About that Census worker? The one the ‘angry mob’ must have killed?

Never mind:

FRANKFORT — A U.S. Census worker found dead in a secluded Clay County [Kentucky] cemetery killed himself but tried to make the death look like a homicide, authorities have concluded.

Bill Sparkman, 51, of London, might have tried to cover the manner of his death to preserve payments under two life-insurance polices that he had taken out. The policies wouldn’t pay off if Sparkman committed suicide, state police Capt. Lisa Rudzinski said.

(snip)

Sparkman’s nude body was found Sept. 12 by people visiting the cemetery. There was a rope around his neck tied to a tree, and he had what appeared to be the word “fed” written on his chest in black marker.

His census identification card was taped to his head.

The bizarre details of the death caused a firestorm of media coverage and widespread speculation on the Internet, including that someone angry at the federal government attacked Sparkman as he went door to door, gathering census information.

There has been some anti-census sentiment in the country this year. However, FBI spokesman David Beyer said at a Frankfort news conference that there was no indication Sparkman was trying to play on that as part of his ruse. Sparkman had discussed with acquaintances recent federal investigations of alleged public corruption in Clay County, Beyer said.

One doubts that this corrective will catch up to the original story.

I just heard this on the local news. I’m surprised but pleased. I remember the speculation that tea parties and talk radio were to blame. think some of these claims may have come from your editorial staff peers, but I’m not sure of that.

Do the rightwing nuts really trust the government to investigate this? Sounds like a cover-up and conspiracy to me.

People have gone nuts–looking for other people to blame for their economic pain. The easiest people to blame are people with money. The people who blame them don’t work and so don’t have any–to them working doesn’t make sense. Why should they when the government (taxpayers) will support them anyway. Beck is just now going through all the parties at the White House this year, dozens and dozens with thousands of guests–a big cocktail party every week. Is Obama even slightly conscious of the fact that he was put in the White House to represent the people, and the people are suffering while the grand poohbah drinks, flies around for free, and just generally has a great time prancing and preening. I can’t stand this guy at all.

Just read about this on Drudge.

On a high note, looks like Dems are abandoning the SS Obama.

Are Democrats exiting the sinking ship?

Comes the news that Democratic Congressman Dennis Moore of the 3rd district of Kansas is not running for reelection. Interesting. Congressman Moore was reelected by a 56%-40% margin in 2008, and Barack Obama carried his district 51%-48%, while losing the other three congressional districts in Kansas

Joan, I hope Glenn Beck notes that Bush’s State Dinner Parties outnumber Obama’s 6 to 1. It’s amazing how the everyday runnings of the White House have no bearing on society until now. But, back to your original comment, corporate greed is what many people blame. There was a time when a company would see hard times coming and cut costs. CEO’s would lover their salaries. Companies would cut back on perks, travel, parties, etc. Now, they just cut employees so that they can maintain their own personal lifestyle. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, but today’s corporations are doing it at the full expense of the American worker.

This is the first I heard of the census worker being found dead.
I realize that “if it bleeds it leads” has long been the rule for local TV news. But is it now getting that way on national news?

Obama is holding his first State dinner tonight & I was not invited. I wonder why?

Oh the dinner is for the Head of State for India. You know India, has been in a nuclear war stare down with Pakistan for 10 years. And you know Pakistan, the new home of bin Laden & Al Qaeda and the country in a nuclear stare down with India. Now why would anyone hold a State dinner for one of two allies that is in a nuclear war stare down with the other ally?

Glenn Beck is correct, it doesn’t matter if India & Pakistan have a nuclear war, doesn’t matter if Obama is about to spend a trillion dollars in Afghanistan & a trillion dollars on health care: what matters is how many parties the White House is having.

But enough on trivial matters, lets get back to this census worker & his death.

Notice the similarity between total failure, being too big to let fail, corporate welfare & corporate greed?

Peter: It sure was a story to blog about back when everyone wanted to jump to the conclusion that right-wing talk radio had fanned the tea-party flames to the point that some random Census worker had been lynched. Mary Katharine Ham at The Weekly Standard supplies the list of conclusion-jumpers and their quotes: Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune; blogger Andrew Sullivan; MSNBC’s Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow; Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America”; and more. Read the whole thing here: http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/11/census_workers_death_was_suici.asp

How many of these people will fess up now to their hasty attempts back then to paint this incident as part of the “angry mob” and “right wing domestic terrorists”? Or will that just remain part of the background music?

The reason Democrats (myself a former Democrat who voted for Obama) are leaving the ship is that Obama is no different than Dubya: More war, more spending, hiring buddies (like Arne Duncan) for jobs in which they aren’t qualified, etc.

I’m beginning to wonder if Obama is really Dubya in a costume. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is that Obama speaks the English language properly. Not bad for a Kenyan. ;)

Actually, bipartisan forensic evidence determined that it was a suicide made to look like a “hate crime” murder. It’s rarely as sensational as the main stream media would like it to be with exception of the great, alas unsuccessful, lengths this nut job went to in order to destroy his family and put unnecessary suspicion on an innocent group of people.

It’s awful and senseless that he killed himself. However, the world doesn’t need more excuses for people to persist with classist stereotypes about crazy “hillbillies” and whatnot. The ideas that some people in other parts of the country have about Southerners drive me crazy and I’m definitely a left-leaning sort.

Anyway, the AP did publish a prominent story about his death being determined to have been a suicide and NPR did one as well.

Kyle, how many right wingers STILL believe that the Clintons had Vince Foster murdered? How many books were written or movies made that included this right-wing fantasy?

If nothing else, this smacks of a tit-for-tat.

The story about this Census worker who was initially believed to have been murdered but then determined to have been a probable suicide was reported earlier (at least a couple of weeks ago). The only “new” news is a possible reason behind it. Let’s hope that this is the end of it.

Of course, if there’s an angle yet investigated or suggested, Michael Moore will take it up.

Geez, stick to topics of substance.

Gotta love it.
At least President Obama uses Air Force One for business, rather than using it to rack up a record number of vacation days, like our former chimp-in-chief. True, President Obama did use it to fly to New York for a date night with the First Lady, but you can balance that out against Bush’s grandstanding flight from Texas to D.C. to sign that Terry Schiavo travesty. He could have signed that nonsense in Texas, but why do that when you can pander to the right-wing base, at taxpayer expense?
That leaves only a hundred or so vacation flights to go, to even the score.

Sasha, Bush threw more parties and was out of the White House on vacation more than any other President in our lifetime. Look it up. President Obama is logging hours visiting other countries trying to repair the damage Bush did to our standing in the world. That is part of his job. It is Congress’s job to make laws–not a whole lot the President can do about that. So what would YOU have the man do? Want him to clear brush on his Texas Ranch?

Linda, the terrorists are not in Afghanistan. They are all over the world. You yourself say they’re in Pakistan. So you please tell us how our soldiers dying in Afghanistan are going to prevent terrorists in Pakistan from getting nuclear weapons? You do realize there is a massive potential for terrorists to get their hands on much deadlier weapons from broken pieces of the Soviet Union. Do you want to invade those countries also? Bottom line, we need to get out of Iraq, out of Afghanistan, and we need to let the police forces of the world do their jobs. You cannot fight a “war” against terrorists.

The alleged murder of the fed in Ky reminded me of the alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq prior to the neocons war of aggression. The pro-israel beltway crowd hyped this war of aggression and demonized anyone who disagreed with them, see Valarie Plame and her husband. Meanwhile, the useless Urinal was running pro war with Iraq pieces, JimmyTheJerkWoodenhead was hyping the war and wrapping it in rags of patriotism, and the National News Media went along for the ride. AmericKa deserves the utter poverty that will come with the end of the dollar as a reserve currency, and I for one intend to do everything in my power to bring that day closer. Death to the Dollar. Kyle, the reason people were blaming right wing talk radio etc for the death of the Kentucky census worker is because this now apparent suicide was made to look like a murder by somebody who was anti-federal government. Its not like a random death was picked out of the news and blown up into some fantasy conspiracy. The man actually did have “fed” written on his chest, his hands were bound with duct tape, he was hung from a tree and strangled to death etc. There were also recent prior events in the news (the church in Tennessee, the Pittsburgh shootings, etc) of right wing lunatics shooting people up who obviously were inspired by the “Obamas gonna take your guns” rhetoric emanating from the right wing talk shows. It took authorities this long to determine the poll workers “murder” was apparently staged, so it hardly seems like an egregious offense to have assumed this event was similar to the ones preceding it.

By your posting of this, you seem to be intimating that because this one event wasn’t in fact caused by a rightwing crazy, all other examples of right wing extremist violence in America should be discounted somewhat.

As an aside, you defended the SNL skit about Obama’s press conference in China as being reflective of popular thought, and therefore valid even though inaccurate. One could argue that the easy believability of this poor guy’s hoax is also a reflection of the public perception. Its like the people who fake assaults on themselves, or fake abductions etc, who blame it on “a black guy” because that is what they think will be most believable.

Most of the sources admitted that the cause of death was still under investigation, which is a lot more than you get from wingnuts many times. Heck, Hannity was blathering about angels helping land the empty balloon which was supposed to have that kid on board. And this was long after some callers pointed out signs of a hoax.

And pray tell, Kyle, why supply a link to the daily kos instead of the original story?

It’s hardly unhinged to point out conservative commentators speculate instead of reporting facts, it happens all the time. Talking about Obama death squads and and speculating on his place of birth is quite standard. I will say this…at least your column is labeled opinion, and you do seem to hedge and check your facts. That is indeed rare nowadays.

The Obama White House a Year From Today

By: Doug Wead

Here is the news. Nov. 23, 2010. One year into the future. What a difference a year makes.

— President Obama got tough today, issuing a stern warning to the government of Iran, which now has developed 10 nuclear warheads. “Develop anymore,” warned Obama, “and the U.S. will lead a motion before the United Nations calling for public censure.” Sources say that the White House is “actively considering” sanctions.

— New healthcare guidelines announced today suggest that no medical procedure of any kind is warranted for persons over the age of 65. In a government study, death rates did not significantly increase for those who had no government healthcare compared to those who did. The HHS secretary predicted the findings could save trillions of dollars in wasted taxpayer money.

— The unemployment rate decreased slightly this month to 23.1 percent. The Obama White House welcomed the news and said that it was further evidence of a recovering economy.

— White House records now show that the Obama administration has created 311 million new jobs since the passage of its Stimulus Program. This amounts to 5 million jobs more than the entire population of the country.

And I would say that, unlike the SNL skit, this misreporting was reflective of the “left-wing elite perception.”

And Aquagirl: Call me quaint, but I don’t think that one line about “this is still under investigation” gives a journalist license to spend the rest of her report spouting off about “right-wing extremism.” Let’s not pretend that this is a problem only of conservative commentators. Yeah, they did promise change and all we got was this lousy T-shirt making fun of the T-party’rs. I mean, what’s wrong with the Democrats? Do they all have amnesia? THIS isn’t the change that we were promised!

The change we wanted concerned foreign policy, and corporate accountability. Nothings changed. Entitlements are still busting our budget.

In fact, free government cheese is why Sarah Palin wrote her grating book, “Going Roguefort”.

Now Sarah Palin is gaining traction talking about Change. She’s used the word during her book tour. I guess the campaign slogan for the next seventeen elections will be “Change”. Whoever sez it first wins.

“Welcome to the 2252 presidential debates. The Republicans won the toss, so the Republican candidate, Jenna Bush, will open. She has 90 seconds, and then the Democratic candidate, Jesus Gonzalez, will respond. Ms Bush, you may begin………

“CHANGE!” (Jenna Bush sits down).

“Is that all? You have another 88 seconds, ma’am.”

Jenna: I’m good.

“Jesus Gonzalez, you may respond”.

Jesus: Damn! Uh……We dont need no stinking changes……
