Gingrich fires back at Carter’s ’subtlety of racism’ charge

In an interview to air on Piers Morgan’s show tonight, Jimmy Carter suggests Newt Gingrich is engaging in “that subtlety of racism” when he talks about food stamps and “welfare mommas”:

Over the phone a few minutes ago, Gingrich gave me this response to Carter’s words:

It’s sad to watch people on the left who have no solutions for the problems of poverty and who automatically start talking about racism the minute a conservative starts talking about how to solve poverty. Carter tried The Atlanta Project*, it didn’t work. You would think he’d have a little happiness that someone was trying to solve poverty.

Gingrich sounded cautiously optimistic about his chances in South Carolina but did not commit to a particular share of the vote or ranking he thinks he needs to hit. (”I hope to come in first.”) If he does well there and in Florida on Jan. 31, Super Tuesday on March 6 — with Georgia as a major prize — will be a huge day in the campaign. Texas, too, “depending on where Governor [Rick] Perry is.” If Perry is out of the race by then, as many observers now expect, Gingrich expects to do well in Texas relative to Mitt Romney.

As for Georgia: Gingrich cited his friendships in the state, including his supporter in the governor’s mansion, and volunteers, many of whom are working for him in South Carolina at the moment. His campaign themes here are unlikely to differ from those elsewhere:

Jobs and economic growth will be number one. National security and American strength, number two; American exceptionalism, number three; and balancing the budget, number four.

*I have never heard of The Atlanta Project. Fwiw, this evaluation is not exactly boastful (”TAP doesn’t claim to have all the answers, or the solution for eliminating urban decay”) and it’s probably not a good sign that the link to the TAP page at the Carter Center doesn’t work and the most recent document about TAP on the Carter Center’s site is from 1999. If someone has more recent or complete information about TAP, post it below.

Dee @ 9:29 – I spent 28 years at Delta Air Lines with about half of it in management. There was not one case where a qualified minority was held back to put a white man into the job. There were numerous cases where better qualifed white men were put aside to put in a minority man or any race female. If that’s not discrimination, what is?

Question is, what made them better qualified?

“Hmmm…I wonder what dirt Newt’s ex-wife # 2 is going to drop on him on ABC tonight…”

What’s funny is left wingers were all up in arms when people came after Clinton before he was elected in 92. “What happens in his bedroom is his biz” they claimed. Now, the same idiots who were appalled are now cheering.

What a bunch of hypocritical morons.

Experience. Education. You know, things that make someone more qualified to do a job.

There are many cases where minorities with less education etc are hired over more qualified white people. In fact, just look at the guy who is in the White House right now. He never released his grades, has no leadership qualities, never dealt with a payroll in his life, never had any executive experience etc….

In this country just being “white” is qualification enough. I’ll bet those minorities who they hired had the same education and could do the job just as well or they wouldn’t have applied for the job in the first place.

George Bush – an average student at Yale; blasted by the libs as stupid.

Obama – don’t know his academic record; libs blasting those who want his transcripts released.

Typical lib logic.

Dee, if you believe that then I have some swamp land to sell you in south Florida. From reading your comments, it’s you who is racist. Everything you write is “whitey this and whitey that.”

You’ll bet what? Anyone who comes on a blog and writes “I’ll bet you” isn’t all there in the head.

They wouldn’t apply in the first place? You know this how?

I think most Americans are tired of having the Race Card and the ole slavery mentality thrown at us. It has been almost 2 generations since “segregation” was declared unconstitutional. It has been a lot longer since the “slavery” days. Most people of all races now have an equal opportunity to get an education and build some character. Many want to say they are still drowning; yet they are in a shallow amount of water and all they have to do is to stand up and be saved from drowning. Jobs and earning money in early life teaches responsibility and gives dignity to the wage earner. This is the American way of values, respect and life.

Before you classify me as a bigot or racist, I’m far from that…..but I AM a realist!! Racism still exists in the US…..and the biggest form of racism is to insist that it doesn’t exist!! Note the key word that Halftrack(10:07 am) stated: MOST!! Why isn’t it ALL?? Reason…power, race, and reality!! Those who have been ABLE to progress have done so; there are segments of scoiety that have YET to progress….and they have been persistently denigrated as “parasites”, “leeches”…whatever negative connotation conservatives deem adequate for a description!!

@TD…”There is no where in any of my post that even attempts to make race a part of my argument.”

And again you clearly make the point…if you bothered to actually watch the clip prior to engaging your mouth (keyboard) you would know the whole point is to promote a racist bent without actually mentioning race. Something you do quite clearly…

“The solution then is to make it not so attractive to stay here.”…who? Why THEM of course.

“When you make the parasites responsible for there actions and have to pay their own way”…parasites=”those people”

“The results will be more jobs for the producers, less taxes for the producers to pay and better schools.” …Producers=”Us People”

See that’s why it’s subtle, you can do it and then say with an apparently straight face…”who me?”

The only people that are shocked at the Rep racist views are Black Rep conservatives, these people actually thought this party had moved to the 21st century concerning race, people on the left knew who these people were, their past speaks volume for who they are.

I’m stating what I’ve said from PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE!! I have friends at Delta who fit the category I’ve stated…..

You can NOT marginalize someone’s experience although it’s different from your own!! Just because YOU personally haven’t experienced such doesn’t mean that someone else HASN’T…..and I HAVE!!

Realistically, it IS better than it was…but the pockets of racism STILL exist in this nation!! As I satted before, another form of racism is to persist in the idea that racism DOESN’T exist…when it DOES!!
