This is a potential game-changer. From the Associated Press:
Texas Gov. Rick Perry will abandon his presidential bid and endorse Newt Gingrich, two Republican officials said Thursday, a move coming just two days before the pivotal South Carolina primary as Republican front-runner Mitt Romney struggles to fend off a challenge from the former House speaker.
Not because Perry commands a huge segment of the GOP electorate at this point — if he did, he wouldn’t be dropping out — but because it means the consolidation of the Not Romneys is truly in full swing. And with Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain already long gone, Perry is in the best position to signal which Not Romney has the best chance of beating Romney. Apparently, Rick Santorum isn’t getting the nod. (Ron Paul never stood a chance of getting Perry’s support imo.)
If anyone has a chance of beating Romney now, it’s Gingrich.

I don’t think Democrats will ever find anyone who will make us want a Dem president after Obama leaves office. It won’t be possible.
We will be struggling with the huge debt he leaves us for many many years. He has added to that debt and wants to add even more. Now that is unforgetable and it has his name on it.

This is the result of a coordinated effort to get Romney one-on-one with a social conservative, orchestrated by the Tony Perkins and his ilk who met last weekend in Texas to ensure defeat for a moderate (Romney) in the primaries and to ensure a defeat for a conservative (Gingrich) in the general election. They got to Perry and laid down the law to him.
They want the former (and may get their way), but don’t expect the latter (but will get that result) if they do get the former.

This is really getting painful to watch. Another circus performance tonight on CNN? Why? Oh yeah, CNN’s ratings will improve by hosting the best reality/comedy series on TV. Obama and the Dem/Libs must be constantly pinching themselves just so they can joyfully realize again and again that this is not a dream — this is really happening.
Not only are the Pubs self-destructing, (I thought Bookman’s word for it, “dysfunctional,” was way too kind), they have been doing it regularly in front of a national TV audience since about last November when things were really looking grim for the Dems, and boy have they helped the Dems turn that around. They have a great following with millions tuning in now, not so they can vet a possible future President, but to see what the next, biggest, dumbest thing one, or more of them is going to say. And they even have a Libertarian up there with them, who has decided to be a Republican for a while. Many thought the ratings would dip with the goofiest and most scandalized players biting the dust, but despite the departures of the teaser candidate, Palin, who just couldn’t make up her mind, the scandalized Cain, the nitwit Bachmann, Whathisname From Utah, and now Perry (Palin with a Penis), the show still has legs.
And who knows what fun will happen next, so be sure to tune in folks, anything goes!! It has become clear that the point of this interminable and excruciating exercise is obviously not choose a winning Pub contender, but to win the Pub nomination . . . and that’s it. If you doubt that, just think about what “conservative” Pubs Gingrich and Perry just did to moderate Pub Romney. In effect, they both joined up with Obama, the Dems, and Occupy Wall Street and outed Romney as a low tax rate paying, 1% rich guy, and “vulture capitalist” (nitwit Perry’s exact words). And now Perry, a walking talking disaster who should have never been in this circus is out, and the damage is done to the one guy who could win in November. But, I don’t say that with as much conviction any more because of what he has suffered from his own party, and because there is no line these guys won’t cross while going after moderate Romney. Obama is going to have it all down if Romney is nominated. And if he’s not nominated, does any Pub with half a brain seriously believe that this country will elect Newt Gingrich President??? If so, what are you smoking? This whole Not Romney fiasco has not only made the Pubs look ridiculous and seriously damaged the party in a year that we could have won, but it is going to hurt this nation because we will have four more years of gridlock in Washington.

gm, you’ve got a case against Newt on the morals issue, but you have nothing on Romney in that regard. Nothing suggests his personal life is anything but exemplary, and as to his “hiding money around the world” thing, that is neither immoral nor illegal, and more importantly, his money is held in a blind trust for others to handle the details and transactions.
Good for the current President to have family values you think are important. However, “class” is something I do not associate with the current Disaster-in-Chief. His associations with Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright and others from the mobocracy from Chicago are not those someone of class would have, and his wife’s inviting a rapper to the WH who called for the assassination of a former President is pretty classless itself.

You know what, in one sense it doesn’t matter who gets the nod. All of these people have shown that they are willing to kow-tow to the primal urges of the jawslacker base through bald-faced lying.
Newt Romney, I mean Mitt, has beein going around spewing the lie that Obama “apologized for America”.
How to explain this bald-faced lying by a major politician?
The reason is that facts are no friends to Republicans, so lying is the only way. And plus it’s clear that with a broken, misguided mainstream media, they think they can get away with it. And they may be right.

I have established my own moral values and not by political party rules. I am a Christian.
Christians are directed to love one another i.e. everybody.
We are not blind to imperfections. We all have them.
In politics, we hope for the best and we choose whom we think is most capable to run our country.
At this moment, I think Gingrich is the most capable to be our leader. He is not perfect. Neither are you and I.

Dusty @ 12:35 – I think we may agree on a couple of points:
-Without the economic wreckage of W’s policies, Obama is not the President.
-As a VN vet, it does feel strange that from 1992 til now, every veteran who served in a combat theatre ( H. W. Bush, Dole, Gore, Kerry, McCain) lost their run for the Presidency.
As for 2012, the GOP still needs a candidate who represents the Party well – and imo, neither Gingrich nor Romney is that candidate. Interesting that the GOP has selected Daniels to deliver the State of the Union rebuttal. I do think Romney has a chance of beating Obama-Biden. But Obama-Clinton? No chance at all.
The GOP is still winning the Presidency of the South. And maybe the Presidency of the West. But 270 in the Electoral College? That’s where the Presidency of the US is actually won. The GOP needs a candidate who can do that.
