Poll Position: Which big win would make you happiest?

Now for something completely different …

As my longtime readers know, I’m a sports fan. And if there’s been a bigger four-day stretch of big and potentially big sports news in Atlanta than we’ve seen beginning Wednesday, I don’t recall it.

Which of these big wins makes (or would make) you happiest?

  • UGA's (potential) SEC title/BCS title game berth (120 Votes)
  • The Falcons' big win (64 Votes)
  • Sports? I'd rather be shopping ... or raking leaves! (21 Votes)
  • Tech's (potential) ACC title (18 Votes)
  • The Braves' big moves (13 Votes)

Total Voters: 236

Loading ... Loading ...

Wednesday: The Braves reached a deal with free-agent CF B.J. Upton.

Thursday: The Falcons beat their arch-nemesis, the Saints, to move within a whisker of the NFC South title and a step closer to home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. (As a bonus, a loss Sunday by Tampa Bay would give the division title to the Falcons.)

Friday: The Braves traded pitcher Tommy Hanson, freeing up payroll funds for another possible big move (a LF or 3B, depending on where the ultra-versatile Martin Prado plays next year).

Saturday: Georgia Tech plays for the ACC championship in Charlotte while, here in Atlanta, Georgia plays Alabama for the SEC title and a spot in the BCS national-championship game in Miami on Jan. 7.

Oh, and the Hawks are playing better than most people (or at least this person) expected when they traded away All-Star Joe Johnson earlier this year.

For a city that has never been confused with Titletown, U.S.A., this is a big Bid’n deal.

Make no mistake: My main interest, really my only interest, this weekend is seeing the Bulldogs knock off Alabama and keeping marching toward the promised land. As far as predictions go, my head says the two teams are evenly matched except that experience and coaching give an edge to the Crimson Tide. But my gut … well, let’s just say I’ve learned not to listen to my gut.

But how about the rest of you? Football is king in the South, but I know from experience that some of you (cough, cough, Dusty) are bigger baseball fans. Which development (or potential development) makes you jump for joy at the mere thought?

That’s this week’s Poll Position question. Answer in the nearby poll and in the comments thread below.

(And no, none of these would make me change my mind about a new stadium.)

I’m extremely excited in hopes that Tech wins the ACC Title; a must watch game. I’m also extremely excited to watch my stash of replays of Atlanta Chiefs soccer matches from the 60’s. GO DAWGS–hoping for Dawgs, National Champions; Falcons, Super Bowl Win; and continuing disaster for the NERDS.

How about: all the politicians in Washington throw themselves bodily off the “fiscal cliff”?

WE WIN! :)

Have a good weekend all.

I can watch football, if I don’t have anything to do but me, I’m just waiting ’til pitchers and catchers to report. One of the positives about the internet is that it is possible to watch some of the Winter Leagues. They’re in Spanish but baseball is the same in any language.

And as for the last pick in the poll, I’d rather be beat with a 2 x 4 than to go shopping and if God didn’t want the leaves on the ground, He wouldn’t have put them there. Who am I to interfere with His plan? They’ll rot eventually, anyhow.

This is a college football town, so I will be surprised if the possibility of a Dawg win, doesn’t win out. Go Dawgs.

Getalife and I finally agree on something, must be the full moon.

Dogs/Tide SEC game definitely first, Falcons win last night a close second (how we did that with our offense fast asleep was a miracle). Hanson, good riddance.

Sorry about that. Glad Tommy is gone, every fifth game with be much shorter now. Hanson took longer between each pitch than anyone since Steve Trachsel, plus all the stolen bases, walks, and meetings on the mound made watching games he pitched, insufferable.

Otherwise he seemed like a nice guy, but a declining pitcher.

Kyle posted “my head says the two teams are evenly matched except that experience and coaching give an edge to the Crimson Tide.”

So the bookmakers have the visiting team over a touchdown favorite only because of experience and coaching? Did you see the game last year?

Not a dogs fan but will be rooting for them over the tide and ND if they get that far.

Hope Tech pulls it out over fsu, but think they should just stay home from a bowl if they lose.

Birds have no consistency except for the w’s, that won’t cut it come playoff time.

Braves are making bold moves, it should be interesting. Upton just a bit faster Uggla?

Bookmaking doesn’t really have much to do with who they think will win the game. The line is strictly set from how much action each side is betting. If one side starts to draw too much action, compared to the other side, they’ll adjust the line to get the other team’s gamblers back in play. The odds makers are trying to get as much money as possible out of the suckers, on both sides.

Kyle, must be extremely tempting to sell your tickets to the GA game, which is televised, for an amt. that would put at least one of your kids through a year or so of college.
Go, Dawgs.
If Ala. wins, hope it’s only by only one point, or a field goal after 3 OTs. If GA wins, hope it’s by 3 TDs.
I get all my ironing done during the GA games. 35 year routine. Poor clothes!

As getalife said…I’m already happy…but to be really ecstatic…

1) Dawgs beat ‘Bama…then Notre Dame with “Gurshall”…like we did in the Sugar Bowl…..
2) Falcons win out and go to the Super Bowl……that’ll remind me of 1998 when we weren’t expected to beat the Vikings….
3) Then the Hawks and the Braves……

GO DAWGS!! SIC ‘EM!!

I hate to tell you guys but football is nothing more than knock down, drag out and dodge ball through the knees. The big deal of squats in line, squeeze pigskin between your legs and then end up on the bottom of a six man pileup. Every now and then there’s a gallop down the field and someone throws the ball !!Hiyiii!!! It misses you.l. whoops Another pileup just for keeps.

Then they are near the poles, posts, whatever!. A delicate creature comes and tiptoes to the ball. Wham! He toes in a few points…much jumping, bumping together and high fives etc etc etc .

The referee drops his handkerchief and blow his little whistle. Foul! The player blinked before he ducked. Penalty!!! awwww…15 yards…lousy referee!!! Booooo!

There’s more padding on a football field than in an upholstery factory. The teams are probably midgets but nobody is telling.

Please, Kyle, when you start the football reviews let me know. I’ll try and plan some vacation time.

In the meantime…..GO BRAVES!! Now that’s something worth talking about…

Kyle, I’m glad you’ve learned about how one’s gut can be deceptive…the only thing more painful than being a Braves fan these days (1 game and out) will be being a Con over the next few years…and that’s not my gut talking.

Linda

Kyle, I hope you will consider banning the liberals from referring to conservatives as “cons,” not that it bothers conservatives, but because it bothers actual cons, i.e. those in prison for stealing, robbing, burglary, etc., since they are Democrats, you know, those voters who were taught by Democrats that social justice is justice, that we were not just created equal, per our Declaration of Independence, but deserve equal outcomes, per the declaration of progressives, & that they, the real cons, were entitled to other people’s stuff.
Felons vote Democrat just the same as dead people.

Mr. Snarky EAT YOUR WORDS.

There’e nothing better than being a Braves fan. Well, maybe being a conservative is a more rewarding and logical thing, but the Braves have unbeatable charm. They can give a baseball its finest day. They are also kind enough to let other teams win a few games. Share the glory!

Another thing, one’s gut is not decptive unless you are eating greasy red hot enchladas with refried beans and pouty pink Koolaid. That’s not deceptive. It is revolutionary!

Your party needs all the prayers it can get, not from Obama’s minister of 20 years who said, “God damn America!” & in addition to damning America, he told his congregation on the Sunday after Sept. 11, 2001 that the United States had brought on al Qaeda’s attacks because of its own terrorism.
