At least we won’t have any Grantham-on-the-hot-seat talk next season!

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

You’ve probably seen that UGA has confirmed reports that Todd Grantham is leaving to take the defensive coordinator’s job under Bobby Petrino at Louisville. The words “getting while the getting’s good” immediately come to mind.

Lots of speculation on possible replacements, with former Texas DC Manny Diaz mentioned by a lot of folks. I just hope the search doesn’t drag out like it did when Grantham was hired. With signing day for recruits less than a month away, having someone already on board would be a big plus.

And at least other schools won’t be able to continue telling recruits, “Well, you know Grantham’s likely to be gone next year anyway.”

So, feel free to celebrate, vent, speculate, whatever …

Smart& Narduzzi not making lateral moves, Muschamp still not fired at Fl so that leaves Gene Chizik as the best possible choice. Not a good HC but a GREAT DC at AU & TX.

His daughter’s fighting for her life with cancer. Richt’s focus on the big Georgia family has endeared him to UGA and Athens in general. He found out who his friends were and who really cares about the important things.

For me to have to spell it out for y’all is mind-numbing…

UGA will not promote Olivadotti for that! Ken is not proven as DC….he has never been one! The only way he gets the job is if every candidate turns UGA down…and if that happens Richt will be on thin ice. Richt has created this monster by keeping willie around for to long.

The big happy, caring family is touching and a great story, admirable in our minds and warms our hearts. It speaks volumes about Richt’s character. But his character isn’t in question, it’s his ability to assemble and lead a top notch staff. That’s been his weakness.

Kirk doesn’t have to employed to be taken care of by UGA, Gutrake. Coach Richt would pay out of his own pocket if it came down to it.

You know, I post on this site because I find Mr. King’s posts and many of the remarks worthwhile, but the Gutrake/Bulldawg35 give and take is about as juvenile and off-putting as it comes. I think we Dawg fans know what this hirer and for Richt. I don’t agree with Gutrake’s assumption in one regard, Richt cannot afford to “miss” this time. The interesting dynamic is that this is McGarity’s first go round, he wasn’t here for the Willy debacle. He proclaims he is not involved in coaching decisions. I call BS on that. GA atheletics are his responsibility and as he puts it, “we are in choppy waters”.

Allot of names have been passed around. Smart, Orgeron, Olivardti, Wilson, Narduzzi, etc. I may be naive, but most managers already have a “bench” of people or a short list of replacements if things get sideways. I heard somewhere that UGA has 142M in the coffers. Basically, we can get the best money can buy. I’d love to see Richt’s leadership here. If love to read the Bill King interview where Richt accepts responsibility for the state of the program, vows to turn it around and get back on track, and voluntarily gives up some of his 3MM a year salary to procure the best DC we can get. That’s the type of commitment I want to see. It will never happen, of course I knows that. But something like that would go a long way to restoring “focus” in this program. Richt owns this. This is his chance to prove he can elevate the program and make us a true contender again.

We’re getting slaughtered in recruitng right now. The clock is ticking and time is running out.

It seems pretty obvious to me that Richt will just promote someone already on the staff. It’s the “safe” pick and, most importantly, he won’t have to do too much work. When predicting a Mark Richt move that’s the #1 thing you always have to keep in mind. If it will require him to get up off his azz and work he probably won’t do it.

We’ll get a bunch of crap about how the new DC already knows the system, the players love him, he’s a great family man, yadda, yadda, yadda. You know, the usual Mark Richt fare.

Richt is boring.

Pulpwud Smiff

Well, no matter who is hired, he has to be an improvement compared to the overgrown punk Grantham.

Or maybe not, with that idiot Richt doing the hiring.

dawgfan

I think it’ll be about the same. It doesn’t matter who our DC is really. Richt doesn’t expect the best out of anyone so we don’t get the best. There’s a reason all those guys turned us down last time. They don’t want to get dragged down into the culture of mediocrity that Richt has created. The best want to work with the best. Someone once asked Kirby Smart if Saban is demanding. His response: “He expects us to do our job. If that’s demanding then I guess he’s demanding.”

The best assistant coaches don’t respect Richt on a professional level. That’s why we’ll have to settle for some no name 2nd tier hack at DC for the 3rd time in Richt’s tenure.

Continuity is a good thing.

Hiring a DC who is better qualified to run the program than is the HC wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture.

I tried to tell all of you guys the week before the Nebraska that major changes were coming and most of you said I was full of it. I actually predicted a Nebraska loss as well because I knew how much partying the boys were doing. I also knew that CMR and staff were not preparing properly.

As usual I stand corrected and would like some apologies please.

UGA Insider

Also, Kirby Smart will not come to UGA because he thinks our S & C program is a joke and McGarity and Richt think it is ok. Coach T is part of the UGA insider family and will be there forever.

But because of that Kirby will just wait at Bama until CMR leaves in 2016. Then when Kirby gets interviewed he will ask for total control of football program like he did at Auburn. He may or may not get it.

Bulldawg35, agree about S&C. Coach T’s methods are old and outdated. I remember watching a segment on Bama’s S&C earlier in the year on gameday and he is firey, innovative, and conditions the h*ll out his guys. You can see it even in the eye test.

Richt/McGarrity have to hit a homerun with this next hire, and they seriously need to take a look at the S&C as well. Our guys simply don’t pass the eye test. Remember when Richt first got here, and brought VanHalenger with him? Our guys were setting and breaking all sorts of strength records. Then DVH went on cruise control because he was getting close to retiring. When’s the last time we’ve heard of anyone doing anything spectacular in the weight room?
Don’t know what went down with Richt and VanGorder, but it’s a shame we lost him.
