Harry Reid: Hey, bureaucrats are the ones hurting (video)

Sharron Angle giveth, Sharron Angle taketh away. On the one hand, the Nevada Republican’s awful campaign last year against incumbent Harry Reid helped Democrats avoid an embarrassing electoral defeat and maintain their majority in the Senate. On the other, keeping Reid in office means Republicans still have someone to practically write the campaign ads for them.

Here’s Reid on the Senate floor Wednesday, explaining that the private sector is in fine shape — it’s the public sector that’s hurting during the Obama Recovery:

Via Jeff Emanuel at RedState, who notes that the federal government’s unemployment statistics prove the exact opposite — the unemployment rate for government workers last month was in fact the lowest for any sector. Just as it was a year ago.

Folks, there is nothing wrong with the economy that Democratic leaders think government — more spending, more regulation and now more hiring — can’t fix. Just ask them.

I believe Reid misspoke when he said, “public sector jobs are doing just fine.” I think what he meant was the “public sector is fine.” Corporations are sitting on three trillion dollars and are not hiring Americans for jobs. They are benefiting from tax breaks, and are not creating jobs for Americans. The Bush tax cuts that were extended were supposed to create jobs, remember? Where are the jobs?

The Bush tax cuts DID create jobs, when they were initially made. Obozo didn’t cut income tax rates, he kept them the same. Keeping tax rates the same doesn’t create jobs. And Obozo’s payroll tax cut didn’t work either.

Obozo: Fail.

When I was in Vancouver and came down with Strep they didn’t ration my health care and I’m not even a citizen. I made a same day appontment at a clinic down the street from the hotel. Carried my own throat culture across the street to the lab that tested it while I waited. Went back across the street with the results, got a prescription, walked two blocks down the street and picked up my antibiotic regimen.

It took about 90 minutes and cost $45 — in 2008.

im my opinion, bidnesspeople do not create jobs primarily because they got a tax cut or because of fewer regulations. these people create jobs primarily because there is more demand for their product or service. one wonders where this demand is supposed to materialize since not only are there so many unemployed, but the overwhelming majority of those who are employed have seen their pay frozen while costs (expecially health care premiums) continue to race upward.

someone on this blog should please explain how they would propose creating more consumer demand given the existing conditions i just described.

OK Basic economy…taxes can fund infrastruture needs,… the government HIRES contractors and engineers to design them…, the Contractors BUY materials in the private sector to build said infrastructure…the private sector Hires workers to make the materials…all must eat, transport themselves and goods…more private sector jobs are maintained and created to service the people designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure…and how do I know this…it has worked before over and over bringing us out of recession after recession etc.

And speaking of people hurting, let’s see what’s going on with Atlanta’s Occupados…

This is straight out of a comedy script. Bunch of dumba$$, punk dopeheads.

“Occupy Atlanta’s march to Buckhead fizzled Thursday after some participants apparently lost their way on MARTA”

First, part of the contingent failed to show; they were coming on MARTA but presumably lost their way, Occupy Atlanta participants told Channel 2 Action News’ Richard Elliot.

Then, about a dozen protesters put tape across their mouths and tried to enter the hotel, intending to walk through the attached Lenox Square shopping mall to Phipps. But security guards stopped them and told them the demonstrators would not be allowed in the hotel, as it was private property.

One organizer told Elliot that the protesters had not realized the mall was private property.

The Arab American awakening? and no black lung disease in coal mines? no dirty water, air and no global warming? a “fine” private sector? but a crumbling public sector?

The agenda of the left is to laugh at.

I’m not sure how this happened, but the apparent truth of the matter is that no program of the left is judged ill if the intentions are good, no matter how many are harmed. No program of the right is judged good, no matter how many peoplee are helped.

And somehow Harry Reid gets away with making such a stupid comment that can only be either 1) grossly misinformed, so much that he ought to resign, or 2) so outrageously prevaricating that he should be promoted to head of the DNC and Chief of Staff at the White House, combined.

You dufus, same exact thing applies in Canada, UK or anywhere else that has single payer…you don’t like what you get with the standard plan you are free to pay what you want for other care…only difference bettween them and us is they pay around 1/2 what we do for that standard plan so they have more to spend…

2008 Healthcare Spending Per Capita

US…$7,538
Canada…$4,079
UK…$3,129
Norway…$5,003…they spend the 2cd most

By the way all those places get longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality and generally better results from thier spend.

JDW, take 30% off the top of our healthcare costs because of defensive medicine practiced by physicians in order to avoid malpractice suits. Then take 20% off the difference between our life expectancy and other countries due to the difference in our freedom to do really, really stupid things to ourselves that other countries regulate in the name of safety and security.

Once you do that and look at things realistically, our healthcare system stacks up better than everybody else’s once you compare apples to apples.

Is that why they come running south acrross the border to get treatment? Our doctor’s are miracle workers. Problem is they have to deal with an inferior product and patients too stupid to follow orders or to lazy to do anything on their behalf to save their own life.

To increase life expectancy you might want to address our being the fattest, laziest country on the planet.

@Tiberius…”take 30% off the top of our healthcare costs because of defensive medicine practiced by physicians in order to avoid malpractice suits.”

You are in a Repugican induced dream world…the cost of defensive medicine is an issue but a small one. The latest estimate from Health Affairs puts it at $46.5 billion which added to malpractice premiums runs the ENTIRE liability cost to $55.6 Billion. At 307 million people that’s about $181 per year or about 2.5% of the $7538 total per capita cost.

As for that 20% because our “our freedom to do really, really stupid things to ourselves that other countries regulate” that’s just absurd.

@Tiberius…your should read the Canadian article in the Denver Post too…it points out that we have the…

“most bureaucratic health care system in the world. More than 31 percent of every dollar spent on health care in the U.S. goes to paperwork, overhead, CEO salaries, profits, etc. The provincial single-payer system in Canada operates with just a 1 percent overhead.”

That means that we spend $2,336 per year per person to run the health insurance companies.
