Over at Human Events, Jim Hoft had the same reaction I did to the Obama administration’s announcement Friday that it will only selectively enforce our immigration laws.
That is, Hoft remembered all the way back to…when was it? Oh yes: a whole 25 days earlier, when President Obama said this to La Raza activists:
THE PRESIDENT: Now, I swore an oath to uphold the laws on the books, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know very well the real pain and heartbreak that deportations cause. I share your concerns and I understand them. And I promise you, we are responding to your concerns and working every day to make sure we are enforcing flawed laws in the most humane and best possible way. Now, I know some people want me to bypass Congress and change the laws on my own. (Applause.) And believe me, right now dealing with Congress –
AUDIENCE: Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can! Yes, you can!
THE PRESIDENT: Believe me — believe me, the idea of doing things on my own is very tempting.
(Laughter.)
I promise you. Not just on immigration reform.
(Laughter.)
But that’s not how — that’s not how our system works.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Change it!
When the president of the United States says, “I swore an oath to uphold the laws,” he’s not supposed to follow it with a “but.”
But apparently that’s how our system works now.
Last year, Obama and the Democrats tried to pass the DREAM Act, which would accomplish some of the same goals as the administration’s new flouting of immigration law. There are some reasonable arguments on the side of the law’s proponents — just as there are some reasonable arguments on the side of its opponents who point out the obvious: that creating a great big new incentive to skirt our legal immigration avenue, without any better enforcement of the border and other immigration law, is only going to worsen illegal immigration and its associated problems.
But as is this administration’s wont, when “our system” didn’t deliver the desired results, the solution was to give in to “temptation” and take matters into its own hands. And that should be considered wholly unreasonable, whichever side of the DREAM Act debate you land on.
So, now we know there’s a broader reason for Obama to complain nonstop about the difficulty of working with Congress. It’s not just an excuse for his sagging approval ratings. It’s a rationale for circumventing Congress and doing whatever he likes.

How’s that 13 percent approval rating for Congress working for ya, Kyle. And I too read about the release of those two teenagers that were arrested and jailed because their parents brought them to Georgia illegally. If only they had murdered or raped or robbed or broke some law besides just being here, wouldn’t you feel so much better knowing that those tax dollars were going for keeping such criminals behind bars! The horror of it all! Isn’t that right, Kyle.

phil that may be the dumbest outlook I’ve ever heard, that was stupid even for a bedwetter. The legal drivers that get caught in fatal accidents are punished by local laws, if a driver does not have a drivers licence and someone else causes the accident, it is still his fault, the law views it as the accident would have never happened had that person not been on the road illegally to start with. Is that dumbed down enough for you or do you need the first grade version.

Unfortunately, Obama is not the only official who selectively obeys or enforces the laws of our Country. Law enforcement, overall, is a mess in America precisely because of these attitudes. Whenever anyone running for public office pledges to be a strict “law and order” person, the civil rights activists spring into action with cries of “racist” and other slurs. The net result of this is the law enforcement mess we see around us.

Presidents have been doing end runs around Congress for years. The debt ceiling debate exposed how routine matters have become pitched battles, and even when there is a result it’s more of a punt than a solution. The immigration issue didn’t pop up overnight. It’s been brewing since the ’80’s. Congress has been unable to pass realistic, workable immigration reform. Now the Executive branch is trying to cobble together solutions to fill the gaps.
The take-no-prisoners and never-compromise attitude has come home to roost.

While I agree in principle that the laws on the books should be enforced or changed. in practice all Administrations decide which ones to aggressively pursue and which to not. For those with short term memories the last Republican Administration decided not to enforce the existing financial regulations and see where that got us. As to the current question…if there are 300,000 pending cases and not enough funding to pursue them all, some form of prioritization is required.

So we will once again have a national debate on immigration policy, the sides will again refuse to compromise, and we will continue to do what we have done for the past 25 years.
So I trust everyone is comfortable with the present policies and will not insist their congressmen and Senators compromise on a policy.
We seem to have had more of a commitment to deportations in the last dozen years than we had previously. Under Clinton we were deporting under 200,000 people annually. That started to change under Bush 43 and in his last FY,2008, there were 369,221 deportations. Under Obama the numbers have continued to increase, 387,790 in FY 2009 and 393,000 in FY 2010.
But caution on the numbers. This is actual deportations. It does not include ordered deportations that have not been completed because the subject is in a state or federal prison for a felony conviction.

It’s about time! People brought here as children had no say in the matter and should be handled differently than those who entered improperly as adults. It’s a waste of our time and tax dollars to “detain” them while they await hearings. “Detain” is really a misnomer as they are actually in prison. In private FOR-PROFIT prisons! Tax-payers pay about $90 per day, while share-holders earn $$. Most, are good people – self supporting & hard working – who contribute to our society. Let them get an education, work and contribute. We have enough American born slackers sitting around (on welfare & in prison) thinking they are better than immigrants.

Yes I was disgusted by that. I am not a republican..when republicans act like liberals I attack them with even more hatred and zeal than a lib because they are traitors to the cause. After one rather repugnant op-ed by apparently the only cop in Uvalda, GA, I decided to boycott vidalia onions and I may well raid and loot the town while Barney Fife is asleep, since he said he leaves the town utterly defenseless anytime he has to transport a illegal to the lockup 25 miles away (per the op-ed). For clarification purposes, I am AGAINST illegal immigration. I just think the easiest and best way to discourage illegal immigrants is to deny them jobs by REQUIRING (at a federal level) the use of e-verify. Because I also believe there are some jobs that Americans WILL NOT DO, I support immigration reform to allow more legal immigration.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement statistics show that deportations have increased dramatically from 189,000 in 2001 to 387,000 in 2009. Much of the increase results from deportations of people who haven’t committed serious crimes, according to Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.
This year, however, that trend took a sharp turn, according to an Aug. 12 TRAC report.
The number of criminal immigrants removed by ICE “climbed to an all-time high,” the report said. In fiscal 2010, which began Oct. 1, “The removal pace of criminal aliens … is fully 60% higher than in the last year of the Bush administration, and at least a third (37%) higher than in the first year of the Obama administration.”

Of course when our grandparents came, all they had to do to do so legally was show up at Ellis Is. and not have T.B.. But, wouldn’t the sick “wop” or “wetback” fall under the tired, poor, wretched refuse? The great majority of the undocumented are a lot healthier than a lot of our lazy, xbox playing, junk eating youth. Most of them came here to feed their kids, and have risked life and savings to do our menial work,(which we will not do) only to have some hope of bettering their families outlook. How can anyone argue that if you break the law, it’s ok? I guess the cop should let me out of a speeding ticket but that doesn’t happen. Why are people for illegal immigrants being here? If you took away all of the illegal immigrants, the jobless rates might look a lot better. But who cares about that as long as someone braking the law daily can continue to break the law? Obama says that to take a person raised in this country and send them to another is not fair to the child as they dont know the language or country.
My response:
Dear President Obama.
You swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States of America and that number one objective is US Security and and Border Control. This child may have been brought here, BUT the parents were not. My thoughts are, go to the home of this student, take the parents and deport all of them. Dont for one minute think that a child brought here from Mexico or where ever does not speak the language because they communicate with their parents who do NOT speak English. So you point of those kids not being able to communicate is yet another lie. They communicate quite nicely. The home should be raided and parents and child sent back. The child will not be turned to a country they dont know alone. The parents (criminals) will be with them. And probably lots of their family are there to give them shelter.
I believe in immigration but I am tired of being taken advantage of and supporting what seems to be a complete country of illegals. Were living under a rock during the GW Bush administration? Your ilk gave him more grief than the American public has ever given Obama. The majority of American citizens (including illegals and deceased) gave Obama everything by voting him into office. The accolades Obama received by being given his Presidency on a silver platter far outweighs any grief he is getting now. The American public has given Obama the Easy Button, until now …
GWB was not able to get Amnesty for Illegals just as BHO will not get the DREAM Act. The DREAM Act is just that – a DREAM! It will not happen. Obama knows it will not happen! He is just running his mouth ad naseum in hopes something he says will stick.
President Obama needs to spend his final days in office focus on this little problem called THE ECONOMY! Screw the illegals, let them fend for themselves like the rest of Americans have had to do!
In fact, President Obama can do US all a favor and announce he will not run for office. It is the only thing that will help our country and ensure we are on a path to recovery. It is disgusting that the Congressional approval rating is 13%. You seem to forget that half of Congress is Democrats, in the Senate they have control. Maybe the 13% who like them are all Democratic.
Congressional approval is always abysmally low due to the fact that most of these jokers are corrupt, inept, ner do wells, who have nothing better to do with their time than pimp themselves to the special interest groups. The incumbents only are concerned with getting themselves reelected and remaining on the gravy train. Any effort to dislodge them is legislated against by the incumbents. Nice place to hang your hat if you are slimy enough to worm your way in. Solutions?

The tone of the comments here and the current sad state of partisan politics brought a question to my mind. What would Reagan do?
Better yet what did he do…
In a televised debate with Democratic presidential nominee Walter Mondale in 1984, Reagan said “I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally.”
in 1986, Ronald Reagan signed a sweeping immigration reform bill into law. It was originally sold as a crackdown: There would be tighter security at the Mexican border, and employers would face strict penalties for hiring undocumented workers. Any of that sound familiar? Only problem is the crackdown part was stripped from the final bill and the only thing that was left in the bill Reagan signed was this…
The bill made any immigrant who’d entered the country before 1982 eligible for amnesty.
Over time 2.9 million people took advantage of this program.
Seems to me Republicans of today would be best served by examining their “roots” and acting a bit more responsibly on the issue….
Just do what Reagan did. How could a true Republican disagree?

What about the illegal play boy that stabbed his own children to death in Lawrenceville or the instance in Lilburn where the illegal meth lady fried her children to a crisp. Fine example of illegals.

Dems must be getting desperate, out of ideas, as they suddenly quote Reagan quite frequently.
Reagan has a big heart and wanted what was best for America. His Amnesty plan, like the road to hell, was paved with good intentions. He promised a one time, never again, Amnesty as long as congress tightened the borders and enforced the immigration laws. He was often lied to by congress and once again, he got shafted. He was gullible when the Dems made promises and shook his hand and being the cowboy he was thought that their intentions were honorable. They played him like a sucker.
He promised never again and I agree with him. No amnesty, more legal immigration is acceptable, but they need to go home and apply. How do you get them to go home, easy, $50,000 fine on any employer caught with an undocumented worker on the payroll. We simply can not afford to take in the world anymore.

I do not support illegal immigration. There is no basis for people to walk into the country through holes in the fence at the borders or in some shipping container. However, there is no moral imperative to deport a person who was brought here by their parents at age two years.
There is no moral imperative to deport someone who has been here for thirty years building up America. There is no moral imperative to deport someone on the verge of getting a college degree
to be used to build up America.
Right wing Taliban would hide under the rubric of the law to do the most immoral things.
America is about compassion, fairness, the pursuit of happiness, and immigration can not
be about rounding them up and locking them up.
Right wing Taliban would surely like to see all people of color deported, but the reality is

On February 1, 2010, President Obama delivered his Fiscal Year 2011 budget to the GOP lead Congress.
From an immigration standpoint, the President’s 2011 budget is designed to “strengthen border security and immigration enforcement by supporting 20,000 Border Patrol agents, adding 300 new officers at ports of entry, completing the first segment of the virtual border fence, and by enhancing and expanding immigration verification systems.”
Compared to last year’s 2010 budget, there are fewer dollars directed towards making the legal immigration process more efficient or supporting legal immigrants. In fact, from an immigration perspective, the President’s 2011 budget is dismal, focusing strictly on security and enforcement.
That budget included: $4.6 billion to support 20,000 Border Patrol agents and complete the first segment of Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP) virtual border fence.
Includes $94 million for 300 new CBP Officers for passenger and cargo screening at ports of entry as well as expansion of pre-screening operations at foreign airports and land ports of entry.
More than $1.6 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement programs to expeditiously identify and remove from the United States illegal aliens who commit crimes. Included in this total is continued support for the Secure Communities program.
$137 million for enhancements and expansion of immigration related verification programs (E-Verify) at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Support for integration of new immigrants with $18 million identified to promote citizenship through education and preparation programs, replication of promising practices in integration for use by communities across the Nation, and expansion of innovative English learning tools.

Kyle,
Just days ago you suggested the following:
1. Make some phone calls.
Not to business leaders, but to his own Cabinet secretaries.
In a recent appearance on Fox News, a former chief economist for the Labor Department, Diana Furchtgott-Roth, said Obama could “make things a lot easier on employers and on hiring” by telling the bureaucracy to stop making new rules that crimp businesses.
“He could call EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and say, ‘Why don’t we just hold off on those new ozone rules, or clean air rules, until the unemployment rate is down to 7 percent?’ ,” Furchtgott-Roth said.
“He could call his Interior secretary and say, ‘Why don’t we just allow more oil drilling in the Gulf [of Mexico]?’ Because there’s been a moratorium since the BP oil spill — that’s about a year and a half ago.
“He could tell his National Labor Relations Board acting general counsel, Lafe Solomon, ‘Hey, why don’t you just lay off Boeing?’ Because Boeing wants to open a new plant in South Carolina to build [787] Dreamliners, and [Solomon] says they can only a new plant in Washington state, where they have their existing plant.”
The list, she said, is long. “Each cabinet secretary is doing things that impede businesses from creating jobs.”

Your references to “no moral imperative” and your scare tactic rhetoric (”like to see all people of color deported”) ring VERY hollow. There is moral imperative to defend our borders, our Constitution, and the rule of law. This is a fundamental responsibility of our Federal government, but the problem is people, not government. People think it’s OK to employee illegal labor for their own benefit, and they corrupt the political process. People think it’s OK to provide safe harbor for other people here illegally, and that corrupts our rule of law and our economy. People think it’s ok to take political support from the labor racketeers profiting off of illegal labor, like our current and past Presidents have done, and that corrupts our political process and Constitution. People think it’s OK for other people (taxpayers) to provide education and health care for other people here illegally, and that corrupts everything including the moral fiber of our country. Illegal immigration is a cancer growing within our nation. And why do you assume the problem is with “people of color”? Check the rolls of the SEIU some time and see what turns up.

A lot of folks call others names but are unable or unwilling to debate the issue. That’s OK.
Few of the commenters want to resolve the immigration issue. Most want the current policies to remain just as they are today.
Of course Obama is selectively enforcing federal law. What president has not done that? Obama makes 44 in a row. See the Washington administration. The Adams administration. The Jefferson administration.
The problem is that Congress allows the practice to continue. The President & VP are the only nationally elected federal officials. Everyone else represents a district or a State. Intimidation?

They tried to get the UN to approve of the 2nd invasion for WMDs and when they wouldn’t pass a resolution for it, Bush and Cheney said “oh well, we’re going to invade anyway.” They used the first UN resolution to justify their invasion. So you see, Kyle, you’re selective in your criticism.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Representative Edward Markey (D-Mass.) its July 2011 Porker of the Month for accusing proponents of federal spending cuts of indifference toward potential victims of weather emergencies. On July 19, 2011, Rep. Markey issued a press release in which he accused House Republicans of “foolishly cutting funding for our nation’s weather and climate forecasters.” According to Rep. Markey, reducing expenditures for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – which contains the National Weather Service (NWS) – “won’t change the climate or end a heat wave, but … will lengthen the time it takes to alert our citizens about an incoming storm, or reduce our ability to give our nation’s farmers the information they need to manage their crops.” Rep. Markey added, “When a tornado or other deadly weather event is bearing down on you, minutes matter. Yet these kinds of vital capabilities don’t seem to matter to House Republicans.”
Contrary to Rep. Markey’s accusations, spending at the NOAA is greater than ever, and dramatically higher than it was just a few years ago. Its budget is slated to reach $5.5 billion in fiscal year 2012, an increase of 46 percent since 2002. And private organizations have been performing many of the functions of NOAA and NWS for decades. AccuWeather, founded in 1962, hosts more meteorologists at its headquarters than any other location in the world, and the Weather Channel, founded in 1981, provides storm tracking and forecasts for 98,000 locations around the globe. Both companies disseminate vital weather information on the Internet, television, and radio 24 hours a day.

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) named Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack its August 2011 Porker of the Month for asserting that the Department of Agriculture’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, qualifies as economic stimulus drives economic growth. In an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on August 16, 2011, Sec. Vilsack called SNAP “an economic stimulus,” explaining that “every dollar of SNAP benefits generates $1.84 in the economy in terms of economic activity.” Sec. Vilsack did not specify where he got such a precise estimate for the multiplier effects of SNAP

According to a 2010 cost study by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the estimated annual total of the costs related to illegal immigration that taxpayers must bear on the federal, state and local levels in $113 BILLION. Of that, $84 BILLION at state and local levels. This breaks down to approximately $1,000 per tax-paying American household. An average 27 percent of this dollar figure has to do with the administration of justice, while 16 percent are public assistance expenditures. Twenty-one percent go to medical care and an estimated seven percent support education.

WASHINGTON (AP) – No one can be sure who controls the Libyan government’s weapons stockpiles, a stew of deadly chemicals, raw nuclear material and some 30,000 shoulder-fired rockets that officials fear could fall into terrorists’ hands in the chaos of Moammar Gadhafi’s downfall or afterward.
One immediate worry, U.S. intelligence and military officials say, is that Gadhafi might use the weapons to make a last stand. But officials also face the troubling prospect that the material, which was left under Gadhafi’s control by a U.S.-backed disarmament pact, could be obtained by al-Qaida or other militants even after a rebel victory is secured.
The main stockpile of mustard gas and other chemicals, stored in corroding drums, is at a site southeast of Tripoli. Mustard gas can cause severe blistering and death. A cache of hundreds of tons of raw uranium yellowcake is stored at a small nuclear facility east of the capital.

“Did Bush and Cheney use a UN resolution from the first Gulf war to invade Iraq? That is different from talking about Congressional resolution. I am not sure Darwin is exactly right, but the fact is that Bush acted without a UN resolution authorizing the invasion. He did have Congressional authorization – sort of. I hope we are not going to rehash that question here.

The Obamas’ summer break on Martha’s Vineyard has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple arrived four hours apart on separate government jets.
But according to new reports, this is the least of their extravagances.
White House sources today claimed that the First Lady has spent $10million of U.S. taxpayers’ money on vacations alone in the past year.
Michelle Obama, has been accused of spending $10m of public money on vacations
they say the 47-year-old mother-of-two has been indulging in five-star hotels, where she splashes out on expensive massages and alcohol.
‘When it’s all added up, she’s spent more than $10million in taxpayers’ money on her vacations.’
The First Lady is believed to have taken 42 days of holiday in the past year, including a $375,000 break in Spain and a four-day ski trip to Vail, Colorado, where she spent $2,000 a night on a suite at the Sebastian hotel.
And the first family’s nine-day stay in Martha’s Vineyard is also proving costly, with rental of the Blue Heron Farm property alone costing an estimated $50,000 a week.
‘Michelle also enjoys drinking expensive booze during her trips. She favours martinis with top-shelf vodka and has a taste for rich sparking wines.

Kyle, I’m going to agree with an earlier poster and say that elected officials have always tried (some more successfully than others) to selectively enforce laws on the books.
The problem becomes when someone sets the standards so high when coming into office and proclaiming that they will be so ethical and open and above board – then do the same thing that others have done.
There is also a difference in not funding something (like a law you didn’t agree with but can’t overturn) vs. selectively enforcing a law for one group, and not for another group, which is I think the point you were trying to make. If you can’t treat everybody the same, regardless of your dislike for the law, then you lose the moral high ground when wanting to rail about equality issues.

“Circumventing” is not breaking the law or you could lock him up. It is very similar to hijacking the law like the Tea Party, but neither is breaking the law. Obama could have used the constitution to raise the debt ceiling but chose not to. In doing so he showed huge resolve. In this he did not circumvent Congress. Only when it would have harmed individuals like slavery and child labor did he intervene. Now the bullies are calling foul as if they were the harmed party. Man are the Republicans geniuses at being the victims even when they start the fights and are the cause of what they complain about. If you don’t like what Obama is doing vote him out of office, at lease you have that available to you, most of the nation have to suffer the pirates of the Tea Party with no recourse.

I teach at an elementary school, and while I feel that most immigrant children are in many ways easier to teach (more motivated, better behaved, and at this level–feel less entitled), I also believe that our school systems are grossly over-burdened. If English isn’t spoken by their parents at home, English is considered the child’s second language. It doesn’t matter how well the child speaks English. Therefore, these children and their parents are entitled to every service (ESOL, translators, etc.) the school system can offer. Motivation to learn English is not created this way.
With that said, I would like to see our country return to an immigration policy that existed in the late 1800s and early 1900s. People were not allowed in this country unless they currently had a family member sponsor them (somewhere they could live–and someone who would financially support them until they were able to support themselves), or they already had a job in this county waiting for them. Most came through Ellis Island and were required to pass a physical examination before they were allowed on the mainland. I also believe our government had an established number of immigrants allowed in the country annually. With fewer numbers, assimilation was gradual, thus not over-burdening the country.
Government entitlements didn’t exist back then; thus, ALL people were more motivated to get a job–any job. Everything was printed in English–no translators! In order to survive in this country, ALL immigrants were very motivated to learn the language of their new country–and they were proud to do so!!
Our legislators have ruined this country by advocating “government dependence” for all. They have killed the motivation of many of the residents of this country.
I do believe illegal immigrants should be deported; they broke the law! Congress should get busy eliminating/limiting all welfare programs, particularly to non-citizens. This would definitely curtail illegal immigration. Jobs that would be vacated by illegal immigrants could then be filled by U.S. citizens. Some say U.S. citizens wouldn’t want these jobs– if the welfare programs were curtailed/eliminated, they wouldn’t have much of a choice now, would they?
Quite honestly, I’m so very tired of the “entitlement mentality” that has been created in this county (BY OUR GOVERNMENT)–somebody needs to do something about it! Get rid of entitlements, and illegal immigration will take care of itself!!!

But I want to offer a comment on the last part: “I’m so very tired of the “entitlement mentality” that has been created in this county (BY OUR GOVERNMENT)–somebody needs to do something about it!”
When you blame THE GOVERNMENT, you write as if it were some occupying force. The “government” consists of people we have elected. And while you may disagree with some policies, there are many people who agree with them. We have a democracy (and please do not tell me that we do not, that we have a republic), and in a democracy people are the source of the power, and decide (through their representatives, in a republic) what policy they want to be pursued. In other words, if you are opposed to any “entitlement,” but the majority of people are in favor, and make it happen through their representatives, what you want to DO about it? Certainly you can present your arguments, but your “somebody needs to do something about it” does not sound like a demand for a debate.

And the conspiracy theorist 9/11 truther just proved why the level of discussion over at Bookman’s has degraded to 5th grade. They have their little fun, but they simply won’t discuss issues seriously anymore.

No, itsmeagain, I think Kyle is saying that SELECTIVE enforcement based on political expediency while treating people inequitably is the problem here.

Not a US Citizen,
Sorry about all that; I really am. The last time amnesty was granted was 1986. A Democrat Congress wanted it, and Reagan agreed with the all-too-frequent Congressional guarantee that funding would be provided to enforce border security. As we see in the promise to cut “future” spending in return for a vote on tax increases, like the promise to “fund” social security (or like the promise that it IS funded), we also see that in this instance, Congress could not be trusted.
It’s not that we are against another amnesty. Most of us aren’t, and we certainly need to make the rules easier for future citizens who really want to be here as Americans. What we are against is our own government that will gladly grant amnesty and yet refuse, as ever to carry out its own promises by which it secures the border (finally) and support for the measure in the first place.
We Tea Partyers know this failing to promise very well, hence our vigilance, particularly about spending.
Democrats will do whatever is politically expedient for the victim du jour.

Georgia has some very strict anti-illegal immigrant rules now, but the federal government will not allow states to protect themselves from the burdens/costs of illegal immigration. Yet our politicians continue to fail us in protecting and securing our borders.
Unfortunately, Obama and the Democrats continue to fight these anti-illegal immigrant rules. They put the interests of illegal aliens before those of US citizens that need jobs to support their families. They continue to force local taxpayers to fund the K-12 educations (and in some states they subsidize college educations) of the children of illegal aliens. Obama has now implemented the “Dream” Act which has not been approved by Congress.
Obama and the Democrats have just put in place new policies that provide the US with an open borders immigration environment. Now, Illegal aliens regardless of age, will not be deported unless they have been convicted of a felony.
We continue these policies along with adding more legal immigrants than the number of new jobs being created in the US. All this is happening during a time of severe unemployment. Unemployment is much higher than the 10% figure stated in the news because so many US citizens have given up hope of finding a job to support their families.
We can’t even provide for our own citizens! We have a huge national deficit yet we continue with entitlement/welfare programs that are unsustainable. Since we can take care of our own citizens, why should be responsible for the citizens of other countries?

@Rafe who wrote:
“Dems must be getting desperate, out of ideas, as they suddenly quote Reagan quite frequently.
Reagan has a big heart and wanted what was best for America.”
Rafe I quote Reagan to try and give you some idea of how far removed from reality today’s Republican party has become. On one hand they worship the man and on the other in today’s environment a candidate EXACTLY like him would be branded a “liberal” and tossed on the rubbish heap. As for his heart and wanting the best for America. However misguided he was I did not question his motives. I do question the motives of today’s Republicans. They are driven by greed, power and “winning” at all costs. They do not have America’s best interests at heart.
As for this bit…”He was gullible when the Dems made promises and shook his hand and being the cowboy he was thought that their intentions were honorable.”
I think you will find that like all immigration reform when it came down to brass tacks the Republican corporate lobby was the driving force behind stripping the law of its teeth. They are the ones that don’t want the burden of enforcing legality on the job nor do they want to lose the labor.
As for LLB, the only childish fairy tales I see here are coming from Rafe. BTW does dissing a Republican God get you time in the penalty box with those guys in Cherokee County?

There has been greater things that a person says before they actually do it…now immigration reform is back at center stage. The bottom line to this whole thing is, the United States Immigration Laws; already a known fact and there should be nothing else said about it! You have to apply to become United States Citizens; anything less then applying legally, then those people of all races who are here in the United States illegally, ae subject to the immigration laws and deporation. The President does not have to make this an issue nor give anything other than the truth about those who are here undocumented. As U.S. citizens, we cannot go to other countries illegally, so why make Immigration a big issues?

Yes, um, the EPA is part of the Executive Branch. However, EPA is called a regulatory agency because Congress has GRANTED authority to write regulations necessary to implement environmental laws.
The EPA was created by Richard M. Nixon.
Regarding who is in control of the EPA. I think it’s obvious that whomever donates the most cash, i.e. Oil, Pharmaceutical, Agriculture and Chemical companies — regardless of what party controls the WH, Senate or Congress.

If the voters do not turn this person out in November of 2012, the country will probably be doomed as anyone born prior to 2000 would be able to recall. Whether conscious of the reasons for coming to the U.S. or not almost all come for the opportunities, not guaranteed, for unlimited success. When such people do not follow the legal steps and the commonly accepted ways of the majority of the people their liklihood of being successful is very limited and the country’s value’s are lowered if and when they are permitted to remain or stay illegally. There is no way this should be permitted and would not be if existing laws were enforced. When the CEO of the country states that such laws will not activily be inforced or any other similar laws, that lack of following sworn duties indicates impeachment, conviction, and removal from office.

I have a question for MarkV. Are we going to force the undocumented illegal aliens to purchase health care insurance also? Or do they get an exemption from the unconstitutional “individual mandate?”

We need to keep in mind the immigration policy issues cross party lines. The solution is not just turning out Obama; we need to be very mindful of who and what follows, and there is a LOT of political realignment needed within the GOP.

Re: WIC program (Lil Barry 9:34 pm). I have it on good authority the State of Georgia is currently beefing up its WIC fraud investigative staff. As a conservative, it’s hard to argue the good intentions of this program. I just hope for everyone’s sake the corruption can be checked.
