Now for something completely different …
As my longtime readers know, I’m a sports fan. And if there’s been a bigger four-day stretch of big and potentially big sports news in Atlanta than we’ve seen beginning Wednesday, I don’t recall it.
Which of these big wins makes (or would make) you happiest?
Total Voters: 236
Wednesday: The Braves reached a deal with free-agent CF B.J. Upton.
Thursday: The Falcons beat their arch-nemesis, the Saints, to move within a whisker of the NFC South title and a step closer to home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. (As a bonus, a loss Sunday by Tampa Bay would give the division title to the Falcons.)
Friday: The Braves traded pitcher Tommy Hanson, freeing up payroll funds for another possible big move (a LF or 3B, depending on where the ultra-versatile Martin Prado plays next year).
Saturday: Georgia Tech plays for the ACC championship in Charlotte while, here in Atlanta, Georgia plays Alabama for the SEC title and a spot in the BCS national-championship game in Miami on Jan. 7.
Oh, and the Hawks are playing better than most people (or at least this person) expected when they traded away All-Star Joe Johnson earlier this year.
For a city that has never been confused with Titletown, U.S.A., this is a big Bid’n deal.
Make no mistake: My main interest, really my only interest, this weekend is seeing the Bulldogs knock off Alabama and keeping marching toward the promised land. As far as predictions go, my head says the two teams are evenly matched except that experience and coaching give an edge to the Crimson Tide. But my gut … well, let’s just say I’ve learned not to listen to my gut.
But how about the rest of you? Football is king in the South, but I know from experience that some of you (cough, cough, Dusty) are bigger baseball fans. Which development (or potential development) makes you jump for joy at the mere thought?
That’s this week’s Poll Position question. Answer in the nearby poll and in the comments thread below.
(And no, none of these would make me change my mind about a new stadium.)

Sorry, saywhat, but the study didn’t provide data for 2008, Our President Bush’s last year in office, or 2009, Obozo’s first.
Were you aware that Our President Bush had increased median household net worth by nearly 20% from 2001 to 2007? You are now.

Nice try. The study clearly states the median income “plunged” starting in 2007, during the reign of error of your president bush.
Tell me again what good it is to increase net worth by 20% over 6 years if it is only going to decline by twice that amount over the next two or three years.
Were you aware that your president bush was the worst. president. ever.?You are now.

Want to know why the neocons have gotten crushed in three out of the past four elections?
Look no further than: “The worst president in American history was elected in 2008, and reelected in 2012. That’s saying quite a bit since he nudged Jimmy Carter out of that position!”
cc/CC, Lil BB, et al are the libs’ secret weapon.

Nice try, saywhat. What was household net worth in 2008? Surely if we know it plunged in 2007, you can tell us what it was in 2008.
Why hasn’t Obozo been able to increase it back to where Our President Bush had it in 2007? He’s had four years.
Obozo: Inferior to Our President Bush.

Obama has been on the campaign trail this week touting his class warfare agenda, claiming that if the Bush tax cuts expire on the middle income earners, it would cost an average of $2000 per family. This site includes a map of the “average tax savings from a one-year extension of the Bush tax cuts” in ‘13 on all taxpayers. There are 5 states that average from $4242 to $5783 & 5 that average from $1310 to $1530. Couldn’t help but notice that his Blue state voters would get that “revenge” he was talking about.

Much of this proposal has to be bargaining material or Obama is certifiably a blithering idiot, not that I doubt the probability of the latter! Anyone with half a brain, excluding liberals who have no brain, can immediately determine at a glance that this is pure hogwash and will do far greater damage to the economy than he has already succeeded in doing. If the drag on consumption is “redistributed” as suggested, I predict a boom in lottery ticket sales, malt liquor sales and illegal drug sales.

CC: Yes, he has clearly chosen a “Fair” America over a “prosperous” America, so you can’t expect his decisions to make much economic sense. Libs will argue that you can have a “fair” America and a “prosperous” America. That has been proven to be false everywhere it has been tried. In an effort to force fairness, the pie is just continually redivided over and over, to make sure everyone gets the same size piece, until the misery is spread evenly.
The utopians always claim that you can bring the bottom up without lowering the top, but like in education, the theory never works. It seems there is always a bottom that doesn’t move, you have to bring the top down to achieve average.

Obama’s offer to avoid going over the fiscal cliff is like a prospective buyer offering $100,000 for a house appraised at $300,000, anticipating that he will eventually get the house for $200,000, splitting the difference with the seller. It appears that Obama also asked for the furnishings, the cars & the family pets.
Obama might be surprised when the seller counter-offers with $500,000, the same amt. OVER the asking price that the buyer offered UNDER the asking price. The seller might get the impression that the buyer is not serious & is, in fact, wasting the seller’s time with insults.
It’s time for the seller to change his phone number.

Sorry to have to correct you, again, but you should be used to it by now. Your worst president ever’s tax cut benefitted the middle class as well, but not to the obscenely out-of-proportion extent it benefitted the wealthy. Your masters have had a relatively cheap ride for too long. Its time for the money hoarding non-job producing to pay their share. The election is over, and the Americans have spoken.
It will be o.k. to raise taxes on the middle class for the purpose of closing the defict once we finish our ascent out of the economic disaster created by your president bush (worst. president. ever.) Until then, the money is need to stimulate the American economy.

Not according to the progs. When they did admit that the tax cuts benefitted the middle class, they claimed their cuts were minuscule.
The middle class won’t notice their missing Bush tax cut.
They WILL notice their missing job, after taxes go up disproportionately on small businesses.

Democrats’ example of spending cuts: the wars the US had planned to wage on Cuba, Brazil & California have been officially called off & the $1 T that those wars would have cost the US, that we would have borrowed from China, can now be spent on unions in blue states. We can now afford Stimulus MDCCXIV!
