what I've read, is what the Falcons were offering if Pioli wanted a pick this year.

Smart move on the Falcons to save all their picks this year, to make a push. Smart move on Pioli knowing that regardless of draft position, a 2nd is higher than a 3rd.

Add to that, I don't think Pioli is done making moves. I'd be SHOCKED if that pick they just got from the Falcons isn't used with other picks to go after a guy like Boldin, or if the 3-Way trade rumor is true having the Falcons getting Dorsey and the Panthers getting Peppers with Carolina getting draft picks.

Gonna be a fun weekend either way. Falcons made their team better for the next year or two, and my GM made my team better for the next 10 years (assuming he makes a sound pick with that pick).

Additionally, we won't know the total impact until we hear about the new renegotiated contract terms and the cap impact. Anyone heard anything?
