Paul Johnson: Who’s your Daddy?

Truth in jest! (@BassinDawg)

Truth in jest! (@BassinDawg)

A photo of Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson making the rounds on Twitter and Facebook is good for a laugh  if you’re of the Red and Black persuasion.

A UGA fan who on Twitter goes by the name @BassinDawg tweeted me he PhotoShopped the picture  this morning. It’s, of course, a play on the “Coach Richt Is My Dawg” T-shirt given out to recruits.

And, as my brother Tim put it in true Homer Simpson style, “It’s funny because it’s true!”

Enjoy …

All yall need to be nice to CPJ. He beat us once and he can do it again. Especially given we’re stuck with Richt. I know, this reminds me exactly of playing at Parkview High in 1989, we were hot and then Brookwood punks got us. Yall need to be VEEERYYY CAREFFULL of tech this year. Mark my words. Marc Wabich UGA ‘95 OVER & OUT.

Don’t compare high football to college please….big difference! Honestly you just wanted everyone to know you played high school football…Isn’t that right Marc? ( I played high school football…I must know what I’m talking about) is that what your getting at Marc? PJ beat UGA and CMR with better players than he has now, and we had a horrible D then. His recruiting classes have…for the lack of a better word SUCKED!! honestly.. CMR owns Tech Your probably a TECHIE. Go Dawgs

That is funny… crass but funny. Wonder if he’ll retaliate by telling Tech alum to punch Dawg fans in the face? The garbage can scavengers that float around our blogs will cry foul and whine and carry on and accuse Coach Richt of running a dirty program and being a big phony.
But in the end it’s true. 11 out of 12.
When CPJ starts recruiting top level defensive talent then I’ll consider Tech to be dangerous. That offense is a pain but as long as they can’t stop anyone it will be hard to take them seriously.
BTW they beat the worst USC team in decades. Yawn.

Oh really, Paul Johnson is trying to motivate his players to beat us this upcoming season, great, that’s another tuff team on UGA’s schedule this upcoming season. With tech having 15+ starters returning this upcoming season. Watch out, it’s a RIVALRY game plus it’s on the road. UGA’s 2013 schedule might be the toughest in the history of the Richt era!

This is the biggest joke blog I have ever read. Beating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in football is NOTHING to brag about, and like the poster above said, it is time for little coach Richt to win a championship or move on. I am aware that MANY UGA alum and boosters are behind this clown McGarity, but there are just as many or more that are behind win a championship or move on. The ones that are behind the UGA establishment are the ones you see walking around trying to get an autogragh from Richt, and listening to his garbage, the ones behind the win a championship are the ones that rarely go to Athens for games anymore, rather giving away their tickets to their children and friends , and are ever so close to pulling their donations. There are just as many who are of the belief that there are many, many coaches out there that would have gotten a LOT MORE out of the entitled defensive players who have now moved on to the NFL. The championship void has gone on entirely too long in Athens. Time for Richt to use this offense to win a championship. Bobo should be told to score a touchdown every time he has the ball if possible. Too many times in last two years has he taken foot off of the gas, only to wind up losing the game. Erk used to say “If they can’t score, they can’t win”. The problem with UGA’s football team these days, is they can score, so UGA must score more. All of this being afraid of hurting someone’s feelings if they score a lot of points is bull s#4&.

NCDawg

June 20th, 2013

Columbus Dawg – while I do not necessarily agree with all your post I do definitely agree with the rant about taking your foot off the gas. I am going to break up this post in a few smaller ones so it makes it through the filters.
Many Coaches still adhere to the code of honor about “running up the score”. They believe it is unsportsmanlike to score points after a certain ( and quite variable) point. The idea is that you are dishonoring your opponent by scoring too many points. I, however, believe that the eact opposite is true. You DISHONOR your opponent MORE by not giving them your absolute best for the entire game.

NCDawg

June 20th, 2013
8:46 am

The offense’s job is to score points. Any variation of that is strictly personal taste. Your offense is supposed to attempt with maximum effort to score points EVERY time they have the football. So aren’t you dishonoring your players by asking them to NOT do their job? Aren’t you dishonoring your opponent by deciding arbitrarily that you have beaten them and you no longer need to give them your best?

NCDawg

June 20th, 2013
8:50 am

I think that if you tell your opponents up front that your offense will play full bore for the ENTIRE game regardless of score that you are honoring them by specifying that they are WORTHY of your absolute best from start to finish. The final score does not matter. Now if you are doing this to deliberately embarrass an opponent that is definitely not cool. But if you give fair warning then there should be no question of your intent.

NCDawg

Coach Richt is old school on this subject. Of that there is no doubt. However I think he needs to ask himself a very simple question: Does not God demand your absolute best in ALL that you do? Is asking your players to NOT do their job and give their absolute best in all they do not also dishonoring God?
I would say YES, most definitely. And I think Coach Richt would see it as well.

NC, I know that I am letting my aggrevation show a little too much about McGarity and Richt, ect., but the part about trying your best to score points and win important games, I will not apologize. I have watched and watched on DVR, both the 2011 LSU, and 2012 Alabama SEC games, and in both cases Bobo gave up on what was working for the Dawgs, and had both teams on their heels. Murray was absolutely killing Bama throwing the football, and the next thing you know we are running up the non existant middle once again, going no where but three and out. The embarrassing the other team crap did not apply in either game, obviously, but why close down the open playbook? Now, sure he opened it back up fully when there was nearly no time left against Bama, but then it was too late. WHATEVER your strength is you should use it to the fullest extent in trying to oust your competition, no matter what. If the Dawgs had just scored one more early touchdown against Bama they could not have recovered. I am NOT a football coach, but I know enough about the game to know that UGA’s coaching staff has bungled entirely too many important games. I see that the new NCAA rule will require better clock management than ever before, again, not one of Mark Richt’s strong suits.

I remember now… I happen to think that that they do know what they are doing. I do not fault someone for doing what they think is right. I do however find fault when their belief is based solely on tradition and not based upon carefully contemplated conviction. Spurrier’s philosophy was expressly to embarrass opponents. He particularly wants to embarrass UGA anyway he can. That I do not agree with. But I do not agree with clinging to a bogus concept of honor that really isn’t honoring your opponent. That is tradition for tradition sake and it is a problem… not just in football or athletics. Tradition for tradition’s sake is a problem throughout the world. If there is no logical reason for it it should end.
Anyway… I don’t believe in prevent defense either. All it does is prevent you from winning.

What you are talking about is the adherence to that tradition. After getting a 10 point lead in the SEC CG they started the play it safe mode. That is part of the traditional approach. It used to work but now it doesn’t. They showed they know what to do in getting to that point now they have to cast aside the traditional “protect the lead” mindset.

NCDawg

June 20th, 2013

Les Miles lost to Bama for the same reason. He has won Championships but he opted to protect the lead and use a soft defensive approach in an attempt to bleed the clock. Bama nickle and dimed them and then broke the big play to win it. Miles has proven he is a damned good coach but he fell into that trap and paid for it.

Skokie Dog

Flat Tire: McGarity mentioned that the tennis facility is in line for a major upgrade, and he may spruce up Foley Field. As for the football facilities, they’re looking into installing an onsite tanning booth, so Coach Richt can save time commuting to offsite facilities during the week, allowing him more time to study up on the cutting edge football trends. Coach Grantham has requested a longer buffet line, so that’s on the agenda, and Coach Bobo has asked for a larger film room, so Aaron Murray can have some company in there when he’s preparing for the big games. Hutson Mason is rumored to have asked for seat cushions for the on-field benches, so his backside won’t be asleep if he’s ever asked to enter a game again. Oh, and the diving boards will be replaced before the annual summer practice visit to the pool. I don’t recall hearing anything about a full-sized indoor practice facility. I almost forgot: McGarity also said that new video highlights are being produced to play on the scoreboard screens during TV timeouts.

NCDawg

June 20th, 2013
11:32 am

And for all intents and purposes Coach Saban played it safe after they got the lead in the SEC CG and almost had it the game stolen away. He ended up not paying for it. One first down and all the drama at the end would have never happened. Instead they go 3 and out and survive the last minute barrage. Just think of all the second guessing that would have followed if that pass had been completed for a TD? It didn’t and Bama goes on to thrash the pretenders from South Bend.
