Good evening from Tampa, where Mitt Romney has just become the official presidential nominee of the Republican Party. New Jersey’s votes put him over the top in the alphabetical-order roll call of state delegations. He might have gotten there a couple of states earlier if not for a smattering of votes for Ron Paul, including three of Georgia’s 76 votes; one additional Georgia delegate was reported as unassigned, meaning Romney received 72 votes from a state whose March primary was won by Newt Gingrich.
Paul Ryan was confirmed as the vice presidential nominee, and now we’ll have a brief recess and then several speeches in a lineup packed due to the cancellation of Monday’s agenda. Among the speakers are Rick Santorum (on the welfare reform he championed in the 1990s and the Obama administration’s recent move to weaken it), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Democrat-turned-Republican Artur Davis, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Ann Romney and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
I’ll be commenting on the speeches here, so feel free to join in below.

When will you trolls realize it isn’t Mitt Romney’s job to feed you?
He’s smarter than you. He’s richer than you. He knows that releasing any more tax returns will not get him a single vote from you.

How’s that “social mobility” during the Obozo regime?
Mostly downward.

Yeah, who cares about Mitt’s faith?
8. “In France, for instance, I’m told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past.” This policy does not exist, but seven-year marriage contracts are a plot point in the “Memories of Earth” science fiction series by Mormon author Orson Scott Card. Incomes have dropped more during Obozo’s “recovery” than they did during the actual recession.
Social mobility.

How can I be specific if Obama’s hiding his dirty secrets? He’s HIDING them
So you got nothing.
So Jesse Jackson had to show his birth certificate when he ran for President in 1984
If he would have gotten the nomination they would have. Maybe not though.
The Republican party had a little credibility back then. The nuts hadn’t taken over yet.

Romney turned over his entire inheritance
LOL, Tib. It looks like you are admitting the facts are REALLY just troublesome to YOU. Mitt turned over his inheritance. So Mitt inherited some wealth, eh? If not, what did he give to BYU?

Well, looks like the speakers last night were really good. The honest bloggers who post here thought it was quite a night. Wish I could have watched them, a talented successful group….
.Another way to tell how successful the Republicans were last night, is the Dem reaction of the “xtremes” here. They are knocking themselves out, kicking and screaming, quoting other lefties and making personal remarks about the speakers.
So what’s new? Nothing really but liberals are truly delirious The lady with the cap lock takes the prize. She may get a spot on Saturday Night Live.. Go girl!

Humpty,
Yes, that one. You’ll note my lack of giving Snyder full credit in my post. The improvement in Michigan’s unemployment is multifactorial, and you know it as well as me. However, What I CAN say is that the unemployment rate in MI has continued to drop EVEN WHILE Snyder is cleaning the house financially. It’s far from over. MI has a long way to go, and let’s be honest: we, the taxpayers will NEVER get ur money back from our investment in GM. We are ALL now paying for MI’s job improvement…and with money that we don’t have. And the stock is still 25% of what it must be JUST TO BREAK EVEN, but I will capitulate that the government’s involvement DID improve Detroit’s short-term status to a significant degree, but–here come those words again–AT WHAT COST?
The reality may well have been that even though it would hurt Detroit more, that if GM/Chrysler were allowed to file BK, that there just might have been opportunity for other small companies to move in and make cars better. I appreciate Ford’s not taking the bailout, understanding that they were in a. Enter position than the others, but they still COULD HAVE. I just bought a Ford truck over the weekend, showing support with my $.
Having been through a BK myself, I KNOW that difficult/painful decisions are necessary to get out of a financial mess. Snyder’s making those unapologetically, and yet the unemployment is still dropping despite them.

Thanks for the exchange. While Ford did not take a bail out, they did accept very low interest loans to assist in revamping several facilities as well as the Ford CEO lobbying along with GM and Chyrsler for the bailout. They were also aided by the fact that the many suppliers were helped financially.
I give them credit for not going that route, but they have received direct and indirect help due to the bailout.
They didn’t pull that commercial about the bailouts because it was factual.

Once again we have to simplify things for your GED educated mind. If someone gives something away they don’t have it. Let me explain: If you have two gub’ment subsidized packages of cheese and you give one to Edna then you only have one but you feel better because you helped someone out. You feel so good you got an idea. Why don’t I give away the other package of cheese to feel even warmer and get a big hug. Now wasn’t that a warm feeling? Oops! I have nothing left to eat – guess I will have to get a job doing whatever I can in this Obama economy but I can find something if I try real hard. TWO YEARS LATER –
Despite this economy that is still in the toilet I have made it out of the poor house without Obama’s handout and I feel like helping others still. You know a hand up – not a handout. Unlike Jeremiah Wright I say “God Bless America”.

Hint: The Lost Decade.
Besides, though you do not remotely care, it was merely the fourth in a row for the crushing of the American middle class.
