I remember seeing many things during the fast-paced day I once spent in Oslo: a 12-centuries-old Viking ship; the freaky sculptures at Vigeland Park; the hall where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded each year; a can of Coca-Cola priced at the equivalent of $4 at an honest-to-goodness Seven-Eleven.
But the image that keeps returning to my mind today — after hearing that reports that several people were gunned down at an island youth camp, following a bombing near the Norwegian parliament building — is of a stroller.
It was sitting alone outside the entrance to a store in downtown Oslo. And, yes, there was a baby in it. As hard as it is for most Americans to believe, the trust among Norwegians, my wife and I learned, was such that a mother could leave an infant in a stroller outside the store while she shopped.
How shattered that trust must be today.

Apparently, we didn’t take a photo (my wife recalls that the mother exited the store by the time we got the camera out) but there’s a similar image on this blog (nine photos down, as I write this): http://jannelleisstillalive.tumblr.com/

The current picture of the poor woman with her face covered in blood is the one that will be burned in my mind for a while. What on earth prompted this? Not as if terrorist need a reason, they pretty much have decided they’ll attack anything Western. Is it just because of what the article said about them arresting the cleric? This is getting insane. How many countries have to go through their own 9-11 before enough is enough?

We may have the EEC, China, and a splintered Middle East and a beleaguered USA finessing back room deals, (do you really doubt it?) but how long before splinter groups who refuse to coalesce are totally antagonized/alienated or just too tempted not to back off this one time?
Of interest though is how most media outlets are already pointing fingers at Islam’s direction, it reeks of too convenient rhetoric, the same type of rhetoric that has us arriving at blood stained footpaths in Oslo this evening. The city of peace makes the irony all too palpable…

I’m saddened to know that in a time where a country is mourning the loss of people in such a tragic way, people here have nothing better to do than leave snide comments or their own political views. What happened to the time where everyone simply banded together in mourning the loss of people, regardless of their race or nationality? Leave the religion and politics out of it, and try to have some compassion for the people who’ve lost their friends, family, and loved ones.

For all who wish to make a big deal of the fact that this killer was a Christian, you may want to take into account that probably 95% of Norwegians are Christians. Lutheran is the National religion of Norway and almost all Norwegians claim to be Christians. There are other religions present in Norway, but Norway is one of the least diverse countries racially, and culturally, in the Western World. Most who claim a religion other than Christianity are in a very small group of immigrants to the country.

It is probably a waste of time, certainly a waste to defend a religion that needs no defense but for the sake of stating accurate facts that most who would use this kind of incident to attack Christianity are either 1) ignorant of – willingly or otherwise 2) have an agenda to propagandize that they are willing to lie for in efforts to promote it.
A Christian by definition is a Christ-like person, whose words and actions are exactly those of Christ. This person in Norway doesn’t appear Christ-like now do they?
Then this attacker wasn’t actually a “Christian”: Misguided follower of the Christian faith perhaps but as to being a Christian… Not even a remote chance.

If Germany had won WW2, (and they should have won because they sank all our battleships, man), but if Germany had won, then today, there would probably be a uniting of Muslim and Nazi ideology. Smith brings up an interesting point. What is a Christian? Is it bumper sticker that reads, “WWJD”?
Or is it someone who accepts that the crucifixion itself was man’s destiny of The Self. Ourselves’ greatest moment. Total victory over God and the Roman empire was saved from the Jew.
A Christian is some who ascertains that Roman gods continue to rule. Money. Life. Power. Sex. The Roman empire is alive and well today, merely keeping up with tech. A divine geek squad.
A Christian is someone who knows the righteousness of The Self. A Christian’s duty is to define evil in others and then crush them. And God applauds the effort, of course.
There exists no Christ-like emulation in history. There exists only Christians. Look how many perpetuate themselves at the expense of less -worthy others. The spectral opposite of the parables.
There’s going to be a reckoning of selves. So Go and Save yourselves: Give your possessions to the poor, go back to the crucifixion, and start over.
Only then can you be saved from the shared eternal destiny of The Christianhood of Selves.

“Nazis?
Those on the left and particularly the lame-stream-media writers that propagate the NAZIS as right-wing need to do their homework: 1) NAZI are Socialist, which means they are left-wing 2) The NAZIS barrowed heavily from the American PROGRESSIVES a.k.a. Woodrow Wilson socialists – again leftwingers! ”
This ridiculous meme has been espoused by only one author, Doughy Pantload himself,
Jonah Goldberg, in his laughable book “Liberal Fascism”. It has been completely panned by serious historians (and anybody who actually knows what fascism is). It was a sorry partisan attempt at distancing the American right wing from its increasing association with traditionally fascist policies such as ultra-nationalism, corporatism, scapegoating of minorites, increased central power (i.e. Bush’s attempt to expand the power of the Presidency), etc. The book and its moronic premise now serves to supply ammunition (even though they would be shooting blanks) to the intellectually barren on the right.
That you, Michael Smith, would repeat the nonsense that drips from the Doughy Pantload’s trouser cuffs onto his shoes, speaks volumes about your poor ability to discern fact from rightwing partisan fiction. You are the only one who needs to do any homework.

Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann both appeal to the hate crowd based on scripts right out of Mein Kampf . Little Barry Bailout cannot handle that fact. Now if Obama could be proven to believe and practice the Jeremiah Wright venom we would have comparable bigots and potential despots.

Very much to the contrary on everything YOU under a fictitious name have said.
To the point. What does the acronym NAZI stand for, “intellectually barren say what one”?
Nazi Party
The National Socialist German Workers’ Party (German: About this sound Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (help·info), abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English as the Nazi Party, was a political party in Germany between 1919 and 1945.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_Party
Core to the American PROGRESSIVES of Woodrow Wilson era was eugenics. Did Hitler and the NAZIS practice eugenics? Only a Holocaust denier would say they didn’t.
Now fictitious YOU may be fixated by this who is it, Doughy Pantload
Jonah Goldberg as some kind of sole source for my information. Unfortunately for YOU and YOUR ignorance, there is an undeniable a butt-load of history “ALONE” that defies the absolute hell out of everything fictitious say what YOU have said in attempts to defend YOUR deplorable left-wing socialism and those leftwinger NAZIS, The National Socialist German Workers’ Party.

Anyone but say what knows actual fascism was a definite sorry partisan attempt and was accomplished in some areas BY PROGRESSIVE SOCIALIST WOODROW WILSON who increased association with traditionally fascist policies such as ultra-nationalism, anti- market based capitalism, scapegoating of minorities and increased central power. There after FDR and LBJ made there fascist socialist contributions.
Who segregated the U.S. Military?
Who kept blacks from employment in civil service jobs?
Who brought on swiping central power and government controls through regulations?
Why do we even have a debt ceiling to debate today?!

Productive reading for minds intellectually superior to that of “say what?”
Leftists, Progressives and Socialists
by Walter E. Williams
While America’s leftists, socialists and communists condemn Hitler, they give the world’s most horrible murderers a pass. First, they make a false distinction between fascism, communism and socialism but more importantly, they sympathize with the socioeconomic goals of communism and socialism. The primary goal of communism and socialism is government ownership or control over the means of production. In the U.S., only a few people call for outright government ownership of the means of production. They might have learned that government ownership would mess things up. Instead, they’ve increasingly called for quasi-ownership through various forms of government regulation, oversight, taxation and subsidies. After all, if someone has the power to tell you how you may use your property, it’s tantamount to his owing it.
I believe most Americans find the ideals and principles of socialism, communism and progressivism repugnant, but by our sanctioning greater government centralization and its control over our lives, we become their dupes or, as Lenin said, “useful idiots.”

First of all SHOW YOU JUST ONE I’m not some kind of answer boy to YOU but for your angry lack of biblical intelligent information there is no way a hate group or a person with the type hate you are referring to can be a Christian, according to the Judeo-Christian bible.
But thirdly just to go one up on you to antagonize, I can show you just one common thread that appears in the fabric of all hate groups, which includes fascist, socialist and communist and do so in one word: Control
Personally I want everyone to have as much individual freedom and liberty from CONTROLLING governments, groups of any kind and from other people as possible.

Michael H. Smith is one of the saddest examples of a severely deluded right-wing extremist I’ve seen on any of these fora. Not only does he spew the rewrites of history, it is evident that he actually believes what he spews. So very sad.

Michael Smith is ashamed of his fascist tendencies and so projects them onto his perceived “enemies”.
While historically the rise of fascism included figures from the political left and right, historians agree it evolved into a right wing phenomena. All the crap Smith is posting is the same kind of intellectual dishonesty frequently seen on these boards that equate the ideology of the previous generation of southern Democrats (who are all now Republicans) with today’s southern Democrats.
