I’ll be off-line for the next week or so: My wife and I welcomed our second child into the world this morning! It’s another boy — name still TBD — and he and his mama are resting well this afternoon. Life truly is miraculous, and I’m a thankful, proud papa today.

My favorite name for a boy is Shamus. Tried to get a friend to name her baby “Shamus”. She hated it…her husband loved it for reasons that should be obvious. A woman calls him by name, he has the perfect opening.

Congrats on the new arrival, Kyle and family.
One bit of unsolicited advice on the naming thing. Whatever you’re going to call him, let that be his first name and not his middle. Going by your middle name is a pain in the donkey-like animal. Both my parents go by their middle names, well Daddy actually goes by a nickname from childhood, only his Mama ever called by his name, but they shoulda known better. They did it to me, anyway.

Ok, back to the drawing board…
Mary Elizabeth

6:22 pm
But, Kyle, what if little Wright Wing(field) turns out to be a liberal? Some think the core differences between conservatives and liberals are genetic, you know (among other reasons).
Little Mr. Wright may skip a few genetic generations and surprise you! But he would still have the name. And, still be loved, too – I am certain – whichever way he leaned in his thinking!
Again, congratulations. What a blessing!

Heyyyyy….Kyle’s in FIRST PLACE in this naming contest. Absolutely..
WRIGHT WING(FIELD) !! You can’t beat that one. Makes my conservative heart aflutter!!
I was kinda leaning towards Bubba and Amabufu has a nice ring to it. But Wright is so right!
Now, I’m trying to think what inspirational gift this precious fellow should receive. A Braves cap would get him off to the right start. A UGA T-shirt? A gift card from the Varsity? I want the best for him..

Well, now that we have helped Kyle decide on a name for (temporarily referred to as #2) we must delve in important philosophical questions. Unless you are a droll troll, please answer the poll! One answer only…
#1 How soon should baby boy play in Super Bowl? Next week? Next year? Every April Fool’s Day?
#2 If baby boy eats spinach, what will he join? Army? Navy? Marines? Boy Scouts?
#3 Should baby boys accept gifts from lobbyists? Yes? No? Only if they are good ones?
#4 If you were a baby boy, would you build a stadium? Yes? No? Only if last name is BLANK?
#5 Should baby boys demand ethics in the nursery? You bet! I came with ‘em! Forget it!
#6 When “burping” on shoulder, whom should baby boys favor? Mom? Dad? GrandMa? Cleaning lady?
#7 Can baby boys vote after having their picture taken? Yes? No? Only in some states? Hawaii?
#8 If baby boy is named “Sue”, what should he do? Go to court? Call Johnny Cash? Be a lawyer?
#9 If baby boy wants to be a journalist, what should he do? Learn sanskrit? Finish high school? Have a rich uncle?
#10 If baby boy is faced with bloggers, what should he do? Hide? Throw up? Call Dad asap?
———
Good luck! We will need a nice chart to show results. Volunteer?

just make sure it’s something easy to spell.
Bob is about as easy as you can get. It’s the same coming as going.
I used to know a guy whose parents named him Glenn. He changed it to Glen, though. Said he just felt like he was done writing after the first “n”.

“Seriously? Why the heck would you name him Otis?”
