I beleive we do have the public option here in Mass. It is called commonwealth care. I do not know the details, but you have to apply to the state to get it.

It is the cost of this insurance thatw as the miscalculation the state made. This insurance is costing the state millions more then they planned; more people then they ever planned took it.

ohmy: I'd like to know which poll found that 75 percent of those with employer-provided insurance think it "needs to be overhauled."

thanks for the pedantry, but 65% of americans are obese and the savings rate has increased to %5 from negative territory in the last 18 months. i hardly call this responsible--as for social and educational responsibility, well..we must be living in a two different dimensions. having healthcare does not make one responsible. 84% of americans are insured because most of their employers provide it for them. of those 84%, 75% say that it needs to be overhauled.

the dow is at 10000 because some billions of our tax dollars have been injected into the markets thus propping up the system. while i believe that the government should provide universal health care, i do not believe the government should bail-out business--and yes, ironically if you will, my portfolio is the beneficiary of the current market recovery.

ohmy, your comment would be funny if it weren't the illogic of so many liberal Democrats. Firstly, I don't ever do a student's homework. Secondly, go look at the Dept. of Health and Human Services statistics on who is insured, who is not, who is obese, who smokes and you'll find that the overwhelming majority of Americans are responsible for their own health and healthcare.

The United States health care system relies heavily on private and not-for-profit health insurance, which is the primary source of coverage for most Americans. According to the United States Census Bureau, approximately 84% of Americans have health insurance; some 60% obtain it through an employer, while about 9% purchase it directly. Various government agencies provide coverage to about 27% of Americans.

In 2006, it was estimated that there were 47 million people in the United States (16% of the population) who were without health insurance for at least part of that year. About 37% of the uninsured live in households with an income over $50,000.

-Dept. of Health & Human Services

OK, I did your homework for you. Eighty-four percent insured sounds like the overwhelming majority are responsible, one way or another. Again, I'm sympathetic to those who are out-of-work.

Well my friend just came back from the unemployment office and it was full. Yep they sat around and talked about why or why not have a government option while they filled out their unemployment papers. They will need it to pay their share of the healthcare plan since they dont have a job. I guess healthcare is more importand than working. The dow is at 10,000 and who reaped in those awards. Work or healthcare, work or healthcare, work or healthcare, and that is the direction the liberals have lead us into.

if there is any statistical data the supports the premise that the overwhelming majority of americans have taken these responsibilities seriously, I would like to see it. most available data is exactly the opposite. furthermore, with regards to health care, it was the idea of one of the most influential anti-socialists on record (friedrich hayek, an economist I referred to earlier) that opined as to the viability of federally supported universal health care. we have taken what should and should not be the responsibilities of the federal government and turned them inside-out because of partisan politics.
