The weekend before Nov. 6, what else would we talk about?

I may as well bow to the reality that y’all will spend the entire weekend talking about the election regardless of what topic I write about, so here it is: Your weekend-before-the-election open thread.

The rules still apply — it’s an open thread, not a no-holds-barred thread — but otherwise, have at it.

I can hardly wait for the GOP “clown show” of 2016. Hmmmmmh…let’s see. Who will they come up with this time around? Donald Combover? A certainty. Nutty Moonbase? 100% certainty. Sarah Snowbilli? Longshot. Ricky No Sex, Ever? 100 certainty. Huckleberry? Longshot. Marco Token Hispanic? Could be. Pizzaman? I don’t think so. Already “shot his wad.”

One way or the other, it promises to be a show like none on earth.

Mona’s column

You could, without stretching, make an aesthetic case for voting against Barack Obama. Leaving aside the hobbled economy, the promised second term “flexibility” with Putin, the job-diminishing Dodd/Frank act, the Benghazi debacle, the train wreck called Obamacare, the assault on the free exercise of religion, the pretense that the Lilly Ledbetter Act codified equal pay for equal work, the limp response to Iran’s nuclear threat, the many Solyndras, kicking Bowles/Simpson to the curb, the “free” contraceptives, the recommendation that Israel do some “serious self-reflection,” the preening over bin Laden’s assassination, the Bill Clinton ad saying Romney wouldn’t have approved the mission, the pretense that Gabby Giffords’ shooting should put us on the path to political civility, the savaging of Paul Ryan in a speech to which he had been specifically invited, and the fact that Obama didn’t know the number when David Letterman asked about how big the national debt has become — there are grounds for firing Obama that rest upon seemliness.

“Then, he can go back to what he does best: shipping jobs to China a la Sensata Technologies.”

Not in charge of Bain while that happened, but keep thinking that, mikey.

“He can go back to hiding his money in offshore accounts to evade paying taxes.”

If he’s “hiding” that money, how come YOU know about it?

“He can go back to not having to worry about releasing his tax returns.”

I don’t think he’s worried a single day about those tax returns or their release, because he just doesn’t care what you think about them, mikey.

Romney worries about the important stuff; creating jobs and getting this economy actually moving faster than an AmVet thought.

Obama worries about Big Bird, binders and whatever silliness of the week strikes him.

Big frikkin’ deal. You’re supposed to praise people who perform their duties

Maybe folks here—including you, Tiberius—should follow that basic point of logic and decency instead of howling like banshees.

In other news, interesting couple of stories today concerning charter schools. First, they serve fewer low-income students than the systems that surround them. I am shocked–shocked, I tell you—that the main benefit of charter schools may not be rescuing poor noble folk. Second, Gov. Deal has made yet another questionable appointment to a state board. But I’m sure the new state charter board will be the shining exception to his usual pattern.

Great Job Barry…… At no time has our unemployment under Barry been lower than 7.8%, that is getting the job done for sure. You just can’t argue with a performance like that. Four more years and shucks we will probably be down in the high 6’s and only 19 million people will be looking for work or full time employment. What we need is more windmill and solar subsidies and porkulus 3. It is getting better. (sarcasm, for libs who don’t recognize it)

Obama’s was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009. His first full month in office was February 2009. The unemployment rate that month was 8.3%. It is now 7.9%. That is a decrease for you mathematically challenged conservatives out there. Even the dimmest Republicans (with the exception of Barry & Tiberius) would have to admit that when a president comes into office it takes some time for his policies to take effect on the economy at a macro level and that the numbers at the initial part of his term are residual effects of the previous administration. So how long should we give him until we expect his policies to influence the economy? A year? (unemployment = 9.8% in 2/2010) 10 months? (unemployment = 10% in 10/2009) 6 months? (unemployment = 9.5% in 6/2009) 3 months? (unemployment = 8.7% in 3/2009).

Any way you slice it, the unemployment rate has dropped considerably under Obama. And Obama has created more jobs in 4 years than Bush did in 8 years.

The Dow may have been at 14,000 at some point under Bush, right before he destroyed the economy. It was at 9000 and dropping when he left office (5000 points below where it is right now). And yes, the Dow is a partial indicator of the strength of the economy (and certainly affects my net worth).

But it doesn’t surprise me when criminal swindlers (Tib) are supporting a fellow swindler (Myth Romney).

“Any way you slice it, the unemployment rate has dropped considerably under Obama.”

Partially true. The problem is that the 23 million Americans underemployed or who have just given up might disagree with your glowing assessment.

“And Obama has created more jobs in 4 years than Bush did in 8 years.”

Not even remotely true. Obama’s term has a net LOSS of jobs during his four years.

Well, it is always nice to remember THE NATION’S DEBT

Martin Crutsinger AP wrote a ;piece about it in AJC Nov. 1 on page A2. Here are a few quotes from his piece “Debt limit will be hit in December, feds say”

“Treasury Assistant Secretary Matthew Rutherford said Treasury would employ the same types of procedures it has used previously to keep borrowing under the current debt limit of $16.39 trillion until Congress votes to increase the debt limit ceiling. The nation’s debt stands $16.16 trillion.”
and
“Lawmakers and the administration will also need to reach agreement on a budget reduction plan to avert tax increases and across the board spending cuts from taking effect in January. Economists have warned that if this so called fiscal cliff is not avoided, the adverse effects on the economy could push the country back into recession.”
and
“Treasury says it expects to borrow $342 billion during the January-March quarter of next year..”

Crutsinger also mentioned the ways Treasury will “get around” the debt ceiling so they can still borrow money.

It does look like our present $16.16 TRILLION DEBT will be even greater by the end of the year. Then the debt ceiling will be raised next year.

We definitely need some NEW fiscal management in this country. Romney knows how to do it as he already has the experience of doing it successfully.. . .

Very true.

“We definitely need some NEW fiscal management in this country. Romney knows how to do it…”

By giving a 20% overall tax cut (the infamous 4.8 trillion loss over 10 years) and spending the 2 trillion more on defense …

That’s easy, Barry. Of course I will. Mitt Romney is a good man, and a smart man. I do get a chuckle of the lies he told to get the GOP nomination. No question he would be a good President, and maybe the leader the Republican Party needs to rescue it from the current hostage takers. My principal worry is that crowd of Cheney worshipers who Romney has on his foreign policy team.

You’ve so boxed yourself in to a narrow ideology, that there’s little chance you could make a similar statement if the President is re-elected.
And Barry, the fact is, if Obama wins, it will be because Americans chose him, not Romney. Hard as it will be for some to swallow. Call it an inconvenient fact.
