I may as well bow to the reality that y’all will spend the entire weekend talking about the election regardless of what topic I write about, so here it is: Your weekend-before-the-election open thread.
The rules still apply — it’s an open thread, not a no-holds-barred thread — but otherwise, have at it.

saving it for future retirees
Nonsense of course.
How do you expect the government to save the excess money being generated by social security taxes, pile it in a vault somewhere?

That’s exactly what I would expect–that it would be saved. That’s what everyone expected when Our President Reagan worked on a bipartisan basis to reform SS so that there would be a surplus.
Now we know better–government will spend every dime it can get its hands on, and then some.
That’s why President Romney is correct to rule out one dollar in higher taxes in return for even ten dollars in cuts–the additional tax revenue would just be spent.
When it comes to fixing Obozo’s trillion-dollar deficits, “It’s the Spending, Stupid”.

Is it OK to blame Obozo for blowing through $800 billion in a failed “stimulus” that was really just a slush fund to pay off political allies? Is it OK to blame Obozo for Obozocare and the lid it has put on economic growth? Is it OK to blame Obozo for failing to do anything to reform entitlements? Is it OK to blame Obozo for proposing trillion dollar deficits every year?

Legitimate concerns one and all LBB.
But one has to acknowledge that a previous administration’s policies can and do affect the country long after they leave office. That’s what the Right does when complaining about deficits and Obamacare, all the while refusing to allow for W’s policies and the ongoing effects of them.

Troll, that’s essentially the point I was trying to make earlier.
Every president has to play the hand they’re dealt. Our President Reagan was dealt a failing economy and turned it around very strongly. I wish Obozo had been able to do the same but (as was predicted by the right at the time) the steps he took were doomed to fail. Four years in, it’s time for some accountability.

Now Minnesota’s in play -
Romney takes 46 percent of the vote to Obama’s 45 percent in the poll, which was conducted by the GOP firm NMB Research and shared with POLITICO. The Republican presidential nominee is up 13 points among independents, ahead of Obama 49 percent to 36 percent.

From Mr. Marinov——–who saw his country go down the same road.————————-
“The Republican voters hate Obama but they desperately need him. Without him, there will be no excuse for blindly following the party directives to vote for a man who is anti-Christian, anti-liberty, and anti-life. Obama provides the perfect excuse why principled voting should be avoided at any cost, and the party line should be toed. Just like the Nazis needed the Communists, and the Communists needed the Nazis to justify their immorality, today’s Republican voters need Obama as the reason why they don’t have to think clearly, and why they don’t have to be faithful to their professed conservative principles. If Obama didn’t exist, they would have invented him. While they all say how dangerous Obama is for America, none of them can explain why they vote for Romney without throwing the blame on Obama. Romney has no independent existence without Obama. And the GOP has no purpose unless it can use the Democrats as an excuse.
We can say, Obama serves an important political function for the neocon leadership of the GOP, and an important psychological function for the neocon voters.
That’s why it is so unbearable for them when they are asked the question about the difference between Romney and Obama. It brings them back to the reality of the mirror, and the face they hate in that mirror”

The audience seemed genuinely stunned, taking in its collective breath.
“Instead, I ask the American people to vote for love of country,” Romney said, drawing the longest and loudest applause of the night.

Re-electing Obama would be much like Coca-cola appointing as their new CEO, the guy/gal who came up with the brilliant idea of New Coke. His policies have been about as successful as New Coke, the stimulus, cash for clunkers, billions wasted on “Solar” companies, his friendship initiative with Iran, Obamacare, and his apology tour.
Tiberius, the reason so many of the Dems repeat the talking points of the Benghazi cover-up, is they have never heard the truth. I check CNN online constantly and there has been little mention, few stories, on the disaster. I have on occasion gone looking for something on the alphabet media websites and found nothing. There is a total media black out on an evidence surfacing that contradicts the cover-up from the WH. I saw where Guiliana called on the Mistake to resign, which I have as well. This is a bigger cover-up that Watergate, we just haven’t found the 17 minute gap in the tape, yet. A John Dean will come forward, I believe, maybe after the election. Surely, there is one non Koolaid drinker in that nest of liars.

frighten the people in Ohio
Mark, what frightens the people of Ohio, is that 90% of their electricity comes from coal, and Obama has threatened to close any coal plants that open and has sicked his EPA on those that are now operating. Many people in Ohio depend on the mining of coal for a living. Obama scares the daylights out of them.

If Obama had announced in 2008 that he would take the unemployment rate from 7.8% in Jan., ‘09 to 10% by Oct., ‘09 & keep it above 9% for 2 years (the rest of ‘09, all of ‘10 & until 10/11), & bring it down to 8.9% in Oct., ‘11 & to 8.7% in Nov., ‘11 & to 8.5% in Dec., ‘11 & keep it above 8% for the first 8 months in ‘12 & finally back down to 7.8% in Sept., ‘12 before increasing again in Oct., ‘12, the liberals would have still voted for him.
Since the unemployment rate was 7.8% when Obama was inaugurated & has never been below 7.8%, the fact is that not ONE NET job has been created under the Obama adm. Zilch! Nada! At least he ended up where he started, until last month.
What is sad is that liberals actually believe that jobs have been created under the Obama adm., that the Obama adm. actually wanted to create jobs & that his next four years will be better than the last four years.
Shucks, with a few trillion more dollars thrown down the sewer, maybe better luck will flow out the other end.

This country has much to be proud of. But it also has the dark sides of her history, such as slavery, the treatment of natives Americans, of the Japanese Americans during WWII, the denial of civil rights.
One of the more recent shameful episodes of our history is the political era of “Tail-Gunner Joe” and the House Committee on Un-American Activities. And now, in the same tune, comes the “clever” Li’l Barry to define who is American.
