The ACORN affair — UPDATED late Wed. afternoon
I’ve been meaning for a while to link to stories about ACORN — the group of community organizers whose employees in multiple cities have been caught on video advising two “guerrilla documentarians” on setting up a child-prostitution ring with young immigrants, among other despicable things. So here are a few worth reading:
First, BigGovernment.com has been breaking the bulk of the news on this story…start there if you’re behind on the story and trying to catch up.
This editorial from National Review Online pretty well sums up the stakes involved.
The indefatigable John Fund reminds everyone of what ACORN’s been up to besides helping would-be pimps and prostitutes.
Feel free to post other links in the comments…and please remember not to simply cut and paste large tracts of text.
Update: ACORN finds the revelations bad enough to have stopped accepting new clients. Now if we can just find out what has been going on with existing clients…any chance the internal review will tell us?

I want to know why the AJC doesn’t cover the ACORN story. ACORN has recieved 53 million from taxpayers since the 90’s and stand to get 8.5 BILLION from the stimulus. How can this corrupt reform group get any of our money? Where has the journalistic integrity gone? Why doesn’t the AJC want to cover ACORN or Van “I didn’t say what you saw me say” Jones or the 32 other Czars or the massive corruption in Washington? What has happened to the media in this country? If you are going to choose a side, pick the people’s side and report the truth. I think, until you can regain the respect and trust of the people, you will continue your rapid descent in subscribers and readers.

It is truly sad when a couple of young kids have to do the investigative journalism in this country. Where is all the well funded media that could actually be doing the job of letting people know what is going on? And now, there is the “kill the messenger” mentality, wherein people are blaming the kids for filming the ACORN employees advising on how to defraud the government. Is it true to retain 501(c) non-profit status and receive gov’t funding, you have to remain politically neutral ? I am asking as as real question, not being snarky. Because ACORN is a funding arm of the democratic party, plain and simple. That is why Eric Holder will never investigate and the MSM will try to sweep this whole thing under the rug. It is no coincidence that the “if you disagree w/Obama, it is because you are racist” stuff cranks up at the exact same time. And the senate voted 83-7 to stop federal funding of ACORN, which is all fine and good except that means there are 7 Senators who think that funding the trafficking of children for prostitution with U.S. tax dollars is really not that big of a deal ?!?! It is sad that the AJC has devoted exactly 1 article to the ACORN scandal. That 1 article was written by the AP no less. What a shame. The AJC wonders why their readership is down and no one wants to buy their paper. This is a gleaming example of why I don’t. It is news. The AJC flat out sucks as a newpaper. I will never pay for anything that the AJC produces. Their chickens are coming home to roost.

I for one am tired of the back and forth between Salzman and Axelfraud. Please moderators ban them both. They only bring down the discourse on the blog. Back and forth and copying what they both say. We don’t care about their petty differences and don’t want to read them. It is old and tiresome. Their personal attacks are old too. Both do it. This is bad, I don’t care which side of the isle you sit on, Acorn is an embarrasment right now. To be fair though, it is now being reported that these amateur documenters actually went into several dozen Acorn offices, and were thrown out of many. One in Baltimore even called the police. None of that is being reported on biggovernment.com or Fox news. That being said though, the fact that 3 offices actually tried to offer advice to a pimp brings the whole organization down, its time to do some cleaning up.

If the reports regarding ACORN are found to be true, then ban funding to them, period. I would also add that both parties participate in quid pro quo activities. Bush gave money to conservative christian groups to ‘rally’ the base in the 2004 elections. Maybe if this money stopped being doled out to these political factions, there may be enough money to pay for healthcare.

Can only imagine the crys and screams from the Democratic left if the Acorn program had helped get the vote out for a Republican candidate and stood to gain billions of dollars from Republican stimulous money and it’s employees were revealed in this way!
