Free Trade is generally a good thing. But more needs to be done to create a high floor for environmental and labor standards. While lefties understand the benefits of free trade — including less war as the globe becomes more economically interdependent, the downside is to give up your own nation’s “provincial” environmental gains and labor benefits lest you slide into economic oblivian. Many would rather not have to make that choice. It’s a tough thing to balance.

I don’t think you should have forced sterilization of people on welfare, but I do thing you should have drug testing on these people regardless of what color they are.

The American people have been lied to.

When China was granted MFN status back in 2000, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Business Roundtable and all the various corporate lobbyist stooges claimed it would create millions of good-paying jobs here in the U.S. The result has been the complete opposite: the U.S. manufacturing sector has been hollowed-out; entire manufacturing states like Michigan, Ohio, S.C. etc. have been decimated by job losses. Meanwhile, the trade deficit with China has grown to over $260 billion, and China still has not dropped its tariff barriers of entry to our goods.

If reduced steel tariffs were used to make the blades of some guillotines, which would then be wheeled over to Wall St. (just for starters), then yes, I will agree to some more cheap imports.
