Here we go: Cynthia McKinney is running for Congress again

A tough slog for Democrats in Georgia may be getting even tougher, thanks to one of their old friends: Cynthia McKinney has filed paperwork to run for Congress in Georgia’s 4th District as a member of the Green Party.

The incumbent, Hank “capsized Guam” Johnson, has made more than his fair share of gaffes since defeating McKinney in 2006 and entering Congress. But compared to her, he’s a statesman of the highest order.

Still, it took a runoff for Johnson to beat her in that year’s primary, and even then she won 41 percent of the vote. This will be a general election, and 41 percent of the Democratic vote would be enough to keep Johnson from winning a majority. The GOP candidate last time out, Liz Carter, won 25 percent against Johnson. Neither she nor any other Republican will win this heavily Democratic district. But the GOP candidate will get enough votes to make it tough for Johnson to beat McKinney — or (shudder) vice-versa — without a runoff. McKinney would need just a quarter of the vote, or about one-third of those who usually vote for Democrats.

Now, I would still put Johnson as the favorite in the race. But if McKinney gets any traction at all, Georgia Democrats will have to put into the 4th District resources that normally could be used elsewhere. As you may recall, Georgia Democrats aren’t exactly flush with money to begin with. The Republican in the 4th District might not have a shot at winning the race, but he or she, along with McKinney, might be able to make the Democrats sweat over a safe seat — the loss of which would be just plain humiliating.

Speaking of humiliating, a word of advice for the Green Party: If you want most Americans to think your party belongs anywhere near the mainstream of politics, stop associating with the likes of McKinney. Latching onto her, in the belief that bad name ID is better than no name ID, is more humiliating for you than you may realize.

The only thing dumber than Cynthia will be the voters in the 4th District if she actually wins.

Compared to her, a steaming pile of cow dung is a statesman of the highest order.

Hillbilly D,

Glad to see you here. Josef has been trying to “sweet talk” you into returning to that OTHER blog.

We can’t have that ! No way! Ignore him, nice fellow that he is.

Anddddd… I see someone has already introduced Pres. Bush here. Wouldn’t you know. Some of the brainwashed are hopeless.

Sadly, we still have people here in this district who will blindly vote for Ms. McKinney.

We can only hope she and Hank Johnson will cannibalize one another so that a worthy candidate from another party can win.

Don’t really think Josef has been trying to do that. I actually think he’s about the only person who figured out why I left. If there were more like him over there, they’d probably have a lot better blog. And it is good to see him come in here occasionally. Gives a chance to discuss things that would never come up, otherwise.

As for going back over there, to loosely paraphrase, Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce, “I’ll blog there no more, forever”. And anybody who knows anything about folks in my part of the world knows that when we say forever, that’s exactly what we mean.

I’ve gotten to where I spend most of my blogging time on the baseball blogs. There’s actually some pretty in-depth discussions on those. About the biggest conflicts there are between the sabermatricians and us old folks who still favor good old fashion bird-dogging and advanced scouting.

The Fourth District has moved on from the McKinney era. I was there when she fought to keep a polling place open at an over-crowded polling place. That was a good look… But I was also watching when she made some very public FOO-PAHS on and off the Hill.
Bottom line is I voted for McKinney…even in Her loss to Majette because it was good for the district at the time and WE NEEDED THAT seat vacated by Henry “sit down and Shut-up” Hyde on the international Affairs and armed services committee. We lost both seats in that election and because of Denise “I really didn’t want the job anyway” Majette’s one term.
But that is the same reason I am voting against her now. We simply can’t afford to lose congressional seniority AGAIN. So I for one hope she does not run as a Green party candidate or any other of the district.

It would appear that the US Congress is about the only position Ms. McKinney is qualified for … that really says something. We moved out of Dekalb after years of her taxation and no representation.

Something is wrong here. I spotted this quote in the news story: “Tracked down at her mother’s home Thursday by a reporter from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, McKinney declined to comment and ordered the reporter off the property.” Do you really expect anyone to believe that Cynthia McKinney told a reporter to go away? That stretches credibility beyond the breaking point.

She has a PHD now so I’m sure she can. Maybe she is just passionate about congress. I will say this. I live in the 4th district and Hank Johnson has been a ghost since he took the office. At least Cynthia held regular town hall meetings to keep her constituents informed.

Hillbilly D,

I think the music keeps Josef going and a few bloggers there are not totally warped (over at you know where). . I hope he visits here more often.

I’m surprised that you find baseball blogs entertaining, even with ” good ol’ fashion bird-dogging and advance scouting”. My stops at an occasional one only brings forth “Go Braves!”. But that is only because I support the Braves but don’t keep up with statistics, etc. That makes me a dud with the REAL fans.

What sign you ask?

Many, including why Dekalb County is a failure on almost any measure and why the rest of GA disagree’s with the metro area on most subjects.

But keep voting Democrat. Those Republicans are old white guys.

Kyle, much of the time I don’t agree with you but the above statement is the most accurate thing I have ever read here.
If she wins another term, Georgia will be even more of a laughing stock than now.

Come on now, Hank was tired that day he said Guam might tip over. Plus he was putting forth a metaphor about man’s inhumanity to man or something. And Cynthia, well she was tired of getting confused with old Cynthia Tucker that used to work here at the AJC, this pillar of truth and objectivity. You just can’t tell if she’s looking at you or the guy standing next to you, that’s all. Bunch o racists.

Hey Kyle: Hank Johnson, David Scott, John Lewis have sponsored jobs fairs for the community, and have held work shops to put people back to work.

At least the Dem dont just talk, there were plenty rep looking for work at those events on the other hand the rep who represent this state and their districts only care about getting re election.

Please name any job fairs or any program Johnny Isakson or Chambliss have put togather to help Georgians?

Yes, the Dems keeps “throwing money” at education and poverty expecting that everyone will get perfect SAT scores and no one will be poor. Since this hasn’t happened yet the Dems are obviosuly crazy.
That is the kind of logic that gets Conservatives to vote Mormon.
