When it comes to intelligence briefings, Obama isn’t even voting ‘present’

Marc Thiessen asks a good question in the Washington Post today: Why is President Obama skipping more than half of his daily intelligence meetings?

Writes Thiessen:

Clint Eastwood re-enacts a scene from the president's daily intelligence briefings. (AP Photo)

Clint Eastwood re-enacts a scene from the president's daily intelligence briefings. (AP Photo)

President Obama is touting his foreign policy experience on the campaign trail, but startling new statistics suggest that national security has not necessarily been the personal priority the president makes it out to be. It turns out that more than half the time, the commander in chief does not attend his daily intelligence meeting.

The Government Accountability Institute examined President Obama’s schedule from the day he took office until mid-June 2012, to see how often he attended his Presidential Daily Brief (PDB) — the meeting at which he is briefed on the most critical intelligence threats to the country. During his first 1,225 days in office, Obama attended his PDB just 536 times — or 43.8 percent of the time. During 2011 and the first half of 2012, his attendance became even less frequent — falling to just over 38 percent. By contrast, Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush almost never missed his daily intelligence meeting.

Thiessen relays a comment by a spokesman for the National Security Council, who points out that Obama still receives the information from the briefing daily. But, as Thiessen points out, the administration has portrayed Obama’s participation in these meetings as evidence of his deep “exploration of foreign policy and intelligence issues.” That’s rather at odds with the reality that he skipped almost 700 of these meetings in three and a half years.

And, of course, we would like for our president to get into just such an exploration of these issues with his resident experts on foreign policy and intelligence. Thiessen cites former security officials who say the meetings are an important way for Obama and his security advisers to ask questions of one another. When the president isn’t there, that isn’t happening.

This is certainly of a piece with the reporting from Bob Woodward’s latest book that “gaps” in presidential leadership mean, at times, “no one is running Washington.”

Of course, attending these meetings would make it harder for the president to fulfill one of his other priorities in, ahem, unprecedented fashion.

How Michelle Rhee Is Taking Over the Democratic Party

In a major shift, education reformers are now influential at the highest levels of the party once dominated by the teachers unions.

Pretty soon, DemocratICK…tick…tick voters will have no one on their side when it comes to education reform.

Glad you were fooled by the fake objectivity of Meet the Depressed and Farce of the Nation. They did ask some “tough” questions of both parties, but tougher on the GOP. When the Dems answered they were assumed to be telling the truth. When the GOP answered they were presumed to be hiding something, so they got multiple follow ups. The questions were developed from their own ideological perspective, left wing, I’m afraid. If you think they were balanced, you probably thought Walter Cronkite was objectively reporting on the Vietnam war.

“no one is running Washington.”

. . . and that has been the case since January, 2009.

One of the very few legitimate functions of the federal government is the defense of America and its citizens. Common sense dictates that the President be aware of all potential threats to our nation. The Kenyan is far too occupied with steering America into communism, promoting class warfare and financing his re-election campaign to be concerned about the safety of the nation.

THE DOJ has not yet filed a lawsuit against Gallup. If they do, we will surely find out exactly what the Administration did or didn’t do.

With that said, how do you explain polling from other pollsters?

“Senseless insults to the President of the US?” Senseless insults. Now that’s really rich. This arrogant buffoon that you will vote for in November, for whatever reason I cannot fathom, has tried and nearly succeeded in destroying what we know as America. If he wins re-election, there is certainly no doubt. You might want to live in a Bozo America but there are a majority of Americans that see your hero for what he is ….. a narcissist half white/black socialist who seeks to make this a second rate country…… by choice. Auntie Christ, I don’t want to be second rate. Neither do the majority of Americans who have enjoyed this country and the freedoms that it gives us. I am not angry, I am not disturbed and I certainly don’t lurk around any blog. You are just as complicit in this sham as this sorry excuse for a president that we pretend to have. You are just to blind to see it.

If you had served in the military you would have learned you salute and respect the OFFICE not the person. An NCO may have little regard for a Colonel, but salutes nonetheless because you respect the office/rank, not because Colonel Smith would have his feelings hurt. Could it be because of the clown show of a primary season? How about the alienation of women? Could it possibly the alienation of Hispanics? How about Mitt’s ridiculous budget proposal? Bush – 3/13/02) and here’s a POTUS before attending even one such briefing: “What I have said is we’re going encourage democracy in Pakistan, expand our non-military aid to Pakistan so that they have more of a stake in working with us, but insisting that they go after these militants. And if we have Osama bin Laden in our sights and the Pakistani government is unable or unwilling to take them out, then I think that we have to act, and we will take them out. We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Qaida. That has to be our biggest national security priority.” (Barack Obama 10.7.2008). The results speak for themselves, but you draw your own conclusions regarding the POTUS that is more effective and the POTUS that was derelict in his duty.

They call it “ROMNEYCARE!!” I fully expect riots in the streets and general mischief all around. (SMDH…) I want to be the first to call for his long form, protracted version of his birth certificate, with witnesses to live birth affidavits attached, thereto. I want to see the transcripts from his church Bishop to make sure he was not being taught Radical Mormonism, he should be a 100% Christian. I want to know why his father was a Mexican immigrant, was that why George Romney released 12 years of tax returns??!!! Surely he is bringing the value of the Presidency down. He went to Harvard Law, an elitist, liberal school that teaches him nothing important. In the words of the Donald, show me his transcripts. Because in his transcripts show a poor performer and one who got in with public assistance (affirmative action) because he grew up po’ in Michigan (They were crazy rich). Shoot, all he got to do there was measure the height of trees. Ann Romney even said that they emphasize with people suffering through this recession although they don’t feel any pain financially. OMFG!!!!

I hope that illustrates just how immensely crazy the Right has and is sounding, on anything. I and most Americans could care less the President isn’t “present” to all briefings, I know it would be nice if he could be there, with all that intelligence a’gatherin and typin’ and stuff. The fact is that the Obama Adm. has not created one single, solitary net job since 1/09. Zilch! Nada!

The fact is that the American people know what’s going on. If the pollsters are being intimidated, then so are the pollees. Who in their right mind would tell an anonymous caller, claiming to be a pollster, that they intend on voting against Obama?
