2012 Tuesday: What will we hear from Charlotte?

Last week in Tampa, the Republicans made significant progress toward their main objectives: revealing more of the personal side of Mitt Romney, and clearly communicating their pitch to voters in this election.

This week in Charlotte, it’s the Democrats’ turn. What will President Obama and his party try to accomplish? Will they continue to play defense against the GOP or try to seize the initiative?

Going into today’s opening events, it would appear it’s the former, with Democrats trying to neutralize the Republican message. Here’s part of today’s curtain-raiser from the Wall Street Journal:

The Democratic Party’s goals for the three-day gathering include widening its advantages among female and Hispanic voters while limiting Mr. Obama’s losses among white, working-class ones. At the same time, its overarching ambition is to rebut Mr. Obama’s opponent, Mitt Romney, who used last week’s Republican National Convention to try to pry away the president’s 2008 voters by casting him as a nice guy who isn’t up to the challenge. …

A senior Obama campaign official said the president may offer one or two new policy proposals in his speech Thursday, when he accepts the nomination for re-election, but that he would spend more time arguing that his existing ideas on health care, education and deficit-reduction amount to “a clear, concrete and achievable plan” for a second term.

The New York Times sounds a similar note, observing that the thrill of 2008 is gone and that Democrats’ “unity at this point is defined less by faith in Mr. Obama or a robust vision for what the party should stand for than by the prospect that Republicans could control the White House and Congress next year and enact a conservative agenda that would unravel much of what Democrats have stood for since Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society.”

So it’s defense, defense, defense.

In football, they say defense wins championships. Will that work in this year’s election?

I have my doubts. For one, pitching themselves and Obama as a suitable status quo against a radical Republican Party led by Romney and Paul Ryan would seem to hinge on the word “suitable.” And voters have their own doubts about that: In a new poll for The Hill, voters said the nation is worse, not better, off than four years ago by a 54-32 margin, and that Obama does not deserve re-election by a 54-40 count.

Even the Obama camp is having a hard time answering the “better off” question, made famous in 1980 when Ronald Reagan posed that question to voters after four years of Jimmy Carter’s presidency. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley answered in the negative on “Face the Nation” Sunday — though he did gamely try to blame the Republicans — before backtracking on Monday.

Obama himself said yesterday he deserved a grade of “incomplete” for his handling of the economy, the same grade he gave himself last October and in August 2010. Will voters be as forgiving?

After the GOP spent a week being mostly upbeat in Tampa, I think it will be a problem for Obama if he and the Democrats can’t come up with a positive message in Charlotte.

And ironically, the debt clock is set to hit 16 Trillion to coincide with the dem convention. How fitting for a party that just added a 1/3 of it in the past 3.5 years………..

Conservative bloggers are predicting a Romney win, even in the face of his electoral vote advantage just two months prior to the election. How do they think the majority of swing/battleground states where Obama currently leads in polls will reverse? Or is this just cheer-leading?

You have been listening to the wrong people. I saw Rove and Trippi yesterday, they finally moved Texas and Georgia into the Romney states and CT into Obama’s. They have moved WI and NV into the toss ups with eight others. Rove said if we put NC into Romney’s camp, the electoral college is virtually tied something like 184 to 181,

10 toss up’s. If people are still undecided, after all this politicking and four years of incompetence, they most likely are going to vote against the incumbent. That is what gives us this enthusiasm.

@Kyle…”So it’s defense, defense, defense.”

That’s what you do when you are winning and are penned up in your end by defense or in this case outright lies…if the election were held today Obama wins 332 to 206. Could that change…maybe…is it likely…nope.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map_no_toss_ups.html

As for the lies, did Ryan actually utter a true statement last week? Politifact doesn’t think so…

-Ryan says Obama broke his promise on GM plant…Politifact FALSE

-Ryan says Obama did nothing with debt commission report…Politifact FALSE…plus they note that Ryan cast a key vote against the plan

-Ryan says Obama health reform “funneled out” $716 billion from Medicare “at the expense of the elderly.”…Politifact MOSTLY FALSE

-Ryan says Obama “has added more debt than any other president before him”…Politifact HALF TRUE

-Ryan says that when Romney was governor there from 2003-2007, “unemployment went down, household incomes went up,” and the state “saw its credit rating upgraded.”…Politifact HALF TRUE

As for this bit…

“In a new poll for The Hill, voters said the nation is worse, not better, off than four years ago by a 54-32 margin”

I admit this is a bit frustrating because it is SO DEMONSTRABLY FALSE!

Stephanie Cutter started a response…

“Let me just walk you through what life was like four years ago right now,” Ms. Cutter said. “In the six months before the president was elected, we lost 3.5 million jobs, wages had been going down for a decade, auto industry on the brink of failure. Our financial system, this is just about the time you’re seeing banks go under. All over America middle-class families were feeling it.”

I would have also added that our GDP had shrunk at a rate of more than 6% annually.

Now let me contrast for you…over the last twelve months we have sustained GDP growth of around 2%, created 1.8 million jobs, bank failures have shrunk to 38 this year from a high of 157, the US Auto industry is thriving and the housing market seems to have finally turned the corner. Are we better off…hell yes!

Now is it good enough…no! Would we be further along had the Republicans focused on fixing problems rather than “making Obama a one term President”…hell yes!

The Republican response has been to create gridlock, manufacture a debt ceiling crisis, fight to lower taxes for the wealthy even though they are at their lowest level as a % of GDP since WW II, propose to trash Medicare and replace it with vouchers and actually include a gold standard study in their party platform.

So are we better off now than four years ago…hell yes…will we be better off four years from now if the President is reelected…hell yes…should we send the Republicans in Congress home…hell yes!

The person who is behind the poll you cite, The Hill, is Republican operative Scott Rasmussen. He gets a ton of money from the GOP, so he’s pretty much obligated to provide the answers they want to see and publicize.

Kyle, you have one of the toughest jobs in Georgia. Defending the Republican party, in a state where the Republican governor and representatives have Georgia leading the country in bank failures, home defaults, and among the leaders in unemployment rates and poverty, must make you dread your daily writing assignments. At least a lot of the readership isn’t very well informed, thanks to the state being among the last in education.

He’s still waiting on Boehmer’s and McConnell’s jobs proposal! Mr Boehmer, where are the jobs? Mitt says he will create 12 M jobs (but 20M are unemployed according to Repub posters). I guess 8 M are just screwed! Oh, and what were the details of Romney’s jobs program?

Of course that is a bit counter productive since NC is a dead heat at 48% for each. Though you seem to need some help deciphering it Rove’s map has a decent format. See all those -’s in the toss up states? That’s how much Romney is behind.

In fact if you add up the solid, leaning and leading on Rove’s map Obama would draw 326 EV’s today…again could it change…maybe…is it likely…NOPE.

Morning, Kyle. Did you have happen to catch Chris Wallace’s program on Sunday? They all looked so sad about the Republican prospects of winning this election cycle. When you lose the FOX cheerleaders, you know you have problems.

Their point was that the Republican problem is that Obama is going to basically remind everyone of what October 2008 looked like and then successfully hang it all on the Republican Party as the logical outcome of their failed policies and philosophy… that Romney wants to re-create all for his personal benefit. It’s a message that resonates with independents and Republicans have done nothing to explain how this is not true.

So while I appreciate Mitt trying to give me permission to vote against my own best interests, thanks anyway, Mitt!

this is the policy of the dems that are in office now

How to catch wild pigs
There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some Exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist government.
In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a Strange question. He asked, ” Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”
The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke.”You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.
The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. While we continually lose our freedoms- just a little at a time.
One should always remember: There is no such thing as a free lunch!
And you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.
If you see that all of this wonderful government “help” is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to send this on to your friends.
If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably delete this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut!

“How do they think the majority of swing/battleground states where Obama currently leads in polls will reverse? Or is this just cheer-leading?”

Centrist nailed this one. Romney needed a good convention bump but didn’t get one. Romney needs a big shift in the swing states which is not yet happening. Romney’s last hope will be the debates. Romney is going to have to spell out his plans which he has been reluctant to do so far, he’ll have to go all in during the debates.

I doubt Obama will get much of a convention bounce but if he does Romney will be in real trouble.

Obama has to say more than “Bush did it.” That same rule also applies to Romney, he has to say more than “Obama didn’t fix it.”

JDW is wound up today over Ryan’s “lies”. Did he lie, not really in today’s vernacular, just put GOP spin on the facts just like the Dems do every time they open their mouths.

Obama’s frequent lies.

1) He is very frugal. He bases this on some columnist fudging the numbers and putting most of his spending back on Bush.
2) Romney is a felon for “maybe” not leaving Bain when he told the SEC he did leave.
3) That Romney said he wanted to fire people. (not exactly)
4. That Obamacare is going to bend the cost curve and reduce healthcare costs. (Blatantly false)
5. That he saved General Motors and that they would not exist today, if not for him.
6. That he pulled the troops out of Iraq (yes, right on schedule established by Bush)
7. That he ever tried to work with the GOP on healthcare.
8. That pulling 716 Billion out of Medicare will improve the program and extend its life.
9. That Bain Capital sucked out the profit and bankrupted companies leaving the employees unemployed. He never mentions that many of those companies asked to be rescued, and all of them would have probably closed, if not for Bain infusing them with cash and management resources.

Just a few of many which will repeated ad nauseum this week. I didn’t even get into the broken campaign promises of cutting the deficit in half or closing gitmo, or transparency, blah, blah, blah.

What is a Vulture Capitalist?

Glad you asked:

AMY GOODMAN: Governor Perry called Mitt Romney a “vulture capitalist.” Matt, what does that mean?

MATT TAIBBI: Well, [this is] how companies like Bain made their money. And a great example was a company that I went and visited—well, the place where it used to exist—KB Toys, which used to be headquartered out in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. They took over the company with like $18 million down. They financed the other $302 million. So that’s borrowed money that subsequently became the debt of KB Toys. This is an important distinction for people to understand. When they borrowed that money to take over that company, they didn’t have to pay it back, KB had to pay it back. Once they took over the company, they induced it to do a $120 million, quote-unquote, “dividend recapitalization,” which essentially means that the company had to cash in a bunch of shares and pay Bain and its investors a huge sum of money. And in order to finance that, they had to take out over $60 million in bank loans. So, essentially, you take over the company, you force them to make enormous withdrawals against their credit card, essentially, and pay the new owners of the company. And that’s essentially what they did. They took over a floundering company that was sort of in between and faced with threatening changes in the industry, and they forced them to cash out entirely and pay all their money to the new owners.

I think KB Toys’ biggest problem was not Bain Capital, but Walmart. It is hard to compete with Walmart, when you are paying that exorbitant mall rent and don’t have the buying power of the giant. Sounds like Bain just buried the corpse.

Is a Vulture Capitalist something like Vulture Governmentalist? You know the big government regime that takes over a bankrupt company, rewrites the bankruptcy laws, fleeces the investors and dealer network, and passes on part to the company to their friends in the union, then brags about how they saved the auto industry. When the Republicans ask, ”Are you better off than four years ago,” the Democrats should answer: “Who are you asking?” The fat cats that support the Romney campaign? Their profits are higher than ever. Are you asking the leaders of the financial institutions, whose skin was saved? Are you asking those, whose retirement income depends on the Dow Jones Index?

Or are you asking the GM workers, the employees of all the GM suppliers? Are you asking the millions who got new jobs thanks to the stimulus?

I know, you want to ask the unemployed. The unemployed who lost their jobs because of the Bush recession.

The best answer the Democrats can and will give is the following: The COUNTRY is better off than four years ago. Instead of contracting the economy is growing. Instead of losing hundreds of thousands of jobs each month, jobs are being created. The war in Iraq is over, the war in Afghanistan is ending. Gaddafi is dead, Obama bin Laden is dead, and so are dozens of high ranking terrorist leaders.

Now, the White House says it will no longer keep a cumulative tally of jobs created and saved by the stimulus. Instead, it will post only a count of jobs for each quarter.

And instead of counting only created and saved jobs, it will count any person who works on a project funded with stimulus money — even if that person was never in danger of losing his or her job.”

What will a new Republican Administration do differently from the last one?

Total Nonfarm Employment

Obama increase last month 163,000 which is more than 14 times greater than last Republican Administration’s average

Since 2/2010 increase of 4,001,000 employees

Last Republican Administration 1,095,000 / 8 years = 136,875 / yr or 11,406 / mo. (all government employees, added Department of Homeland Security)

Clinton 22,740,000 / 8 years = 2,842,500 / yr or 236,875 / mo.
Carter 2,584,000 / yr or 215,400 / mo.

They talk about Carter’s economic record, but he created not double or triple but almost 19 times more Total Nonfarm Jobs per month than the last Republican Administration’s average.

The Republicans are asking all of the people you named, plus many more you couldn’t name due to limited space. Some will answer yes; some will answer no. I’m worse off than 4 years ago, but that isn’t the main reason I’ll vote for Romney over Obama.
The time will soon come when a vote by Congress to increase the debt ceiling will be meaningless. The investors who buy our bonds and allow us to keep borrowing will eventually stop. Once that happens, we will be forced to finance government operations from current tax collections, and there won’t be enough to pay for everything. Question: Will we, as a country, get a balanced budget on our own terms, or will it be forced on us when no one wants to buy any more bonds? If Romney and Ryan are elected, MAYBE we can get our fiscal house in order. Maybe not, but at least there is a fighting chance of it. If Obama and Biden are re-elected, there is no chance.

In a video released Monday, Norris and his wife, Gina, warn that the US will face “socialism or something much worse” if Obama is re-elected in November…

…The couple says that in the 2008 election, 30 million evangelical Christians stayed home on voting day, allowing Obama to win the election by 10m votes. To prevent that from happening again, they encourage evangelical voters to “unite for god and country” and vote this November.

What we can say is that Romney’s largest deficit in the RCP average since Santorum dropped out of the race was 4.7 points on Aug. 12, the day after Paul Ryan was added to the ticket. “OK, I missed this. From Romney’s acceptance speech, attacking Obama:

His trillion dollar cuts to our military will eliminate hundreds of thousands of jobs, and also put our security at greater risk;

His $716 billion cut to Medicare to finance Obamacare will both hurt today’s seniors, and depress innovation – and jobs – in medicine.

And his trillion-dollar deficits will slow our economy, restrain employment, and cause wages to stall.

OK, so deficit spending hurts the economy — unless it’s spending on the military (or on the medical-industrial complex), in which case cutting spending destroys jobs.”

Rasmussen which is now based on post Republican convention polling has already seen Romney’s “bump” decline by 2%, Romney +2, more like a small bounce for Romney in that poll.

Gallup includes 4 days post convention and their poll hasn’t budged so far, Obama still +1. Gallup also had a poll up yesterday that showed Romney’s speech wasn’t very well received.

Incumbent presidents are rarely defeated. When they are, the writing is on the wall long before the political conventions. It is unlikely that Obama the incumbent will lose by a squeaker at this point.

Also, remember when Carter and Bush 1 lost, they didn’t have the liberal media backing. Carter lost the media when he beat their favorite liberal Ted Kennedy in the contested primaries. Bush was a Republican, so never had media backing.

This is not to say the media can cover up debate gaffes, or have much effect on turnout – both of which could possibly hurt Obama. IMO, neither is likely to overcome Obama’s current advantage.

Congress is going to either be divided or Republican and Obama will never face the voters again, so an Obama second term looks to quickly turn into a lame duck political gridlock.

Ok, when is the last time a Democrat torched or blew up a christian church or physically attacked people based on their religion?

When was the last time a Democrat wanted to force Muslim or Jewish beliefs on EVERY other religion by having their theory of creation forced on school children or having manuscript portions inscribed in our public places?

When was the last time a Democrat howled about the “War on Hannukah” or the “War on Ramadan” because a couple of christians complained about having to listen to their holiday music EVERY freakin where?

Nope. just in cases of rape and incest. I don’t believe it’s an appropriate form of Birth Control otherwise, if you’re gonna do the nasty, you should plan better and take easy precautions.

2. Tax the hell out the rich ( paying most of it now)
Nope, just tax the hell out of the “job creators” creating jobs in China and Tiawan to avoid paying Americans a living wage.

3. open borders and complete amnesty
Somebody has to cut the grass and dig the ditches, Americans are entirely too “exceptional” to be bothered with such endeavours… (this includes wingnuts as well).

4. Kill fossil fuel , even without an abundant, affordable replacement
A laughable lie at best, I just want us to be prepared when fossil fuels finally run out, or the mideast goes even more bat$hit crazy…
5. Kill right to work states
Nope, I could care less about this issue.

6. Gut the military about 1/3
Nope, not the military, just the military industrial complex. You could cut out 1/3 of it’s cost by eliminating and making things more efficient, and not have to shrink the military one little bit.
7. Finish getting anything ” Christian” out of any public place
Nope, just the fanatic christians who feel their beliefs are the only ones who belong in the public square.
8. Total ban on guns.

I think we’ll hear a lot about the fact that the Republican convention was centered around three lies: 1) The fact that Obama statement “you didn’t build that” to businesses was taken completely out of context in his speech which taken as a whole reminded business owners that the government helped them build their businesses by providing roads, bridges, educated workers, and in many cases, (such as the building where the RNC convention was held) used taxpayer funds to build the buildings that businesses use. 2) That Obama “raided” Medicare for $716 billion when it is actually a savings, and 3) That Obama took “work” out of welfare. All are demonstrable lies. I think the Dems should discredit those who continually repeat those lies by showing evidence.

Forward! Forward, (all that previous prosperity, only benefited the prepared, the workers, savers, and investors) because we are not going back to the way it was. Everyone did not prosper in the past and I’m not going back. But, my loyal subjects,we must look backwards for a minute, however. My good friend Bill Clinton, (who once said to Sen Kennedy, that I would have been carrying their bags a few years ago), explained to you what we should do with the economy. He told you we need to return, that is backwards, to his economy, (the one that benefited from the dot.com bubble, which no longer exists). (Since I have had little success with the economy), I’ve listened and am going to follow Bill’s excellent advice and guidance, (or make you think I will, til after the election) and return this economy to prosperity. Just like Pres Clinton said, we must go forward and embrace(backward) his economic policies. Forward to the past, my loyal friends. Four more years! Because I care! They call it Obamacare, because I care! I won before, and I will win again. Would you like to hear a little Al Green, I>>>>>>>>>>>>>I>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>, well, Michelle says I can’t sing tonight, too bad for y’all. Four more years!!!!! “1) The fact that Obama statement “you didn’t build that” to businesses was taken completely out of context in his speech which taken as a whole reminded business owners that the government helped them build their businesses by providing roads, bridges, educated workers, and in many cases, (such as the building where the RNC convention was held) used taxpayer funds to build the buildings that businesses use.”

Any context one prefers still has Obama singing the praises of Government……..didn’t hear him once mention the blood/sweat and tears of the INDIVIDUAL that risked it all to start the dang thing did we??

And Lynnie……where did that benevolent gov’t get the money to build all those things?? That’s right, from those businesses that someone took the time to get up and running……it certainly WASN’T the gov’t…….

3)…….the fact remains that for now the work requirement has been relaxed…..that’s just fact.

2)…….that 715 has to come from somewhere, it doesn’t just evaporate into thin air like they convinced you it does. It doesn’t get paid to the providers……and how Lynnie do they get paid??? Think they are going to just sit back and work for a whole lot less? Hardly……YOU will make up that 715 in some other form or fashion, and it will be in the form of an INCREASE, not a savings.

Works that way at the other blogs on the AJC as well in regards to those who participate within the rules.

Bill Clinton To Obama Camp: Paint Romney As Right-Wing Ideologue, Not Flip-Flopper
Sahil Kapur September 3, 2012, 8:04 AM

That’s according to an article in the next issue of The New Yorker on the complex, evolving relationship between the two most recent standard-bearers of the Democratic Party. Ryan Lizza reports that the ex-president offered his counsel to top Obama campaign aides David Axelrod and Jim Messina in his Harlem office last November.

Clinton’s logic: running against a conservative ideologue would help energize liberal voters and donors — and the flip-flopper charge could backfire. The Obama campaign seems to have taken the advice to heart — building its case around the message that voters should take him Romney his word about the conservative policies he has backed.

The passage from Lizza’s New Yorker article:

Messina brought a PowerPoint slide show and briefed the former President on campaign strategy. At the time, the Obama team was alternating between two arguments about Romney. One presented him as an inveterate flip-flopper, the other as a right-wing ideologue who would return the country to a pre-New Deal dystopia. Clinton advised them to stick with the second argument. It would help with fund-raising, he said; liberal donors would be more motivated to fight a fierce conservative.

Having managed good sized businesses both in the US and Europe, I am pretty sure I got a good handle. See when you get money back that you would have normally spent that REDUCES your costs. So when your insurance company is forced by Obamacare to spend at least 80% of your premium on care otherwise they give you the money back…that reduces your cost.

If you have such a great “handle”, your version of handing out taxpayer money is pretty lame. It is about as smart as trying to blame Bush for four years of failure with Obama.

You had better go to Washington with your “handle” and tell them what to do with a 16 trillion debt. Please don’t tell them to raise taxes and then try to give some back to tax;payers for a “free” stimulus or some other rediculous scheme that has already failed one time.

Maybe Obama will talk about the insourcing buill that the Repubs refused to pass because it would cut off benefits for outsourcing by Bain and others, and whose fault is that?????????????

“”"”"”"”"”"Under existing law, employers may take tax deductions for the costs associated with moving jobs out of the country. The proposed legislation would have eliminated that, and used the resulting new revenue to fund a 20 percent tax credit for the costs companies run up “insourcing” labor back into the U.S.The bill failed by a 56-42. A count of 60 was required to end discussion and move to a final vote.To further push the issue, Democrats held a conference call with employees from Sensata Technologies, an electronics hardware manufacturer that plans to close its Freeport, Ill., plant at the end of the year and move those operations to China. Democrats say 150 people will be laid off in the process. Sensata, formerly known as the Sensors and Controls division of Texas Instruments, was spun off to Bain in 2006 for a reported $3 billion.”"”"”"”"”"”"

Hey Mike @ 11:07 pm,

If that’s the case, should we start brushing up on our Chinese, because if the libs stay in charge that long, it will be a requirement by then.

You do realize that if the income taxes on “the rich” are increased significantly (which is where the progressives plan takes us) that instead of making an income, “the rich” will simply stop making $. They’ll close their businesses and those who used to work for them will be out of work and BOTH will be living off their savings and investments. When that happens, you can bet that the taxes will be increased on investment income substantially, and when that happens, “the rich” will protect their money and just live off of their savings like everyone else. Explain to me how this eventuality will benefit the lower 80%? Who do you think will last longer living off their savings?

You’ll be asking yourself:

Hard to move the needle from the middle, gotta pull from the left or the right to make it move. People in the middle make no contribution to the impetus needed to change the status quo. Kinda like someone on here talking about growing the economy from the middle out. Ain’t gonna happen.

The middle, may include some future job creators, great thinkers, investment capitalist, inventors, and people with the vision, but they aren’t capable of leading us out of this great economic malaise. The people that already have those skills, ability, and wealth have to step forward and lead the way. We have to remove the boot of government off their necks and give them some certainty on where taxes are headed and the economy is moving, to get them back into the growth and investment mode.

Del

Have mentioned several times over here that while I think neither party governs worth a damn, that I lean left.

So while your crying, what else would you like to tell people about me?

Again, bless your hurting heart.

How did the meeting with the Cox’s go?

hahahahahah

Have a great day

“You do realize that if the income taxes on “the rich” are increased significantly (which is where the progressives plan takes us) that instead of making an income, “the rich” will simply stop making $. “

Funny that the rich people in other countries with substantially higher taxes continue to work and invest instead of using this simple recipe for living without income.

Del, thanks, I picked that up some time ago. Most posters that claim to be in the middle are actually left wingers. A right thinking person is usually proud of their political philosophy. Dems, Libs, Prog, Forward thinkers, socialist, they just keep reinventing themselves and changing what they call each other trying to fool people, as they know that only about 22% of American’s approve of their leftist philosophy.

Roosevelt and the Democrats did not end the Great Depression, World War II did

Fail. US GDP reached pre-Depression levels in 1936.

By 1936, the main economic indicators had regained the levels of the late 1920s, except for unemployment, which remained high at 11%, although this was considerably lower than the 25% unemployment rate seen in 1933. In the spring of 1937, American industrial production exceeded that of 1929 and remained level until June 1937. In June 1937, the Roosevelt administration cut spending and increased taxation in an attempt to balance the federal budget.[87] The American economy then took a sharp downturn, lasting for 13 months through most of 1938. Industrial production fell almost 30 per cent within a few months and production of durable goods fell even faster. Unemployment jumped from 14.3% in 1937 to 19.0% in 1938, rising from 5 million to more than 12 million in early 1938.[88] Manufacturing output fell by 37% from the 1937 peak and was back to 1934 levels.[89]

NOTE: Read what happened in June 1937. That is what Republicans want to do to us — it’s called austerity.

LOL. Mr Boag is definitely NOT rich. What a silly thing to say. Think about it — Having 70% of a million dollars is better than having 85% of zero dollars.

You silly silly man.

Wrong.

When rich people are taxed more they invest MORE in their business.

Which creates job etc etc.

When given tax breaks the rich.

buy Yachts and car elevators.

This does not create job except for the yacht builders.

Economics lesson over.
