For your weekend entertainment pleasure — at least if you’re a nerd like me — I present:
Feels like it needs a bit more, huh? How about:
That’s better.
All joking aside, this is a pretty neat interactive site created by Christine Ries, an economist at Georgia Tech and member of the special council on tax reform which the Legislature created three years ago to produce reform recommendations. Reform recommendations it largely went on to ignore, that is.
But, had those recommendations not largely been ignored, there would be no reason for Tax Reform: The Game. In it, Ries has included several of the recommendations the council made. Players can mix and match them — and see how their choices would affect state revenues.
Here’s a preview of what it looks like, though you’ll have to click through one of the links above to actually play the game:
And if fiscal fun isn’t your idea of a good time this weekend, feel free to use the thread below to discuss other topics.
(H/t to, and more information about the game available at the site of, the Georgia Public Policy Foundation.)

It has become apparent that the independent pharmacies are probably going the way of the local hardware store. You will still have them in the small towns and villages, but in larger cities, they are not going to be able to compete. Sad, I still remember how the drug store of my youth, smelled.

That’s true. It reminds me of another story. I was at the doctor once and I asked him about a prescription. I told him my insurance would no longer cover it, so he says, “Well, you can get this one at Kroger or WalMart for $4. It’s the same thing”. And my question was, “If it’s the same thing, why the hell haven’t you been prescribing that one the whole time?”.
And you have a point about the local drug stores and small towns. Out where I live, some folks have to drive 15-20 miles to get to a chain store. Most of the folks who need prescriptions the most are old and don’t need to be driving much and don’t want to be driving much. At least they ought to let the local pharmacies participate in the same program as the big boys. Of course, we can guess which group has the ear of the folks who make the rules.

” In my opinion, the feeling of Obama and his appointees is that it is permissible to intentionally mislead, conceal or lie about anything and everything to the American people.”
And evidently it is true as the man was just re-elected. I’m not sure how to interpret that…are his supporters also just turning a blind eye or are they just tuned out to what is really happening around them?

4. Anyone who refers to another commenter by anything other than the handle the latter uses will be subject to a ban of at least one week. This may sound like an extraordinary measure, but it is the source of many commenter fights. A shortened version of the handle may be acceptable, but only if there is no obvious intent to insult. As I will be the sole judge of that intent, I recommend you err on the side of not being too cute. The ban will also be applied to anyone who refers to commenters by previous handles they used.
Yep.

Well, why we’re on the subject, I’ve been called names for weeks now on this same blog and managed not to blubber about it. But then again, I’m not a liberal.

Well, I’ve just gotten back and see that MarkV has read all the good Kerry reports. Skipped the other kind. Democrat=good.
Then MarkV did not even mention Hagel who is also a veteran with medals. I don’t think he needs to be in the cabinet either. But no defense from MarkV on Hagel. Republican=no defense.
Sorry, MarkV, there’s no shame on finding well known facts and making a decision. Disagreeing with you is light debate Don’t get so unpleasant about it. It is possible to disagree without being insulting. Try it!
Good night all. Rain on the plain tomorrow.
