Bowl projections for Dawgs include Tampa, Jacksonville, Atlanta and Nashville

Where will the Bulldogs go bowling this season? (Associated Press)

Where will the Bulldogs go bowling this season? (Associated Press)

With just a month remaining in the regular season, bowl projections are kicking into high gear. Most projections have 11 SEC teams in postseason play, and it’s interesting that there’s basically no consensus on where Mark Richt’s Georgia Bulldogs will wind up.

Checking a sampling of nine of the better-known sources offering projections, I found three see the Dogs returning to Jacksonville for the Gator Bowl, two have Georgia penciled in for the Chick-fil-A in Atlanta, two see them falling behind Ole Miss in the pecking order and landing at the Music City in Nashville and, surprisingly, two project Georgia to go bowling at the Outback in Tampa.

These projections don’t come with predictions of how the rest of the season will play out for the Dogs, but it’s pretty obvious by the placement of Auburn that many expect the resurgent Tigers to beat Georgia this year.

For example, Sports Illustrated’s Stewart Mandel has Auburn in the Sugar and Georgia facing Boston College in the Music City. Mark Schlabach of ESPN gives South Carolina the Sugar nod but has Auburn in the Capital One and Georgia against Minnesota in the Gator. The Sporting News also has Auburn in the Sugar and Georgia in the Chick-fil-A against Miami. CollegeFootballNews.com puts Missouri in the Sugar, with Auburn in the Capital One and Georgia playing Michigan in the Gator. Phil Steele puts Auburn in the Sugar and Georgia against Iowa in the Gator.

And while it’s less clear what SBNation expects, since they have Auburn in the Chick-fil-A (with Texas A&M in the Sugar, South Carolina in the Capital One and Missouri in the Outback), they do have Georgia facing Pitt in the Music City.

But some projections clearly show an expectation that Georgia will beat Auburn. BCS expert Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com puts South Carolina in the Sugar, Texas A&M in the Capital One and Georgia in the Outback against Michigan, with Auburn in the Music City Bowl. And USA Today has Georgia in the Chick-fil-A against Miami and Auburn in the Gator.

Then there’s Brad Edwards of ESPN, who seems to think Auburn will beat Georgia, since he has the Tigers slotted in the Sugar. However, he still has the Dawgs in a Florida New Year’s Day bowl: the Outback, against Michigan.

Assuming the football gods don’t pull the rug out from under Mizzou so that Georgia somehow makes it to the SEC Championship, I’d frankly be surprised to see the Dogs in the Outback unless they win out. However, if they do, a Georgia team with victories over three Top 10 opponents certainly would be attractive.

On the other hand, I don’t see the Dogs falling as far as the Music City unless they lose to both Auburn and Georgia Tech. I think the Gator is the most likely destination, with Atlanta’s Chick-fil-A a possibility.

In the meantime, the UGA athletic office started accepting online requests for bowl game tickets (and SEC Championship tickets, just in case) from Bulldog Club members Wednesday.

A paper ticket application also will be mailed to the Hartman Fund donors and requests are also being accepted by phone. The priority order request deadlines are Nov. 22 for the SEC Championship and Dec. 6 for bowl games. (The applications list all games in which it is possible Georgia will play; no credit card charges will be run until Georgia has qualified for the conference championship and/or it is determined which bowl they’re in. Priorities are based on Hartman Fund scores. Any orders received after the deadlines will be filled on a first come, first served basis.)

For more information and to request a paper application, contact the ticket office by calling 1-877-542-1231 or email gatickets@sports.uga.edu.

So, how would you feel about a second trip to Jacksonville this season? Or another almost-home game in Atlanta? Would a trip to Tampa help make up for the disappointments of this injury-plagued season? Feel free to share your views.

We can “get fixed” if McGarity will do his job. A loss to Kentucky and/or Tech will get enough of the base fired up where the seat will get hot again. Richt will have to go aginst his instincts and personal feelings and make a decision in the best interest of the team – Fire and replace Grantham

I personally think UGA has done a pretty good job overall this season. We got decimated by the NFL last year and hurt by injuries this year. We have started 7 newbies on Defense which is usually a recipe for disaster in the SEC. I predict we will win the rest of our games and upset Auburn next week.

book it!

If there is a positive this year I think it will be that McGarity will go get a ST coach this offseason.

bubs says Auburn is a top 25 defense, 400 yards per game against the weakest part of their schedule is top 25? scoring defense is overrated. Our special teams has added 10 points per game to our scoring defense. That has nothing to do with the opposing team’s quarterback. We have a real chance against Auburn if we can be ready for the high speed Gus M offense. I have to hand it to him, he is a good coach. If we do lose to Auburn and GA Tech maybe we can steal him away from those Tigers on the plains

Also, UGA insider, consider this. Decimated we may be but if Vegas betting lines held out we would be 8-0 instead of 5-3. Bookies consider injuries, draft losses etc. Not good for CMR

All thoughts should be toward preparing the team for next year. This year is an underachieving miserable failure. Cut your losses and get some experience for next year. History will talk about this train wreck for years to come.

Is anybody a programmer here? Can we get somebody to write a game so these trolls can play “Rip Richt” and get off our blogs? Talking about obsession! Just give ‘em a game so they can live out their fantasies, for god’s sake. Just damn… you people are just deranged.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one of you nut jobs called in a hit on the man. Hatred is a fool’s emotion. It does nothing but hurt YOU. We all have preferences and things that we don’t LIKE but when you are as deep in the “hate” pit as these goons are… it’s a travesty.

Just damn…

No 35, if we had spiked the ball all you would have done is complain about how we had them on the ropes and stupid old Richt let Saban regroup when the ball game ended with an interception or incomplete pass.. You know it, I know it. Stop with the self deception… it’s just silly.

NCDawg,

Bingo! You nailed Bulldawg35 perfectly.

There was nothing wrong with not spiking the ball. THAT was NOT the problem. The problem was, 35, that one of the best defensive players in the country made a once in a hundred times play to deflect the ball.

Say what you will, but Alabama ain’t never used :INJURIES” as an excuse in their run of Championships.

That garbage is stuff piled high by ignorant uninformed writers who have never played a day of sports in their journalistic life like Seth Emason (boy he writes the dumbest stuff ever in his monologues).

Excuses are for losers.

Got a bad feeling about Auburn, might be a blowout. Kid Nick Marshall is a star, man, should have gone with him, he’s won 89% of his starts.

Got a bad felling about Tech. Might be a loss. Close game, UGA offense commits 3 turnovers, struggles on third down, held to 21 points by a top 25 scoring defense. UGA defense gives up their 32 points per game average to a top 40 scoring offense in Tech. Say what you will, Tech can score, and this year their defense is really holding teams down to some low point totals.

So Richt said today that the thought the defense had “turned a corner”. I hope for his sake that he doesn’t really believe that. Yes they are going to look real good getting run over in the Music City Bowl. What a terrible coaching job this year. At least at the Music City Bowl they can remember when they went to Nashville and Vanderbilt got their only SEC win.

Can you imagine Saban telling the media “Yes I think our defense has turned a corner and we are going to the Music City Bowl.” If Georgia goes to Nashville and gets their arse kicked twice in one year in that city, it will go down as the worst team ever.

Lose to Barn and GT,Nashville here we come. Win both games and Tampa is where we will be on New Years Day. However, if we win out and Mizzou loses two more,we could be in the Sugar. Odds are against us but watching football for the last 50 years, it could happen.

I’m so glad the defense has finally “turned a corner” 8 games in to the season. Another thing that always works against Mark Richt is that football seasons are only 12 games long and he doesn’t have enough time to get our team playing to its potential.

The cards just never fall his way..

I don’t know if Oregon is overrated, they are just a finest football team. Standford on the other hand is a smash mouth physical football team that runs the football. We’ve seen this play out before. Richt needs to be watching this game and decide which philosophy works better. High octane offense that has to outscore teams to win or a team committed to line play, running the football, and a stout defense.

David Shaw would be a huge pull for UGA to replace Richt. Look at what Baylor
Is doing to Oklahoma. Briles is a good choice too.
