At least we won’t have any Grantham-on-the-hot-seat talk next season!

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

Todd Grantham is on his way to Louisville. (AJC file)

You’ve probably seen that UGA has confirmed reports that Todd Grantham is leaving to take the defensive coordinator’s job under Bobby Petrino at Louisville. The words “getting while the getting’s good” immediately come to mind.

Lots of speculation on possible replacements, with former Texas DC Manny Diaz mentioned by a lot of folks. I just hope the search doesn’t drag out like it did when Grantham was hired. With signing day for recruits less than a month away, having someone already on board would be a big plus.

And at least other schools won’t be able to continue telling recruits, “Well, you know Grantham’s likely to be gone next year anyway.”

So, feel free to celebrate, vent, speculate, whatever …

I’m thrilled Best thing that could have happened. CMR seems to be looking at high level replacements, maybe this will be the turnaround that we’ve been waiting for. I still wish we had Murray for one more year.

Richt MO is to be a hero ( he may feel he’s on the bubble also) and he will give Coach Chris Wilson a once in a life time opportunity. Watch. And He might be Ok, But Richt’s is easy…and not to hire someone on staff who the fans would holler for to take the head job. Richt will settle and think the hire is not that important, because he was mad about being told to fire Martinez. Until Richt is gone, it really doesn’t matter who he hires. It won’t be boot shaking. 8-4 in 14. Sorry I feel that way. I live in realville.

I think Chris Wilson will be promoted. Richt will try to bring in a few good coordinators but they will want to bring in their guys. Richt want let the current staff be unemployed. Remember continuity is a good thing for Georgia.

Winners go find the best their is, employed or not. They hire them. They won’t let them say no. Richt will place an ad in the paper for all the unemployed DC’s. Again, winners go GET their man. Won’t see that out of Athens. Football just not that important anymore over there.

Just checked Coach Wilson Bio. He WAS the DC at State the 2011 season. Mixed results and ended up with us at DL coach….Please don’t let the kool aid drinkers tell you we ” Stole” him from his DC job there to Athens as line coach. Ouch !

This is the chance to clean house on defense and bring in a big name that will pick their own assistants – and potentially sway some good defensive recruits before signing. This is the chance to make a game changing event to convert the team into a contender. The offense is fine. Make the right decision in this hire, and it could change things for years to come.

This is a NO brainer – N A R D U Z Z I should be the next DC at UGA.

Some say he won’t leave Michigan State for less than a HC job but that is not what he said in his recent interview. He said ” I am happy here but I am willing to listen to a better opportunity.” UGA is a better opportunity.

Narduzzi interviewed for Louisville HC job four days ago but Petrino was rehired for the position. That shows he has a willingness to leave on short notice.

CTG will do well there. He’ll have a Head coach that knows offense and will keep the hammer down in a game…. And last time i looked, there are no LSU, Bama’s, Mizzou’s, SC, AU etc in the ACC. Grantham will be fine.

1 million a year for 5 years !!! I don’t think so, who in their right mind would pay a DC that kind of money that performed so poorly with all that NFL talent at UGA. Do you think Granthams wife likes riding on Harley’s ?

Van Gorder just signed with Notre Dame, Not available as of last week. Don’t think he left on best of terms $$$$$ after winning the Broyles award, was offered like a 10K raise from Richt.

Remember, Richt slide Willie in at the job when Van Gorder left. Wilson HAS BEEN a DC….At State for 2011. They had seen enough. Although he’s done a good job with our line. Stats mean little. Look at the deal Grantham just got and couldn’t stop anyone with 7 or 8 NFL caliber players year before last.

2 times Grantham held the program in limbo looking for other opportunities

The kool-aiders made excuses and defended his actions

3rd time he leaves the program in limbo this time leaving

Any excuses this time kool-aiders?

Divine intervention because we know Richt doesn’t have the stones to run any coach for poor performance, save scapegoat Willie Martinez. One more needs to hit the road: Will Friend.

BUT, BUT until Richt himself sees the urgency to improve in each phase of the game, things will/may only change marginally. Don’t lose sight of the fact that Richt didn’t initiate this move.

That Grantham is unloyal to Dawgs then god riddances. We need DC that committed to Dawgs like Erk was to make Junkyard D. Then we have team that smash mouths and shut down sorry offenses like that Lame Kitten clown at Bammer. Best team D comes from loading talents and attacks all the time. Then that blows up offenses like Awful Burn by putting Marshall on his tail. Dawgs need new DC that make players play hard and unloading on bad teams.

Everybody wanted his head, they got it. Let’s see who we can bring in, quite frankly, I don’t think that there are any great ones to pick at this time. I will guess they are making an all out effort at Van Gorder, even though he has inked up at Notre Dame. A couple of other names, to watch Ed Orgeron, and maybe even Tyrone Nix. I’d like to see Smart come in, but I’m not sure we can make that happen.

Orgeron has contacts, ability SEC experience, needs a job! Smart may want to come home. If he thinks he will pass the Kitten, he needs to think again. I guess we will see. Maybe we will all be screaming for the return of WIllie!

Wish Grantham the best, he did his best here. It wasn’t good enough, but he did his best. I guess when they go out and hire a new DC, the question has to be “why not the best”? Go out and get the best available and bring him here. It is ironic that the DC and SC are both gone within 3 days of the appraisal by AD. I guess you have to hope that CTG learns to ride a motorcycle. He should flourish in the ACC, and at Louisville. Now they just need to have a fishing license to get into school.

What’s comical is that there were crickets four years ago when Richt went looking for a DC. It wasn’t until Saban gave the blessing to Grantham. Who wants to go to Athens and be a part of the end of Richt’s reign? Let alone be part of such a vanilla program. Line should wrap around the block. Should be a calamity of epic proportions.
