Santorum exits after a campaign that beat all expectations

Everyone who had Rick Santorum making it until the Tuesday after Easter, not giving up his presidential campaign until he’d contested 26 of the 56 primaries/caucuses and won the second-most delegates in them, take your bow.

Or maybe we should just leave the applause to Santorum himself.

A campaign that started with little money and few believers, on the ashes of a blowout of a failed Senate re-election six years ago, pushed Mitt Romney to the brink in such key states as Michigan and Ohio and defeated Newt Gingrich across much of the Deep South. Santorum won Iowa by a hair — though he wasn’t recognized as the winner for a couple of weeks — then used a trifecta of upsets over Romney to become the last serious challenger to him.

He didn’t always help himself by talking at length about social issues in an election year bound to be dominated by dollars and cents, but that’s who he is — and Santorum’s authenticity is part of what drew more than 3 million GOP primary voters to him. Like Mike Huckabee in 2008, he proved there’s still a sizable contingent of evangelicals who are willing to buck the establishment and vote their consciences in a Republican primary. And he may have gone farther than Huckabee in demonstrating an economic platform that conservatives could embrace.

What ultimately did him in were two things. First, he had a way of talking about social issues that, in my view, was unnecessarily abrasive. As I considered whether to vote for him, I couldn’t escape the belief that he could have made the same points in a more appealing way — and that the way he made those points endangered his ability to win the presidency and act on them.

Second, he couldn’t shake his association with the 2000-2006 era of the GOP-led Congress, when Republicans lost their fiscal bearings and turned spendthrift — losing the gains made after 1994 and setting the stage for even bigger blowouts once the Democrats took control in 2007. His votes for big-government Republican policies, and his wince-inducing defense of them as unavoidable in the “team sport” of politics, couldn’t be reconciled with the necessity of paring back government.

It will be crucial now for Romney to woo the voters who chose Santorum instead of him during the past three months. There is some debate about whether they would actually sit out the election, possibly handing it to President Obama. Romney can’t take them for granted, and can’t take that chance. He would do well to be very visible in reaching out to Santorum and to do whatever it takes to get Santorum to bury the hatchet — it was a very ugly primary at times — and work to elect him.

I can only jump to a conclusion that his dropping out has something to do with his daughter’s health. God Bless.

While you contend that positions “in an election year bound to be dominated by dollars and cents”, I also think those social issues will be a large factor in choosing the next President. That should concern the Repubs, but let the chest beating begin!

Santorum’s Crusade is over – Hallelujah!

Now the next President of the United States can get down to the business of picking a running mate (not anyone named Santorum or Gingrich) and moving on to the general election.

Interesting discussions following Santorum’s exit regarding the support for the current Disaster-in-Chief and his 5 point lead over Romney in the national polls. The undecideds are not leaning towards Obama at all (only about 15% of them), Latino support is down about 15 points and overall the support for him is very soft among young people as well.

In short, the people who came out in droves last time aren’t with him or aren’t excited about him like last time. Even the Democrat strategist Joe Trippi says it’s going to be a very close race.

Too bad for moderates of all stripes. The country would have been better off with the clear choice provided by Santorum. He would have been crushed and with him the radical Tea Party movement. Now, after Romney loses a very close election, the Tea People will say, see, if we had only nominated a true conservative and further entrench their brand on the Republican Party.

Look, Santorum was going to get beat again in his home state, and if he had allowed that to happen, his political goose would have been cooked forever. Romney had a $3 million ad buy waiting in the wings that talked about Santorum’s last loss and his fiscal spending record, both things he couldn’t challenge. Add in no money, no organization, a sick daughter, and the prospects of another shellacking in two weeks with some very big electoral states, and he had no choice but to suspend the Crusade.

Let’s see – a nation in economic recovery from a crisis that left unchecked was leading us into a depression; unemployment on the decline; from LOSING 750K jobs monthly to gaining 120K – 250K monthly!!
That’s a beginning!

Race relations are because of the negatives that conservatives, the Tea Party, Karl rove and the Koch Brothers have put into play!! This level of animus didn’t come forth until Obama came into office!!

Personal finances were in rapid decline under Bush…but there is a steady recovery in many circles! For as many that you say are in decline, there are that many in recovery (me, for one!)…..

Health care…which the GOP NEVER tackled…now insurance can’t consider pre-existing conditions and college students can stay covered on their parents’ coverage…these are good things!!

Drugs are in short supply due to the GOP’s refusal to negotiate with the drug companies on Medicare pricing…and the drug companies are holding back the supply!!

Things are improving…but when conservatives stated from the beginning that their main focus was to make Obama a “one-term President”, it was evident that there would be nothing but hostility rather than taking care of the nation’s business……

GOGGLE – Mormon Underwear or Mormon Religion

To millions of Mormons around the world, garments are a special piece of clothing worn as a symbolic gesture of the promises that they have made to God. The garment is always worn under other clothing, next to the skin. For most people who wear it, the garment takes the place of regular underwear.

(For this reason, some people refer to the garment as Mormon undergarments or as Mormon underwear. Most LDS prefer simply using the term “garment” instead.)

The garment is directly related to Mormon temples. It is there that faithful members first receive the garment after individual instruction on what it stands for and how it should be cared for.

The garment is worn as part of a special ceremony called the temple endowment. The garment is worn at all times (day and night) by members as a constant reminder of the promises they have made to God in the Temple to be honest and faithful to the commandments of the Lord.

The conservatives did not state from the beginning that their main focus was to make Obama a one term president. That came after he shoved Obamacare down their gullet without trying to get one GOP vote. Had he taken a different tact and tried to work with the GOP and incorporate them in the discussion, the effort to defeat him would have been postponed until closer to the election. He knew he had a Dem controlled House and Senate and he said to hell with the GOP from the getgo. He did not realize that you can’t govern against 50% of the population.

HOWEVER, Dems did go after GWB from the outset. Even before he was sworn in, they were screaming he stole the election. Not true, every recount showed he would have won Florida, even though Al Gore had disenfranchised the military vote. So, unless you are willing to criticize the Dems, you don’t need to bring up this tired old untruth about Mitch McConnell saying we need to make Barry Oblamer a one term President.

With Santorum out there is only one true conservative to vote for (actually there always was only one) – Ron Paul. The media claimed Santorum was in second place on delegates but few pay attention to how delegates are elected. It has little or nothing to do with most state beauty contests. Ron Paul was actually in second place and now with Santorum out his delegates will be up for grabs and Ron will be winning even more going forward in pro-freedom states like Texas. Given the huge rallies he has had over the past weeks in California, significant delegate additions are likely from that state as well. Romney is no shoe in by a long shot. Freedom still does have a chance in this election cycle and Ron Paul will be there as the only candidate out there promoting it.

Second, so these “garments” are worn day and night, right? Let me ask you a question: Do you believe in God? If so, do you wear a cross? If so, do you wear it day and night? Against your skin?

Thought so. Failure number 2 for you.

The next time you attempt to denigrate another person’s religion, you might wish to bone up on the one you happen to practice. In short, if there is no cross as a religious symbol to wear, what else are you going to wear against your body?

First, your comments never used the term “magic” at all, let alone “magic underwear”. First failure for you.

Garments.

The pivotal event of the book is an appearance of Jesus Christ to the Americas shortly after his resurrection.

“Garments are a symbolic gesture of the promises that Mormons have made to God. The garment is always worn under other clothing, next to the skin. In fact, for most people who wear it, the garment takes the place of regular underwear. Mormons begin wearing it during their first visit to the temple, wherein they receive individual instruction on how the garment should be worn and cared for, and furthermore, they undergo a sacred ceremony called the temple endowment. Solely during this ritual, additional special clothing is put on; by contrast, the garment or special underwear is worn at all times, both day and night, from then on. It serves as a constant reminder of the covenants made during the temple endowment.”

So, this is ok, but socialism is bad. Muslim is bad.

As John F. Kennedy put it in 1963 when he endorsed a cut in this tax: “The tax on capital gains directly affects investment decisions, the mobility and flow of risk capital” as well as “the ease or difficulty experienced by new ventures in obtaining capital, and thereby the strength and potential for growth in the economy.”

Today’s Democrats in Washington are no Jack Kennedys. As President Obama told Charlie Gibson of ABC News in 2008, whether or not a higher capital-gains tax raises more revenue is irrelevant to him. He wants a higher rate as a matter of “fairness.” The soup may be lousy but he wants more of it.

Oblama wants the capital gains tax raised because he feels it is “unfair”. Charles Gibson asked him something to the effect, since stats show that raising the capital gains rate reduces the amount of capital gain revenue the government receives, why would you want to raise it. Obama said because it is unfair.

So, he is for the Buffet rule because it strikes him as fair even though it will result in less money coming into the government. Talk about delusional economical policies. Much of the liberal economic plan involves punishing the rich, not increasing revenue.

Oblamer is also dishonest when he lies through omission. He often points out that he wants the rich to pay the same rate as their secretaries. He deliberately leads the willfully uninformed to believe that the rich are paying a lower income tax rate than the middle class. He knows the rich have little income and pay mainly capital gains. Class warfare is his game and election strategy.

The Buffet rule brings in about 4 B a year, we spend that much on a daily basis. He has this as his chief economic policy for the 2012 campaign. Only the willfully uninformed would thing that this man has a plan or economic policy.

Romney’s “Mormon moment” was bound to happen sooner or later in this campaign. Four years ago, during his first presidential campaign, it happened when the chatter over Mormonism got loud enough that the former Massachusetts governor saw fit to deliver a major speech on faith. Most memorably, it was presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, who made headlines by wondering out loud if Mormons believe Jesus and the devil are brothers. He later apologized to Romney, but the damage may already have been done.

Many of them “go to the beach” at least once in their life. They travel to reunions, weddings, funerals, and to visit aunt Eunice in the mountains. They eventually have to apply for Soc Security. They need and have some form of ID.

As with any statement, there are a few exceptions. If some rural yahoo is forced to drive to the Big City to get hisself an IDee, then fare the well. At least, we may stop some of the dead folks and illegals from canceling out your and my vote. So the Republicans are left with a nominee who created the blueprint for Obamacare and over the course of his career has been more liberal than Obama. The nominee of the Tea Party is a lifelong flip-flopper and panderer, a government establishment candidate, and a wealthy corporate hack with a track record of cutting jobs and closing companies, the perfect background at a time when Americans are still out of work. The party of fundamentalist Christians just nominated a Mormon, which many of them consider to be a cult. The Republicans insist on having one train wreck after another.

And yet no matter how many times you type it, he didn’t and he wasn’t. But then, don’t let facts get in the way of a good cry.

“flip-flopper”

A term used by people who don’t realize that other people can change their mind based on new and compelling information.

“with a track record of cutting jobs and closing companies,”

And yet, his record isn’t one like that, rather one of saving companies and expanding jobs. But again, don’t let facts get in the way of a good cry.

The sad thing is that there are many people just as dense as you are, Progressive Humanist, who never take the time to actually learn about who they are or are not going to vote for, which is why we have the current Disaster-in-Chief residing in the White House.

But hopefully not for long.

Why the sudden love for Reagen by the Oblamacrats? They are trying to paint Oblama as a moderate. Oblama is no Reagan. Reagan was for a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Oblama is for a government of the government, by the government and for the government. Oblama is a socialist. See Oblama for what he is – not what he appears to be. And anyone relying on polls taken in early April of any election year is a fool.

In addition, while women occasionally get it wrong when choosing a President (see Clinton, Bill and Obama, Barack) the recent firestorm generated by both the lamestream media and fueled by Rick Santorm was largely ignored by the GOP nominee, Mitt Romney. A such, Romney has time to repair the damage done in a generic sense by the above-mentioned sources, and can’t be painted with the same brush as Santorum could be.

Finally, AmVet’s political prognostication skills are seriously lacking, in that he has predicted huge losses for the GOP time and time again, only to be proven wrong each and every time. I wouldn’t bet a single $1 on any of AmVet’s picks in any election.

AmVet…girlfriend:

According to a USA Today/Gallup Poll, American women under the age of 50, support the president by a staggering 31% margin.

All that proves to me is how easily women can be misled.

In another poll:

The new survey reveals that, by a 50-41 percentage point margin, Americans say all employers should not have to cover birth control or potentially abortion-causing drugs while a larger 57-36 percentage point margin say religious employers should not be forced to provide coverage.

When asked “Should health insurance plans for all employees have to cover the full cost of birth control for female employees or should employers be able to opt out for moral or religious reasons?” even women favor the opt-out on a 46-44 percent plurality. That margin for women increased to a 53-38 margin for “religiously affiliated employers, such as a hospital or university.”

Men favored opting out by a 20 point margin (57 vs. 37), and that percentage jumped to a 25-point spread for an opt out when religious employers were mentioned

It’s like Romney said…no one is trying to take away women’s contraceptives. Paying for them and withholding them are two entirely different issues.

‘Ya gotta pay to play.

So what have we learned from the posts responding to Kyle’s column of Rick Santorum exiting the GOP primary race?

First and foremost, we have learned that liberals claim to be more tolerant than conservatives on issues, but in reality they are more intolerant than anyone, especially as it regards religious views.

We have learned that there is no such thing as “magic underpants” in the Mormon religion, and that it is just a derisive term used to denigrate Mormons in general, and Mitt Romney in particular.

We have learned that liberals do not understand the significance of religious symbology one little bit.

We have learned the this campaign will not be run on the incumbent’s record, but that he and his myrmidons will be running AWAY from his record.

And we have learned that despite all pleas to provide substance, liberals will still resort to personal attacks on the candidates and the bloggers, rather than make their case with logic or truth.
