What will it take for 2013 Dawgs to still be considered successful?

Aaron Murray said Georgia finishing with a 9-3 record would be "a great year." Do you agree? (Associated Press)

Last week, after the Missouri game, when the Dogs still had an outside chance at winning the SEC East if they won out and the Tigers lost two, a fellow Bulldog fan and I were discussing various alternative outcomes for the season.

What if Georgia won out, I asked, but didn’t win the SEC East?

The fan said that any season that included wins over South Carolina and LSU (both in the Top 10 at the time) as well as Florida and Tech would have to be considered a really good season.

We revisited that discussion Saturday night after the Vandy game. He said that when he had made the earlier statement, he wasn’t even considering the possibility of the Dawgs losing to the Commodores. His new view? Even with wins over South Carolina, LSU, Florida and Tech, any season that includes a loss to Vanderbilt would have to be considered a disappointment.

OK, I’ll grant that losing to Vandy in the James Franklin era doesn’t carry nearly the shame that it once did, but I can see his point. A great season for the Bulldogs shouldn’t include a loss to any of the teams that normally inhabit the lower half of the SEC East.

Still, you can make a pretty good case that, in a season that’s seen Georgia devastated by a ridiculous string of serious injuries, a 9-3 regular season record and a chance to notch a 10th win in a bowl should be considered a pretty good season.

Shouldn’t it?

Now, let me be clear here: I’m not predicting the Dogs are going to win out; this is my blue sky scenario. I recognize that even an injury-plagued Florida team with the conference’s worst offense is going to be a major challenge. Those games in Jacksonville always are. And, barring vast improvement in the play of the defense and special teams, Auburn right now is looking to be a likely loss.

Georgia no doubt also will play down to Kentucky’s level and make that one tight. And who knows how Todd Grantham’s young charges will react to Tech’s gimmick offense.

But it’s about time the 2013 Dogs got a few breaks going their way, and, if that happens, a 9-3 record wouldn’t be too shabby. As Aaron Murray said this week, “I think we can be proud if we go out there and finish the season strong, go 9-3. Who knows what might happen with Missouri, they still have five very tough conference games to play, who knows what happens. But if not, we’re 9-3 playing in a great bowl game, and 10-3, I think that’d be a great year.”

If the SEC East remains out of reach, what would it take for you to consider the 2013 season a successful one?

Do you agree with him? Can any season when Georgia doesn’t win the SEC East be considered a great year? Or is this season already marked as a disappointment, despite the Dogs having two impressive wins over Top 10 teams? And, if not a great year, what would it take for you to consider the 2013 season a successful one?

This season has seen Georgia lose their relavence in the BCS march to the championship. Wait ’till next year. We should have a strong group next year for sure. Good leadership from our seniors. All those little things that must be done to give yourself a chance to win. This year, we stink. Thank you so much, Mr. McGarity.

Firing Richt and his entire staff at the end of the season and replacing Richt with a coach who has the DESIRE and the ability to return UGA to where it ought to be in big time college football.

Injuries. Injuries. Injuries. Maybe if we say the word “injuries” enough Mark Richt will be a good coach again.

I still have yet to hear a Kool Aider explain to me what the injuries had to so with the bad long snap or Damian Swann fumbling that punt. I have also never heard a Kool Aider extend any sympathy to Vandy for their lost starting QB. He got injures in case you missed it Kool Aiders. They want everyone to feel sorry for us but not Vandy. Oh wait never mind. Vandy doesn’t need any sympathy because they grew a pair and won the freaking game.

Funny how that works.

Okay this year is a wash, do what you can to make it to a bowl game and go back to the drawing board. Now, next year’s schedule does not include any of the big boys in the West. No ‘Bama, No LSU, No T A & M. Hutson came out about as good as he could with next years schedule. NOW here are some things that need serious addressing:

Defense – WTH? In Grantham’s 2nd year defense was in the top 10 nationally, it has nosedived since. Why? Either other teams are on to him OR he’s not being hand’s on enough. Communication is a bust. We look like a Chinese Firedrill way too much.

Special Teams – What Special Teams? Looks like a bunch of eclectic individuals. No one is on the same sheet of music. CMR MUST break down and hire a ST coordinator. It’s that simple. Hines Ward anyone?

Offense – Just get the injured back and tell Bobo to take a psychology class on controlled aggression. This conservative crap is for the birds. Who dares wins!

Should Grantham be fired? Who are we gonna hire? Kirby Smart? Can’t see him leaving Saban. Dick Bumpas? Maybe. Bud Foster? Struck out last time. BVG? Can we lure him away from the Pros? Who?

Hines Ward has said he wanted to be part of the coaching staff at UGA and I would like to see that happen

Im pretty certain the kool-aiders dont think that would would be a good idea though

Im sure they would hate for our team to have a coach on the sideline that wanted to lite a fire in our players during the ballgame

Players are going to make mistakes…and the finger points at them for the blame…but after 13 years the players are still making the same mistakes….the finger of blame starts to point at the head coach….that’s right…..no more firing just assist. Coaches….it’s time to fire the head man….the players are no longer responding to Richt.

1/2 of them are trolls that will do or say anything to get the other 1/2, the chronic complainers to keep spewing their vitriol week after week after week. These poor delusional pseudo fans actually think that there is a LARGE segment of the fanbase that is clamouring to have Coach Richt fired. They actually believe that the folks agreeing with them are Bulldog fans. But because they are hate blinded, they can’t see that these interlopers come here only to rebel rouse and egg them on.

On a side note… while you are screaming for Richt to be fired our competition is using it to scare our recruits fools. Did you see that there is a report that Sony Michel is supposedly wavering in his commit? I wonder why? I’ll tell you why. Because you give the opposition a place to point the kid to to prove their point. Nice job guys… way to be loyal fans. Of course, you didn’t even think about that did you? If you truly support the “kids” you’d want a coach that prepares them well for games and gets the most out of their many abilities. Nobody who is being honest with themselves can say we have that.

Mark Richt and the program are not synonymous. You Kool Aiders need to wrap your heads around this sooner rather than later.

Don’t know if anyone noticed or not , but that damn George Bush was hiding on the sidelines. All the failures that UGA is suffering is all his fault. He’s the one that serrupticiously dug the holes in the field at Neyland Stadium for our guys to fall into. He’s the one that has done everything he could to make our football program fail. He’s the one that’s really in Todd Grantham’s ear telling him what not to do. He’s the one that has kept Mark Richt from hiring a special teams coach. So BullDawg Nation , this should be our true mantra. Leave CMR & CTG alone and place the blame where it truly lies….. with that Damn George Bush!

The reason recruits are wavering on Uga is simple. They all want to be championship players and playing for Richt can get you to the NFL but not any championship. That’s the reason we get alot of the recruits but seem to get into trouble because they are only worrying about themselves instead of the team. Richt has taken this team as far as he can and we all should be thankful. But sometimes it takes a another person to get to the next step. How do we know that all these kool aid drinkers aren’t really fans of other teams that would just love for us to keep Richt. Maybe they want us to keep him so we will just always win most games on talent but never reach the great status!!! Richt just ain’t getting it done just look at the top teams we play each year and he isn’t even 500 against. Talent alone want win championships it takes determination which is Richts major kryptonite!!!

At the beginning of the season – UGA was better than Gators. Gators look good though.
After Miami Game (USC game), UGA was much better, Gators going downhill
After LSU Game (For UGA), UGA was on their way to NC, Gators were on their way to bottom of the barrel
I feel real bad for UGA – Both the team and coaches found ways to win big when healthy.
That said, UF has their fair share of injuries. Defense is no good. LSU exposed the defense.

UGA is still better than UF now. UGA-UF game will be a good one, close and a missed fg/PAT or last minute interception will make the difference (unless ofcourse gurley starts running like moreno in 2007, it will be a long long longgggggg day for UF)

The Kirby Smart rumor is just that…Rumor…..He comes back to UGA ONE way. 6 year 5 mil per and the same control of the program Saban has at Bama. Saban has taught him some football….and the politics and the business side of college football….If’s and and’s and pot’s and pan’s won’t get it. He saw that with Muschamp at Texas.

JB

AND………….Bama might be forced to put the coach in waiting tag on him at Bama per Saban’s insistence. Saban may tell the AD I’ll give you 2….maybe 3 more years…. Sign Kirby up for 2.5 mil per year and 5 mil to take over when I leave. That keeps the recruiting train going. I’m thinking he stays at Bama IF THAT happens.

Sorry, but when you start the season at #5 and end up with 3L’s by mid-October, you can’t make it a “successful” season…period!

I am a Dawg alum, fan and former athlete; so I am true Red & Black. Also, personally, I consider myself to be an always “glass-half-full” type of a guy.

CMR seems to be a fine man and I have always admired his penchant for following the rules and being a strict disciplinarian. He has kicked of some very talented players during his time in Athens…Crowell, Mettenberger, Marshall, etc. BUT, this annual letdown and not being able to achieve the ultimate goal and dream has finally tired here. While I too once bought in to the: blackouts/redouts, end zone celebrations, dancing on the sidelines, pool parties, and-so-on…NO MORE!
