At least we won’t have any Grantham-on-the-hot-seat talk next season!

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

You’ve probably seen that UGA has confirmed reports that Todd Grantham is leaving to take the defensive coordinator’s job under Bobby Petrino at Louisville. The words “getting while the getting’s good” immediately come to mind.

Lots of speculation on possible replacements, with former Texas DC Manny Diaz mentioned by a lot of folks. I just hope the search doesn’t drag out like it did when Grantham was hired. With signing day for recruits less than a month away, having someone already on board would be a big plus.

And at least other schools won’t be able to continue telling recruits, “Well, you know Grantham’s likely to be gone next year anyway.”

So, feel free to celebrate, vent, speculate, whatever …

“Why would Narduzzi leave Michigan State”? How $300,000 per year more than he makes now and a high profile DC job in the SEC.

Grantham wasn’t forced out as some have implied. Richt fully expected him back in 2014. He left for two reasons:
#1 His contract was not extended and it runs out in 2015
#2 He was offered a 5 year contract for $1,000,000 per year guaranteed.

Narduzzi @ $850,000 per year and a 5 year contract. He will want his own staff but might retain the current LB & DL coaches if they fit in. One thing though, at Michigan State his primary “D” is 4-3 not Grantham’s 3-4. It could be argued that the current UGA roster favors a 4-3 defense. UGA played both 4-3 and 3-4 at times.

Dawgpoopie doesn’t have Grantham to kick around anymore and it’s set him / her / it in a foul mood this morning. I’ve long tagged dawgpoopie a TROLL MOLE.

Let’s see, Louisville has a Petrino, a Pitino, and a DC with a big ego.

Narduzzi would be everyone’s first choice, but it ain’t happening folks. Michigan State just won the Big 10 basically because of their defense. Narduzzi’s stock is sky high right now. I hope I am proved wrong but it’s not likely. We need someone that has ties in to HS football coaches in both Atlanta and S GA. Orgeron has coached in the SEC before and is a great game day coach. Simplfying the D for these young kids is an absolute must.

Richt isn’t conducive to “fiery” on the sideline. Grantham was fiery when he started. That last all of one year

Big Wally – I hate Petrino for what he did to the Falcons but he is a gem of a recruiter and wins games. It makes me laugh that he and Grantham are teamed up. Some of these tandems are hilarious!

Big plays cost you games irregardless of when they happen. Had that “lucky” play in the Auburn game occurred in the 1st quarter it would have had the same impact on the scoreboard as it did at the end of the game.

Sorry for the digression but I just always find it humorous how little you Kool Aiders know about football.

Carry on.

THANK YOU JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Todd Ghrantham was an absolute JOKE!!!!! one of the worst defensive coordinators I have ever seen, his players dont grow in his system, make the same bonehead mistakes, VERY MEDIOCRE. He makes Willy Martinez look like Kirby Smart!!!! Thank God he is gone, lets go back to the 4-3 Defense, lets get our players to play sound, fast, disciplined football. GO DAWGS ITS A GREAT DAY WE SHOULD ALL celebrate the leaving of Todd Ghrantham, scott Lakotos. WHAT A JOKE

dawgfan did you watch the UGA /Auburn game this year? We got the ball back with less than a minute left and Aaron Murray still almost moved us down the field and scored…if we had had another 1-2 minutes the game might have had a very different outcome…really you think a go ahead touchdown with a minute or less has the same impact on a game as one in the first quarter does ? If you were anymore dense you’d be Stone Mountain.

May seem like conspiracy theory, but seems like a big coincidence that both Grantham and Lakatos, the two coaches most under fire have left the program voluntarily. I would imagine that Richt told them they would be fired and should seek opportunities elsewhere.

Why would Louisville hire Grantham at $1M per? Seems like they could have gotten a much better coach. They can’t have been that impressed by what he has done at UGA the last two years.

Flo- Ri- Duh

No conspiracy theory – coincidence. Lakatos does have a personal reason for leaving – health. Grantham is a “climber” . Before he even signed his contract with UGA he knew he wouldn’t be there long if a higher paying opportunity came along and he openly admitted as much. Grantham, in his 4 years in Athens, never even bought a house – he rented.

WDE – dawgpoop is a TROLL – constantly claims he / she it knows more than anyone else but has to this point never proved it.

I don’t think Louisville had that many options. Petrino is an SOB and there aren’t many DC’s that would want to sign up to coach with him.

I’m split on this news. I personally liked Grantham: yeah, he may not have been statistically that much better (if any) than Martinez, but his defenses generally excelled at sacks and takeaways, excepting this year.

But still, I can’t say I’m not excited about the possibility of fresh blood.

Smart? Heck no, I think he knows that Saban’s the real mind behind their defense, and he doesn’t want to get exposed. Besides, They got thrashed by A&M, Auburn and Oklahoma this year: not sold on him doing well. He also burned his bridge when we went after him last time.

I may be crazy, but why don’t we go after Van Gorder again? I don’t know what all went on last time to cause him to leave, but couldn’t we throw a buncha money at him to get things cleaned up? Other than him and the Michigan State guy, I’m not sure what other kind of “big names” are available.

I just hope it doesn’t take as long as it did last time. Gotta keep those recruits on board!

Go Dawgs!

Van Gorder won’t be returning to UGA. Bombed with the Falcons…. then went to our bitter enemy Aubarn and bombed there.

It’s Narduzzi – I hope.

we were leading by 11 toward then end of the 3rd qtr against Bama in the SEC championship game; oh yea we lost that game by 4

we held SC last year in the 2nd half too but the 1st half cost us the game

I really wished football was only played for a half we might have won a national title years ago

I think besides the Smart, Mich St dc, Diaz calls for DC, I think we should look at others:

1. DC at Stanford
2. DC at Utah St.– y’all may laugh but this guy had the best defensive results/numbers, watching their bowl game—they played a better/bigger school and won that bowl w/defense!!!! he had those smaller guys playing in position and aggressively!!!!
3. our former def / lb coach Belin. been here before, our tackling did improve the year he was at Georgia. and did he not help special teams???

what else has been heard about dc?

If Georgia wants a Defensive Coordinator like Narduzzi or one who is as good or better , don’t forget that not only are we going up against other Colleges but about 6 or 7 Pro teams who need a good Defensive Coordinator. It will take 1.5 to 2 Million.

also, the dc at North Texas. He may have been an old salty looking dog but wasn’t that the smaller school we played and their defense gave us fits and was tackling and hitting very well!!!!

actually , it seems the more schools I review it seems many DC did much more w/less than what we had. Coaching!!!! we sure do lack it at Georgia. hate to say it, but it’s sooooo true!!!

Flat Tire doesn’t live in Delusionalville Ga. yeah and we stopped LSU this year and we stopped USC also the problem with the debbie downers like yourself is that the sky is always falling..bottom line we beat LSU that beat the team that played for the NC and came within a whisker of winning it all and old buddy we should have beat that team too. We earned our record this year don’t get me wrong but with the injuries across the offense but we aren’t as far away from a SEC title and you and others think..that is my story and I’m sticking to it….you know Flat after the LSU game this year I bet your panties we all knotted up . Smart would give it serious consideration for a matching pay and lengthy contract. He’d be crazy not to. Saban isn’t leaving anytime soon and Kiffin on the staff doesn’t bode well. It wouldn’t take any HCIW, just a competitive offer of about 1.75 per year

2009 5 losses

5 seasons out of the last 8 with 4 or more losses
6 seasons out of the last 8 with 3 or more losses

yea we sure have been a “”good”" program the last 8 years
