RNC 2012: Tuesday night thread – roll call, Ann Romney, Chris Christie

Good evening from Tampa, where Mitt Romney has just become the official presidential nominee of the Republican Party. New Jersey’s votes put him over the top in the alphabetical-order roll call of state delegations. He might have gotten there a couple of states earlier if not for a smattering of votes for Ron Paul, including three of Georgia’s 76 votes; one additional Georgia delegate was reported as unassigned, meaning Romney received 72 votes from a state whose March primary was won by Newt Gingrich.

Paul Ryan was confirmed as the vice presidential nominee, and now we’ll have a brief recess and then several speeches in a lineup packed due to the cancellation of Monday’s agenda. Among the speakers are Rick Santorum (on the welfare reform he championed in the 1990s and the Obama administration’s recent move to weaken it), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, Democrat-turned-Republican Artur Davis, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Ann Romney and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

I’ll be commenting on the speeches here, so feel free to join in below.

Ok, get rid of the government and see how much freedom and liberty you have.

No private property laws? Cool, the guy with the biggest gun gets to take all your stuff so you can live on what? Dirt is edible, right?

Whatever you do Finn, don’t discuss the economy, unemployment, the debt or deficit. You are a liberal so you MUST discuss birtherism, Romney’s tax returns from ten years ago, Cayman Island accounts, Todd Akin, and most importantly, Romney’s pet dog in a kennel on top of a car.

Those topics, after all, are what American’s really care about.

Don’t look behind the curtain! There is nothing to see behind the curtain!

They are asking to be declared a natural disaster area, to allow them to be eligible for federal loans, etc. Every gov does this every time something unusual happens in their state. They will not be standing on some police car, whining about where are the Feds, when they haven’t asked the Feds for assistance, like Nagin did.

That is not the constitutional definition of what government should mean. Which is to protect our rights. Restraining government was why our founder’s wrote the constitution. We should remind the socialist libs of that fact often, as they do tend to forget it far too conveniently every waking moment apparently.

Not to worry, brucie will never talk about his dear leader’s handling of the economy, unemployment, the debt or deficit… OR those two wars he whines about all the time that obama and the democrats could have ended but chose to continue spending all that money on. Let alone will brucie like being reminded that his dear leader called one of those wars, GOOD!

What I meant by that is obviously if three people come together and form a government, no matter how they limit it, it will intrude on some of the things they felt like they could do before the government was formed.

Yes, the founders tried their best to limit Government. Obama has said many times that is what he dislikes about the Constitution, is that it limits what Gov can do, but does not require Gov to do anything. He thinks the Gov should be required to feed the poor and provide them with insurance, free cell phones, EBT cards, etc.

Kyle, don’t repeat a Romney campaign lie; you should know better! Obama has not “weakened” the welfare reform enacted in the Clinton administration. He responded to the pleas of state governors, including Republicans, to allow the states more flexibility in administering the work/study requirements.

The highlights of this evening will be the speeches of Ann Romney and Governor Fatso. In preparation for her attempt to “connect” with women voters, Mrs. Romney has been shopping for clothes at Costco, and serving home-made cookies to some of the delegates.

I’m not sure of Governor Fatso’s preparations; a heavy meal, I suppose. He’s sure to highlight his record of fiscal responsibility in New Jersey, but I doubt he’ll mention the results of his “responsible” agenda: New Jersey’s unemployment is the 4th highest among the states, higher even than Michigan’s.

Just a reminder to commentors about lineage. President Obama’s father was born in Kenya. Mrs. Obama’s father was born in the USA. Romney’s father was born in Mexico. Mrs. Romney’s father was born in Wales.

The speeches are somewhat interesting. I would have liked to have seen John Kasich speak. But earlier today I was working and listening to the delegations on tv call out their delegate votes and award them to Romney one by one. Could that stuff possibly be any more of a bore? All 50 of them going through that seems like just a monumental waste of time. I would have rather suffered through Chinese water torture. Sheesh. Good thing I changed the channel after just a few moments of that.

Yes it is and thank goodness that state of mind is not one that is necessarily one of the left or the right, but a combination of ideals, people, religions, races, greeds etc, etc.

Both sides attempt to monopolize the meaning and their sheep fall right into place, however it is great that it isn’t one side or the other.

Oh my God. The kook left at its worst. Funny how they want to arrest anyone and everyone in the W administration but no one in the current administration which continued the Iraq war and continues the Afgh war. So were they really anti- war? Or just anti-W?

Police in Tampa stopped a dozen anti-war protesters from entering an event attended by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice after the group said it intended to arrest her for war crimes.
The protesters from Code Pink carried handcuffs Tuesday and tried to enter a performing arts center. Rice was attending an event in conjunction with the Republican National Convention. They said they wanted to make a citizen’s arrest of Rice, who was Secretary of State when the Iraq War started.

The officers told the protesters to leave because they were on private property. They went back to the sidewalk and several lay down under sheets made to look like they were blood-splattered.

The group says it will try to arrest other members of the George W. Bush administration.

It has been debunked and called outright FALSE…well, everywhere! In every newspaper, on all legitimate news networks (notice–Faux News is NOT Legitimate). You look like fools! Sanatarium, Robme–all Republicans are lying about welfare reform now. The only people that believe you are the knuckle draggers–and they’re in your party and are gonna vote Republican anyway! This LIE should be an embarrassment to you–it is an insult to the intelligence ofl Americans. Because everybody knows that this “Welfare Work Requirement Gutting” lie is a LIE. Democrats are gonna keep pounding the FACT that this is a LIE. Fact checkers say “PANTS ON FIRE”. You guys have completely lost your minds. Does anyone in your party know what a LIE is anymore? I guess when you lie enough, you can’t tell the truth anymore.

Do you have to guess? Those protestors in Tampa are Anti-Bush, continuing their hate against a president who led us through the worst of times.

You don’t have to look for them just in Tampa. Their sentments creep into this blog and others. For me, that puts them right in with the KKK, the Black Panthers and drug cartels as those who do great damage to the USA.. They should be arrested for endangering the lives of others.

It was a rhetorical question. Of course I know they are simply anti-Bush. The day he left office is the day they up and disappeared into obscurity.

The irony of course is that its Obama who has committed numerous armed drone attacks against civilian villages in Pakistan- rendering of course numerous civilian casualties. If anyone is really doing anything that can be considered an atrocity or war crime it would be the bombing of civilian targets. It would be Obama that a serious case of war crimes could possibly be established.

Naw. McCain to me was a major disappointment. Washington had corrupted the man. He had been there way too long and I think Washington just rots people at the core. And McCain had little if any private sector experience to my knowledge. He was stale and just a Wash insider in my opinion.

Romney and Ryan are exciting because Romney has actually accomplished things and actually understands the economy and business. He has succeeded in several walks of life and not just as a politician. And Ryan understands the danger of our escalating debt crisis as well as or better than anyone.

Be honest. Romney’s executive experience dominates Obama’s limited experiences. And as for Joe Biden good God. The man is a walking, talking asshat of a joke. He is a national embarrassment.

As for Romney I wouldn’t let the social conservative aspect bother me if I were you. I don’t see Romney as giving a flip about abortion and stuff like that. I see him as being more focused on the economy, the debt, etc. And I think most cons right now are much more focused on the economy and the debt than the social issues. Personally I’m not that concerned about abortion, gay rights, etc. My issue is limiting the size and scope of the federal govt, getting the debt under control, and restoring economic growth. I’m much more Libertarian about the other issues and I suspect Romney is the same. One thing is for certain. If he does become potus I don’t think his priority is going to be social issues- its going to be getting the economy going and the debt under control.
