The writer gets all the readers riled up, as most are on this issue. Everybody doesn't want their "tax dollars" going to pay for a stadium, or a ballpark, or a arena. They want the team owner (Of whatever team is in question at the moment to do it himself). The funny thing neglected here is that Arthur Blank has gone on to say he wants to build a new Falcons stadium with his own money with a private contractor to do the building of the stadium. He has not asked for public money to build the stadium for which he probably realizes ,without question, that he would never get it anyway. It is within the right of the writer here to critize Blank for a real perceived wrong but he should be consistant and report the truth when it comes to light.

Well considering the new stadium wouldn't even be built for another...almost ten years...The Dome will be almost 30 years old by then. Um new stadium. And for those saying that we need to keep the dome bc older stadiums are "shrines" and great landmarks...I don't think the GA Dome is exactly a beautiful site...it's an eye sore. It will never be a shrine or a landmark to see.

The Dome does generate a lot of dollars but none of it goes back to the State, How about when the Bonds are paid off and the Dome is paid for in full, sell it to Aurthur Blank and let him build whatever kind of stadium he wants. With his own money!!!!!

Really great research for your article. You really think the Ga.
Dome had a negative economic imact in the city? Correct?

Let me see, the Ga. Dome has hosted '96 olympics,Super Bowls,
Final Fours,SEC Football Championships,The Peach Bowl (By far
the most successful non-BCS bowl,SEC Basketball championships,
and ACC Basketball Championships. As well as the Falcons and
countless other events.

Why don't ask the Atlanta Sports Council or the ACVB if the Dome
has a negative financial impact on the city?

I'd say the Ga. Dome was one of the best investments the State
of Ga. ever made.

Mr. Wingfield,
Thank you for your thoughtful comments "Stadium idea looks like a loser" October 18, 2009. You are absolutely right. The residents of Doraville, several groups of planners and our own duly elected officials on the Doraville City Council are aware of the points you've made in your article and therefore have been consistantly planning for years to redevelop the GM site as a mixed use development with some residential development, some employment centers, some parks and green space and maybe a small civic center after the site is cleaned up. We view this area as a tremendous potential resource for the whole metro area. As our DeKalb CEO, Mr. Ellis, has said to our Mayor nothing planned for this space will work without the support of the City and people of Doraville. I wish Mr. Blank and his colleagues would accept those facts and stop using us as a bargaining tool in their negotiations about their stadium contract.

The City of Atlanta does not own the Georgia Dome, the state goes. Therefore, the State is responsible for paying the bonds off, not Atlanta. Silly little things called facts.

My first visit to the GA Dome was a week ago, and I was impressed it is huge, good seats, its simple, but it gets the job done. Blank's being a punk and wants his own stadium b/c he wants to be like his buddy in Dallas.

He should just seek to buy the GA dome, and do a little sprucing up of his own and enhance it.

Shoot if people went out and bought a new house everytime they wanted to improve their house he would be broke.
