Some good stories I haven’t gotten around to sharing
11:49 am July 21, 2011, by Kyle Wingfield
On this blog, I try to share my own opinions as well as highlight and comment upon (and link to) the work of other journalists and commentators. I think that’s one of the strengths of the blog format.
That said, in any given week there are a lot of good articles I don’t get around to passing along to y’all. I’m not considering a daily set of links like a lot of blogs do, but I am toying with the idea of doing an occasional or maybe even weekly ICYMI-type roundup of these otherwise unmentioned articles.
I’m going to experiment with it today. Feel free to let me know whether you think this is useful, enjoyable, or if there’s a way to improve it.
And away we go:
- Noemie Emery says universal social programs were bound to fail because people came to view goods and services as rights.
- USA Today reports that the federal government fired or laid off just 0.55 percent of its workers in the last budget year.
- Another executive, this time Atlanta’s Bernie Marcus, says the Obama administration’s policies and rhetoric are hurting the economy. (See a similar story that did make the blog earlier this week.)
- Guess who is the leading all-time recipient of campaign contributions by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and its employees?
- And guess who really does accept campaign contributions from lobbyists despite his rhetoric about not doing so?
If there’s an appetite for this, I’ll try to expand it and extend it to local and state stories in the future.

I like the idea. Could you add in one link that is simply factual though? For instance, the debt ceiling nonsense is going on. How about a link to what new spending actually caused the debt. No commentary or spin, just data.

Yes MiltonBoy, the ACLU has defended many people and organizations that I’m personally opposed to. They defend constitutionally guaranteed rights for EVERYONE.
Climb those steps and come on up out of your momma’s basement now. Some fresh air and sunshine might do you good. On the other hand it’s hot enough that you might suffer a heat stroke and that’s just Clorox for the gene pool.

JF: That’s not a bad idea, although your specific example (”what new spending actually caused the debt”) implies a kind of judgment. But I can certainly include a link to raw spending data, tax receipt data, or info on other topics.

***Jay Carney, White House Press Secretary:
“The economy has vastly improved since Obozo took office.”
Keep feeding your liberal lemmings who follow Obozo lockstep.***
Anybody who doesn’t know this can’t know much. A simple look at rate of economic contraction/expansion clearly shows the economy has improved over the last two years. What kind of idiot does it take to dispute something this basic and well documented? Seriously, if you can’t even tell up from down, stop wasting electrons posting your ignorance here.

Yes, I agree, 10% unemployment, 1% economic growth, a collapsed housing market, 14 Trillion dollars in debt and counting, rising gas and food prices, 50 million people on food stamps is what the socialists consider to be a booming economy.

Obozo’s World: We need more engineers & scientists
Real World: Engineers being laid-off by NASA, Lockheed, etc.
And why is this? Oh ya, the Rethuglicans demand smaller government, so we can’t support R&D anymore, and are taking away money from education. Because of the CONS bad policies, we have now let China overtake the U.S. in the amount of research originating from each country.
So much for the American Exceptionalism those cons constantly trumpet. What’s that sound? Oh yeah, it’s China blowing by us thanks to the Rethuglicans.

Logical dude, only half of one percent of the entire federal workforce was laid off or fired. Do you really beieve that we are getting value for our trillions with so few facing accountability for poor performance?
Red..would you rather listen to a drone who never accomplsihed anything just becasue he is poor. Put another way, would you discount the perspective of a talented, disciplined and accomplished man becasue he is rich? Are you really that dumb?

1. What is ICMYI?
2. Why not put in a link from time-to-time to liberal/progressive articles which–while you might not agree–are worthy of reading?

A record number of Americans are on food stamps. A record low percent of Americans work for a living.
This is what “success” looks like to libtards.
