Perry’s move is huge for Gingrich

This is a potential game-changer. From the Associated Press:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry will abandon his presidential bid and endorse Newt Gingrich, two Republican officials said Thursday, a move coming just two days before the pivotal South Carolina primary as Republican front-runner Mitt Romney struggles to fend off a challenge from the former House speaker.

Not because Perry commands a huge segment of the GOP electorate at this point — if he did, he wouldn’t be dropping out — but because it means the consolidation of the Not Romneys is truly in full swing. And with Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain already long gone, Perry is in the best position to signal which Not Romney has the best chance of beating Romney. Apparently, Rick Santorum isn’t getting the nod. (Ron Paul never stood a chance of getting Perry’s support imo.)

If anyone has a chance of beating Romney now, it’s Gingrich.

That would be hilarious to watch…even money Gingrich can’t win more Electoral College Votes than Goldwater.

And I’d wager that a bulk of Ron Paul’s support isn’t going to go to any other candidate even if Paul did decide to drop out of his last campaign.

Frankly, I love Newt’s ability to debate and to call the shots as he sees them. I am afraid however, that he is carrying way too much political and personal baggage to get elected. Those libs will cast stones like they are entirely without sin. Romney is a businessman, has led a decent life that withstands the severest scrutiny and I am for him. I don’t care if my President is “charismatic” or funny. I just want one with a good business head on his shoulders and who can save this nation. That guy is Romney.

Perry was a good man and I’m sorry to see him go. I understand his choice of Gingrich. He wants a strong man against Obama and that is Gingrich.

This situation reminds me of the Italian Coast Guard Captain telling the sinking ship’s captain his duty. I think Perry is saying to all Republicans, “Get back on board (xz#y#iflz)!!!!!”

We are headed for the rocks if we don’t get a strong & able Republican in Washington. Gingrich looks like the stronger “captain”.

They are scared to death that they are going to discover what a failure this one term joke has been that they can’t do anything but try to run down every person who is GOP. barry the boy blunder…four and out.

I am not of that group that believes a Romney candidacy would be the second coming of McCain or Dole, but neither do I think Gingrich is the second coming of AuH2O. I am leaning toward Gingrich myself, but not enthusiastically so. He is the fellow who excoriated the Ryan plan as “right wing social engineering” and I have not yet fully forgiven him that lunatic attack.

Kinda sad about Romney. He’s a nice guy. Tries to be the diplomat and a gentleman and he is.

Trouble is, he would not be running against a gentle diplomatic crowd. He’d be running against the toughest troublemakers ever to hit Washington. They don’t play nice. We know because we watched them dump dirt for eight years and more.

No use to send Mr. Clean to Washington. He’d be washed out. Send one who knows how to handle insults, thuggery and Lee Atwater maneuvers. Gingrich has already handled the “guff” and stands with his own integrity. That “integrity” may not match our own but we know a fighter when we see one. He is tough and smart.

I think we best send the tough smart one to Washington. This aint gonna be no tea & crumpet time! I suggest that Republicans keep that in mind.

Trouble is, he will not be opposing gentlemen and diplomats. He will be fighting the toughtest element ever to hit Washington. We have watched the insults, thuggery and mud slinging for over eight years.

No use to send Mr. Clean into that mess. Gingrich has already faced the “guff” with leadership.. He has come out with his own integrity which may not resemble our own but it is there. He is strong, tough and smart. That is what we need at this time. Not tea & crumpets but muscles and a mighty mentality.

Really? Just what were his main contributions…other than

Losing the ‘95 Shutdown showdown…was the seat that important?

Becoming the first Speaker sanctioned for ethics violations.

Becoming the poster child for hypocrisy by having an affair while vigorously attacking Clinton for the same “sin”

Slinking away in defeat in ‘98…presumably to maximize his income peddling influence.
