From The Fix at the Washington Post (headline: “Seniors [heart] Paul Ryan”), a result that cannot be received well at Obama 2012 headquarters:
Grandma isn’t scared of Paul Ryan.
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows 41 percent of Americans view the new GOP vice presidential nominee favorably, while 37 percent rate him unfavorably — slightly improved from last week’s polling.
Among seniors, though, the numbers are even better for Ryan: 50 percent favorable and 35 percent unfavorable. Fully one-third of seniors say they have a strongly favorable view of the Wisconsin congressman, while one-quarter have a strongly unfavorable view.
In fact, those seniors whose view of Ryan is “strongly favorable” virtually tie all those who view him unfavorably to any degree, 33 percent to 35 percent. This suggests seniors don’t buy Democrats’ false attacks that Ryan and Mitt Romney would change the deal for current retirees.
For the record, that “slightly improved” standing for Ryan among all age groups is a move from a net minus-3 to a net plus-4. Meanwhile, the ranks of the undecided fell by 17 percentage points. That means more than two-thirds of those who settled on an opinion of Ryan during the past week now view him favorably. (No breakdown of seniors’ opinion in the earlier poll is available, so we have no trend for their views.)
More broadly, President Obama’s lead over Romney in the Real Clear Politics average of polls has fallen from 4.7 percentage points the day after Romney introduced Ryan as his running mate to 1.5 points today.

You may be reading too much into my remarks. I just didn’t want Hillbilly to give anybody ideas. I realized at the time that I myself may have given the same idea I warned against; I started not to post for that reason.
“Conservative” would apply to me. I can’t find “conservitard” or “libtard” at dictionary.com, and I doubt either one is in any other actual (as opposed to “libtard” or “conservitard”) dictionary. I agree wholeheartedly with your 2:23 post, although you might want to switch the “libtard” and “conservitard” in your handle back and forth in your later posts.
Personally, I hate the name-calling of the public figures as well, whether it’s Myth Robme, Obozo, Nathan Steal, Nasty Pelosi, or whatever else. While I did make an over-the-top remark at Finn several months ago (apologies, Finn), I decided long before Kyle’s crackdown that I wouldn’t do that again, and I haven’t. I wonder who wants to join me in the lack of name-calling?

Obama and his handlers would not be using the false attack/smear campaigning about Romney not having paid income tax, is a felon, Mediscare, etc. if it didn’t work. They must know that more people will believe enough not to vote for him than those who see the attacks/smears for what they are.
This has been the modus operendi along with giving government benefits, tax exemptions, bailouts, and avenues for illegal votes to win. It is part of the power of incumbency, and looks to be working well enough to get re-elected. The liberal media, of course, is going along even if they have to sometimes hold their nose – they have a very high tolerance for Democratic party stink.

Yeah, an effective rate of 13%. Thus proving my point, idiot. The chips are stacked for people who don’t work for a living. That is, capital gains are now taxed at a different rate than income. Why??

Am I wrong to doubt the poster who calls himself Centrist when it’s quite clear by the things he writes and says that he’s far to the right: For example:

You are right, the tax code is stacked in favor of those that save and invest, rather than those who consume.
Somewhere in time, the Congress decided that was good for the country. It seems to have worked so far; we live in a country with the highest standard of living in the world. We still have the most progressive tax structure around as well. Guess you wish to change that?

His refusal to do so doesn’t make any sense and so we can’t but conclude that there’s something there he doesn’t want us to see. As to your comment that he’d be an idiot to run if there were, I agree, but as I’m sure you’ll also agree, there is no shortage of idiocy in our Republic.”
And you interpret that as me saying that I want to him to release his tax returns so I can find out how rich he is?
You’re even dumber than I thought you were (and that’s saying something). Other message boards have an “ignore” function where you can opt to not see other posters’ posts. It’s a pity this one doesn’t.

The line between labeling and name calling may be hazier than you think. If someone repeatedly lies, try saying “That’s a lie. That’s a lie, too. That’s also a lie.” Leave “You’re a liar” to lesser people.
As for Centrist, what’s obvious to you (far to the right) may not be obvious to someone else (e.g., Centrist). I described myself as “conservative” earlier, but I assure you that I don’t fit most of the liberals’ descriptions of “conservative” that I’ve seen on this blog. “Correctly” labeling things is fine, but don’t fall for hubris while you’re doing it. There is a chance, however slight, that your label is incorrect. One possibility worth considering: Centrist distinguishes between conservative media (e.g., Fox, WSJ) and liberal media. I didn’t see that distinction in your post, although you may have thought something along that line.

And of course the prevailing issue, that we’re even asking these questions. Here’s a guy, born into money, given money to start his business, made millions, but he isn’t comfortable telling us how he did it. What I expect out of a president is not a person who takes every shortcut he can to avoid paying taxes. It’s not wealth envy….I work as a teacher, so it’s fairly obvious I’m not looking to get rich. I won’t begrudge someone who does, but again, I expect a president who will display a bit of character.
Romney has never wanted for anything, I don’t feel he is at all relatable to me, and I think the only reason he wants to be president is because he feels it’s owed to him and it’s his turn.
Obama ain’t perfect, but at least I get the sense that he talks straight (even if I don’t like what he says). Mitt has taken every position on every position. He nor Ryan are willing to get into specifics for their plans, and simply expect them to trust us.

Still, it helps that people don’t HATE Ryan
No, we just know he’s a fraud.
Here is Ryan in 2002. Here’s how Rep. Paul Ryan defended the stimulus bill proposed by President Bush that year (h/t MSNBC’s “Up With Chris). He sounds a little bit like Robert Reich:
What we’re trying to accomplish is to pass the kinds of legislation that when they’ve passed in the past have grown the economy and gotten people back to work. In recessions unemployment lags on well after a recovery has taken place. We’ve got to get the engine of economic growth growing again because we now know, because of recession, we don’t have the revenues that we wanted to, we don’t have the revenues we need … We’ve got to get Americans back to work. Then the surpluses come back, then the jobs come back. That is the constructive answer we’re trying to accomplish here on, yes, a bipartisan basis. I urge members to drop the demagoguery and to pass this bill to help us work together to get the American people back to work and help those people who’ve lost their jobs …What we have been trying to do starting in October and into December and now is to try and get people back to work. The things we’re trying to pass in this bill are the time-tested, proven, bipartisan solutions to get businesses to stop laying off people, to hire people back, and to help those people who have lost their jobs.

False attack of Ryan’s plan? What “false” attack? It’s a fact that the Ryan plan turns Medicare into a voucher system. Fact. Not false attack. As far as Grannies who heart Ryan, those are the gullible, selfish Republican voting seniors who believe the lie that ONLY people under 55 will suffer under the Ryan plan. They don’t give a crap about the younger generation getting screwed out of their healthcare. They figure they’ll get theirs and to hell with anyone else. Well, they’ll get theirs, alright. Any senior that thinks Robme and Lyin aren’t going to touch their precious Medicare benefits are truly the world’s biggest fools. They’ll be thrown under the bus in favor of tax cuts for the wealthy starting on day one. Robme and Lyin have promised these greedy, decrepit Republican voting seniors that they won’t touch their Medicare, hoping they’ll fall for it. They might. These are seniors that, once they’ve climbed up the ladder, they pull it up quickly behind them so no one else can climb up. If they fall for this creepy little scam, they get what they deserve.

dang. oil companies!!! Gas companies!!!!! keep yer hands off my land!!!
According to the U.S. Constitution’s Fifth Amendment, in order to pursue eminent domain, the land must be taken for “public use” and the private property owners must receive “just compensation.”…Traditionally, the “public use” provision referred to projects like roads, schools, parks and other public facilities that could be directly used by all. However, the meaning of “public use” has been loosely interpreted in recent years. The controversial Kelo v. City of New London (2005) is credited with broadening the interpretation of “public use.” In this case, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of New London, deciding that the city could take private property and give it to another private entity for “economic development.” The Court decided that this met the “public use” provision of the Fifth Amendment. But despite taking the land and spending millions of taxpayer dollars on the proposed project, the plan never came to fruition and nothing was constructed. Now it seems that the oil and gas industry is capitalizing on this this precedent-setting case.

The public understands that neither party is advocating changes to Medicare that would impact the benefits of those already 65 years old, and those who will be 65 years old within the next years.
But our seniors are not selfish, they want everyone else to have the same piece of mind in knowing they will have health care coverage in their old age, and for the rest of their lives. They understand that future generations will not have same security.
