Who says I never let y’all have fun on the weekend?

For your weekend entertainment pleasure — at least if you’re a nerd like me — I present:

Tax Reform: The Game.

Feels like it needs a bit more, huh? How about:

Tax Reform: The Game!

That’s better.

All joking aside, this is a pretty neat interactive site created by Christine Ries, an economist at Georgia Tech and member of the special council on tax reform which the Legislature created three years ago to produce reform recommendations. Reform recommendations it largely went on to ignore, that is.

But, had those recommendations not largely been ignored, there would be no reason for Tax Reform: The Game. In it, Ries has included several of the recommendations the council made. Players can mix and match them — and see how their choices would affect state revenues.

Here’s a preview of what it looks like, though you’ll have to click through one of the links above to actually play the game:

Tax Reform The Game

And if fiscal fun isn’t your idea of a good time this weekend, feel free to use the thread below to discuss other topics.

(H/t to, and more information about the game available at the site of, the Georgia Public Policy Foundation.)

As most of us have long suspected, the man who told Novak about Valerie Plame was Richard Armitage – Slate

Bob Dole and Ronnie Reagan say,”What”?

After the end of the Vietnam War Armitage moved to Washington, D.C. to serve as a consultant for the United States Department of Defense. He was almost immediately sent to serve in Tehran, Iran until November 1976. Following that posting, he moved to Bangkok and operated an import/export business in the private sector for the next two years. In 1978, he returned to the U.S. and started working as an aide to Republican Senator Bob Dole.[citation needed]

In late 1980, Armitage became a foreign policy advisor to President-elect Ronald Reagan.

“After we are attacked , real Americans unite to show patriotism and resolve.”

I’m just devastated that the “patriotism” card got played so early….or is it the Joker?

Evidently some of us prefer to define “patriotism” as questioning a leader that disappeared for 8 or so hours in a time of crisis and refuses to say why?

The question is Get, why does that not concern you and those like you……it should, regardless of what letter is behind the name of said President.

Thank you. But yearning “for peace in the political world?” I am not that naïve. Only for a little sanity, which still appears to be too much to ask.

I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration, somehow you’re not patriotic, and we should stand up and say, “We are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration!”

I like to throw that out anytime some loon starts questioning the patriotism of the folks who think right.
Who said that….. Hillary Clinton Apr 2003.

Sorry if you have seen it posted by me before, but Hillary is right a loyal opposition is vital to America and I have the right to protest a President, who has said so much about how loathsome GWB’s administration was and then does the exact same things he criticized, often to a greater degree. What a pompous, blustering, insincere, devious, hypocritical, incompetent, and loathsome campaigner in chief we have.

Kamwhack, I mean, chak – You do know what “moderate” means, don’t you?

The United States Senate confirmed him as Deputy Secretary of State on March 23, 2001; he was sworn in three days later. A close associate of Secretary of State Colin Powell, Armitage was regarded, along with Powell, as a moderate within the presidential administration of George W. Bush.

“Everybody believes in their own facts.”

Facts don’t matter to cons.

I said show him some respect or begone.

You show the office the respect. If Obama walked into a room I was in then I would immediately stand and show the position of the respect it deserves. I would listen to every word he said and if he spoke to me then I would say yes sir or no sir.

I have NO respect for what the MAN believes in. I think his philosophy of Marxism (no matter how you want to spin it bottom line is what he believes is the same think as what Marx and Engle believed in) is destroying this country and I will fight with everything I have to make sure his agenda is NOT put into effect.

See the difference? BTW: It is not because the color of his skin because I will feel the exact same way when Hillary or Biden runs for office.

. . . and meanwhile, Hillary has stated:

“We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”

“It’s time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few, and for the few…… And to replace it with shared responsibility for shared prosperity.”

“(We) …..can’t just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people.”

“We have to build a political consensus and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own … in order to create this common ground.”

“I certainly think the free-market has failed.”

“I think it’s time to send a clear message to what has become the most profitable sector in (the) entire economy that they are being watched.”

There are comments that immediately reveal the paucity of reason. One of them is to use labels as substitutes for arguments. For example, by saying that Obama’s “philosophy of Marxism is destroying this country,” the author apparently thinks that by calling someone a Marxist or his philosophy Marxism is a sufficient argument. You do not have to show by evidence and logic that any particular decision or policy is wrong; you just call it Marxism, communism, socialism, fascism, or whatever comes to mind as most derogatory.

Other people make ignorant comments that have no basis in facts, but which may sound convincing to those, who are equally ignorant. For instance, suggesting that the high amount of snow in a snowstorm in New England is somehow evidence against global warming.

Senator Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, then the Finance Committee’s ranking Republican, accused the president of hypocrisy.

“President Obama has been almost obsessively critical of offshore investments,” Mr. Grassley said. “He called Ugland House ‘either the biggest building or the biggest tax scam on record.’ That makes this Cayman Islands investment of his top official and now Treasury secretary nominee worthy of attention. The irony is thick. Members of the Finance Committee will question Mr. Lew about his foreign investments at the hearing.”
