Harry Reid: Hey, bureaucrats are the ones hurting (video)

Sharron Angle giveth, Sharron Angle taketh away. On the one hand, the Nevada Republican’s awful campaign last year against incumbent Harry Reid helped Democrats avoid an embarrassing electoral defeat and maintain their majority in the Senate. On the other, keeping Reid in office means Republicans still have someone to practically write the campaign ads for them.

Here’s Reid on the Senate floor Wednesday, explaining that the private sector is in fine shape — it’s the public sector that’s hurting during the Obama Recovery:

Via Jeff Emanuel at RedState, who notes that the federal government’s unemployment statistics prove the exact opposite — the unemployment rate for government workers last month was in fact the lowest for any sector. Just as it was a year ago.

Folks, there is nothing wrong with the economy that Democratic leaders think government — more spending, more regulation and now more hiring — can’t fix. Just ask them.

I’ve got my own question. How much more do we have to give to the 1% at the top before these “job creators” start creating jobs? That seems to be the broken record the right is stuck on. Current tax rates are not at confiscatory levels compared to other eras. Yet all the gop candidates maintain that we have to raise taxes on everybody EXCEPT the richest Americans, while once again giving that group a hefty tax cut. Nobody on the right can explain how this tactic has not worked. Did not work the last time it was tried and won’t work the next time its tried. Even Reagan was forced to follow up his mammoth tax cut with a huge tax increase. There is no proven track record these tax cuts create jobs, and yet that’s all the right has.

Uh, that’s sort of the point, dude. Reid thinks corporations and small businesses are doing just fine and not laying anyone off. Tell that to the bank employees getting laid off, the construction workers with no work, the software developers whose jobs are getting offshored. Those criticizing Obama’s economic performance, from the Republican presidential contenders to those commenting here, have two fundamental problems:

One, the facts that show the contracting economy and huge job losses at the end of Bush’s administration. Also that the initial data, on which the stimulus was based, understated the depth of the problem. The critics may call it excuses until they are red in face, but they cannot change those important facts.

Two, the critics cannot prove by any factual evidence that the economy would be in a better shape if a Republican were in the White House. They can repeat opinions and theories as much as they want, but all they have are words, which are cheap.

Yes, of course, Reid (and anyone to the left of Ayn Rand) is out of touch with mainstream America. Only hardcore conservatives truly feel the pain of working class people, and as soon as we elect someone (anyone… as long as they’re god-fearin’ po-folk hatin’ “keep the gov’t out of my life… but not yours” type of folk) the “job creators” (roflmao) will start to creatin’, the riches will “trickle down”, the middle class will be rejuvenated and life will be grand! You see, their economic practices in the past have ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR ANEMIC ECONOMY, JUST ASK THEM, and as soon as we get back to those same exact policies and practices (with even more emphasis on shifting ALL of the nation’s wealth to the already-wealthy) all will be roses and puppy dogs. There is no alternative policy or mindset in the GOP… this is what they’ve done in the past and this is exactly what they’re telling us they’ll do in the future given the opportunity. Then they’ll blame the carnage on someone else and emphatically deny any involvement, which will be good enough for their “base” to believe.

Consider for a moment, the real reason for the mess we find ourselves in as a country.
Bank deregulation changed the mortgage banking industry in a dramatic negative way.
For the first time they were allowed to “package” their loans and sell them as “investments blocks”.
They can get a higher yield from these “sales” than they can if they keep the loans and service them themselves. They began making loans to anyone, regardless of their creditworthiness…then “package” and sell them.
Now banks have a choice…do they make mortgage loans which earn 31/2 to 4/12%, or do they invest their money in higher yield markets.
The answer….we are now required to pay 20% down to qualify for a loan or to refinance. They have no incentive to make housing loans. Fewer loans means fewer new nome construction…and the glut of existing homes just “sits” there dragging down the value of everyone’s home.
How many of these long time unemployed workers come from the housing industry? Let’s see…that’s carpenters, plumbers, electricians, roofers, painters, brick masons, appliance dealers, septic tank companies, landscapers, etc.
Canada, btw, did not have a recession…one reason…they regulate their banks. Mortgage lenders just make mortgage loans…know what else…these banks are required to “keep the loans they make” and service them throughout the life of the loan.
Now, what are we continuing to hear from the GOP contenders….less regulations will promote more jobs.
Less regulation CAUSED this mess in the first place…God help us if the GOP gains control of this country once again.

They do however care about illegals though. They need that vote. Those two are the only ones not running to the hills like the other democrates.

Hey, I used to be a democrate, was proud of it. But now? No, these people in congress are not democrats like Kennedy or the others coming though history. There was no anger or hate in Kennedy, he truely loved America. These people today, well its like they are part of a liberal hate crime. They are begging for people to protest and kill and mame. I mean come on. Bidden says there will be murders and rapes and then what happens. A protester in Ohio claims she was raped. Its all just a ploy. To divide and conquere. I beg you democrates to look at the history of our party, then look at these people who are in the party now. If you see them as the same the continue to vote for them. If your like me and am very very afraid of what they are doing, well then vote for the GOP. Remember, you can tell anyone you voted for Obama but only you will ever know the truth. Who will know that when it counted you looked down at your kids and grandkids and proclaimed, NOT ON MY WATCH and then pushed the button beside the GOP.

I wont lie, I am done with the crazy democratic takeover of our country. Poor Virginia and the coal industry, well they will be very unemployed soon by Obamas regulations, electric bills of every american will sky rocket. You think its bad now, just wait till the regulations of the electric/coal mandate comes in. You can look at electric bills going up at least by 4 times what you pay now. People really will be in dark. Remember, open you eyes, you really do get what you ask for and sometimes the Change given is not what you actually thought you were getting. It is all about the unions. Harry owes his reelection to the unions. They bused in people in sufficient quantity to overcome any vote that Angle was going to get. She ran a poor campaign, but Reid had the Unions to compensate for his lack of popularity with mainstream voters in Nevada. He is controlled by the Unions as a result.

The unions have shrunk to next to nothing in the private sector and flourished in the public sector, hence, Reid’s comments. He and Oblamer have to suck up to the unions, since they are so unpopular with mainstream America. When Harry says the Public Sector needs help, he really means we need more union jobs.

Then, about a dozen protesters put tape across their mouths and tried to enter the hotel, intending to walk through the attached Lenox Square shopping mall to Phipps. But security guards stopped them and told them the demonstrators would not be allowed in the hotel, as it was private property.

One organizer told Elliot that the protesters had not realized the mall was private property.

jefferson- When labor is treated like a “human resource” and is in high supply (USA), a labor union is the only chance a worker has to be treated fairly and compensated justly.

Let’s just raise the minimum wage up to a reasonable $20/hr and watch jobs come falling out of the sky…

JDW- By the way all those places get longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality and generally better results from thier spend

Is that why they come running south acrross the border to get treatment? Our doctor’s are miracle workers. Problem is they have to deal with an inferior product and patients too stupid to follow orders or to lazy to do anything on their behalf to save their own life.

To increase life expectancy you might want to address our being the fattest, laziest country on the planet.

Harry Reid and Joe Biden are, without a doubt, two of the best reasons for voting Republican.

@Tiberius…”take 30% off the top of our healthcare costs because of defensive medicine practiced by physicians in order to avoid malpractice suits.”

You are in a Repugican induced dream world…the cost of defensive medicine is an issue but a small one. The latest estimate from Health Affairs puts it at $46.5 billion which added to malpractice premiums runs the ENTIRE liability cost to $55.6 Billion. At 307 million people that’s about $181 per year or about 2.5% of the $7538 total per capita cost.

As for that 20% because our “our freedom to do really, really stupid things to ourselves that other countries regulate” that’s just absurd.

@JKL2…”Is that why they come running south acrross the border to get treatment?”

Here is a nice post from the Denver Post that debunks that and other common myths…

BTW if numbers were availible we would probably find more Americans going to low cost health care destinations than the reverse to be true.

@Tiberius…your should read the Canadian article in the Denver Post too…it points out that we have the…

“most bureaucratic health care system in the world. More than 31 percent of every dollar spent on health care in the U.S. goes to paperwork, overhead, CEO salaries, profits, etc. The provincial single-payer system in Canada operates with just a 1 percent overhead.”

That means that we spend $2,336 per year per person to run the health insurance companies.

JDW, if you don’t want to buy health insurance, don’t.

But kindly keep your (and more importantly, Obozo’s) fascist power grab off my healthcare.

@Barry…”But kindly keep your (and more importantly, Obozo’s) fascist power grab off my healthcare.”

That the best you can do? Come lets have some data to show me how good our health care system is or how much value it delivers when compared to it’s peers. Good luck with that! You will be searching a long time.
