Gingrich fires back at Carter’s ’subtlety of racism’ charge

In an interview to air on Piers Morgan’s show tonight, Jimmy Carter suggests Newt Gingrich is engaging in “that subtlety of racism” when he talks about food stamps and “welfare mommas”:

Over the phone a few minutes ago, Gingrich gave me this response to Carter’s words:

It’s sad to watch people on the left who have no solutions for the problems of poverty and who automatically start talking about racism the minute a conservative starts talking about how to solve poverty. Carter tried The Atlanta Project*, it didn’t work. You would think he’d have a little happiness that someone was trying to solve poverty.

Gingrich sounded cautiously optimistic about his chances in South Carolina but did not commit to a particular share of the vote or ranking he thinks he needs to hit. (”I hope to come in first.”) If he does well there and in Florida on Jan. 31, Super Tuesday on March 6 — with Georgia as a major prize — will be a huge day in the campaign. Texas, too, “depending on where Governor [Rick] Perry is.” If Perry is out of the race by then, as many observers now expect, Gingrich expects to do well in Texas relative to Mitt Romney.

As for Georgia: Gingrich cited his friendships in the state, including his supporter in the governor’s mansion, and volunteers, many of whom are working for him in South Carolina at the moment. His campaign themes here are unlikely to differ from those elsewhere:

Jobs and economic growth will be number one. National security and American strength, number two; American exceptionalism, number three; and balancing the budget, number four.

*I have never heard of The Atlanta Project. Fwiw, this evaluation is not exactly boastful (”TAP doesn’t claim to have all the answers, or the solution for eliminating urban decay”) and it’s probably not a good sign that the link to the TAP page at the Carter Center doesn’t work and the most recent document about TAP on the Carter Center’s site is from 1999. If someone has more recent or complete information about TAP, post it below.

@Somewhere…”So he shouldn’t have any problem releasing his grades. BTW, Obama is a millionaire just like Mitt Romney is.”

Point is why should he…it’s just the Republican’s et. al. using a “get a rock” strategy…just try to overwhelm someone with inane requests to distract from the issue at hand. The way to defeat the strategy is to just say no.

So Obama has a net worth of more than a million…how do we know…he released his tax returns.

So I guess you just did not read the part of my statement about who the parasites are? Like I said before when you wear colored lenses then you can see racism from every word a person says.

Why do you not just go ahead and admit the truth: Anything a white person says that I do not like or agree with proves he/she is a racist? Is this not what you are really thinking?

Habitat has opened up unprecedented opportunities for me to cross the chasm that separates those of us who are free, safe, financially secure, well fed and housed, and influential enough to shape our own destiny from our neighbors who enjoy few, if any, of these advantages of life.”

TD…”Is this not what you are really thinking?”

Nope, but I am obviously unable to educate someone with your special needs…see how it works, I didn’t actually call you dumb as a rock.

Bart Abel: Eliminate child labor laws, fire the adults, and replace them with children? Now THAT is sad.

It’s also a lie to ascribe those beliefs to Gingrich, a lie being a statement one knows is false when they make it.

Bart Abel: Liar.

Newt is the master of Nixon and Reagan’s winning strategy of appealing to the biases of white southern voters. Ever since Johnson and the Democrats passed the civil rights act , this has bee a key GOP strategy to win National elections. Newt knows all the code words to win that vote.

Taxes have to be raised, the question is who will pay? Here in Georgia in Governor Deal clearly favors the wealthy. Last year he proposed private jet owners/Gulfstream/General Dynamics be entitled to a new sales tax exemption for parts in repairs, in the meantime, to make up the difference of the revenue lost, he suggested adding a new sales on labor for the repair of automobiles. It seems in this bad economy people, the lower classes are having to hang onto their old vehicles, longer. So, here you have it, Deal’s idea of how to broaden the tax base: robbing from the poor, to give it to the rich.

Look for more of the same this year. He says his work is still not done.
