At least we won’t have any Grantham-on-the-hot-seat talk next season!

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

You’ve probably seen that UGA has confirmed reports that Todd Grantham is leaving to take the defensive coordinator’s job under Bobby Petrino at Louisville. The words “getting while the getting’s good” immediately come to mind.

Lots of speculation on possible replacements, with former Texas DC Manny Diaz mentioned by a lot of folks. I just hope the search doesn’t drag out like it did when Grantham was hired. With signing day for recruits less than a month away, having someone already on board would be a big plus.

And at least other schools won’t be able to continue telling recruits, “Well, you know Grantham’s likely to be gone next year anyway.”

So, feel free to celebrate, vent, speculate, whatever …

In two years he will have UGA turned around on defense. We will still have to out score people next year. I wonder if he will change the 3-4 scheme???? That worries me as well…because they will be a learning curve….I wonder how Lorenzo carter thinks about this??

Gut – What did you just call me? No need for that on here… Me Dumb A..? After that disgusting garbage you have been putting on here? Well I’m not lowering myself to your level – somewhere below the gutter line.

BS35 (akak Milk Dud)…. You got your wish. Pruitt still gave up 31 points and a bunch of yards to Aubarn but I guess he is a little better than Grantham? this is not bad I guess but I would like to see what Narduzzi could have done with these guys. Pruitt is a good recruiter and knows the Florida market – that’s a plus. Bet that the whole UGA staff (except Richt) will get a raise now as Pruitt didn’t come cheap. He still has only 2 years experience as a DC. You do understand that? And there is always the possibility that FSU just had better defensive talent than UGA.

Yeah nobody is going to slow auburn down to much……FSU did hold them to 10 points in the second half. You can’t judge Pruitt on just one game……he allowed 12 points a game…I don’t care what conference your in that’s pretty good numbers!

It might take more than one year to turn the defense around if we make the transition to a 4-3! We will just have to sit back and see.

It won’t take any time to convert back to a 4-3. Georgia played in a 4-3 or 5-2 most of the time anyway.

The Georgia Bulldogs just got better. We didn’t go sideways for certain. The next few weeks should be very interesting in recruiting. I would venture to guess that we will not lose any recruits due to this hire.

7576,

You’re right…the 3-4 is the base. UGA played 4 down at least 50% of the time. It’s just the appeal of the base that makes recruits feel that it is preparing them for the NFL…

DawginColorado

We played a 4-2 5 most of the time… more than likely we will have 1 bull rusher on one end and a OLB on the other. The LB corps will be shaken up a bit. I wonder if Tramel Terry will stay on defense now?

Jeremy Pruitt & Kirby Smart have one thing in common. They were both great recruiters but consider this fact- Saban is the closer. Can they close without Saban?

Pruitt was only at FSU one year? That means the talent was there before he arrived.
I do like the fact that his background is that he was a DB in the NFL and his specialty is DB’s – same as Saban.

Not sure that Richt will be welcome at FSU after this poaching of their DC!
Bobby Bowden is chuckling about this one somewhere.

If this hire go’s through, after the back ground check, this will change everything at Georgia. The amount of money it took to get Pruitt just about guarantees Bobo being bumped up to $750,000. Glad to see McGarity getting off some money. Indoor practice facility should be announce soon.

Jeremy Pruitt is 39 and Bobo just turned 40. Jeremy Pruitt & Will Friend were roommates at Bama.
So, I guess Will Friend is going nowhere anytime soon BS35 (aka Milk Dud).

Flat Tire won’t like this as it is going to extend Richts’ stay at UGA.

Gut – I’m considering your apology but only if you quit bickering with BS35 (aka Milk Dud) like Housewives of Beverly Hills. YES BS35 (aka Milk Dud) can be a bit hyper – make that a lot hyper- but I just let it go like water over a duck’s back. Used to think he / she / it was a TROLL (like Flat Tire) but that is not the case. Rise above the pettiness- we Dawg fans can disagree and have differing opinions without the snide comments. It comes across as low class.

Flo-Ri-Duh

Trey Matthews is a safety – period. UGA is loaded at LB – need safeties. That is why Tramel Terry was moved. I don’t know that I like this move either. He was primarily a WR and QB in high school and won’t be starting at safety any time soon ’cause he has a huge learning curve to overcome.

Very few true freshmen ever start at safety in the SEC and this should have been a learning year for Trey matthews but unfortunately he was forced to start – even with all the injuries he had. He will be much improved in 2014.

duh,

I don’t need a sermon. 3.5″ is an embarrassing example of a Dawg fan (if he truly is…).

I tried the discourse earlier, and he went juvenile immediately. I can handle myself with ol’ sport model–no need to worry. I just hate that he would act this way in public. That gives all a black-eye.

Matthews is a hitter. If he stays at safety, he will need to learn some ball-hawking techniques. Terry can excel there if given the proper training and opportunity…

It seems likely that this was all done before Grantham took the Cardinals job. I can’t imagine that a search was conducted and a new guy hired if they started this on Sunday night after getting the news from Grantham that he was moving on. Richt must have had this in place prior to the weekend.

I don’t know much about Pruitt, but this seems like a good hire to me on the surface. I understand he only has had one year as a D coordinator, but I like his high school experience, and the d backs coaching experience he had at BAMA as well. Seems like he has won about 90% of his games everywhere he has been the last 5-6 years.

This has completely changed my outlook for the future of the Dawgs. Richt and Company are serious about winning and willing to make changes to bring that about. Next thing you know, we will have changed our approach to special teams and maybe even offensive line and strength and conditioning.

You know what I call this? A DAMN GOOD START!
