UGA fans, what do you think of the new uniforms?

Here's the new Georgia Bulldogs football jersey. (University of Georgia)

Here's the new Georgia Bulldogs football jersey. (University of Georgia)

The latest Nike uniforms for the University of Georgia have been unveiled. Nike pitches this as a modernization that manages to maintain the traditional UGA look.

You can view a gallery of pictures of the uniforms here.

Here’s what UGA has to say about the changes:

The University of Georgia Athletic Association, in partnership with Nike, has introduced a department-wide brand identity system designed to better define and distinguish what is already a nationally prominent collegiate brand.

The Georgia Athletic Association worked in close consultation with Nike over a 15-month period in order to develop an innovative and cohesive athletic brand identity that reflects the unique qualities of Georgia Athletics while promoting a consistent and unified look across all sports.

The updated identity system still prominently features and reaffirms the traditional Power “G” logo as the primary brand identity. The long-standing color palette of red, black, white and silver have been refined in order to allow for instant team identification. A newly-developed customized primary and secondary letter and number font will provide a consistent, distinctive look for all Bulldog athletics teams. The graphic “GEORGIA” and “BULLDOGS” wordmarks will become consistent visual symbols of the Georgia Athletics organization, and the Bulldog logo has been refined in order to reflect the strong, iconic characteristics of the animal itself as well as the spirit of The University of Georgia Athletics.

“We’re excited about this program whose guidelines embrace the history and tradition of Georgia Athletics and positions the Georgia brand to reach a continually expanding and evolving audience,” said UGA Director of Athletics Greg McGarity. “This program will also bring a more consistent look to our logos, uniforms, field markings, and other areas where our marks are displayed.”

As part of this new identity update the Georgia football team, men’s and women’s basketball teams and Track and Field team uniforms will be updated to utilize consistent new fonts and numbers in competition for 2013-14. All other sport teams will phase in new uniform looks over the next two years.

You can read more about the uniforms here.

Mostly, it’s minor tweaking to the numbers and lettering, as well as the material used. The helmets are the same. The football jerseys are still red or white. The football britches are still silver.

But, as has been the case in the past, the differences are a bit more noticeable in the uniforms for other sports. Check out the back of the home basketball jersey.

So, what do you think?

Exciting news! I think I dig them, but time will tell. We’ll see how they look on the field.

The britches are NOT silver!

They are grey, like some cheap, ugly Ohio State Suckeyes knock-offs, Bill!

They haven’t been silver since the uniform change of 2005, when UGA allowed Nike to do away with the TRUE SILVER BRITCHES!

I had hoped against hope that we would see the return of TRUE silver britches, shiny and metallic like they were in the 1990’s and the Greene & Pollack days.

But no such luck. They’re still the same ugly GREY pants.

I care more about the players IN the jerseys than the jerseys themselves…you can dress AM, TG and company up in leopard print as long as they’re burning through opposing defenses and record books alike.

Football uniforms are fine as they didn’t change hardly anything, but would like the britches to be more silver. The logo on the back of the basketball jersies is hideous though. Looks stupid and cheap. Can’t stand it.

Why a new bulldog head? The old one is iconic. Leave the changes to Oregon and the left coasters.

Erk’s Forehead:

UGA has had secondary logos before. A version showing the full bulldog was introduced back in the 1990s, though it hasn’t been used in a long time. The traditional bulldog head and the power G will be retained.

Glad to know the our athletic association is once again working hard to make sure we field a team with beautiful looking uniforms while our team continues to lose 2 or more games every year; coaches are given raises and fans are stuck with outragous ticket prices

Only at Georgia ;)

I’m tired of all the people coming on here and crying about how we could use our time better and focus on winning more. This is mcgaritys job to oversee ALL sports not just football. I’m not sure if y’all have noticed but this is the kind of thing that helps bring in recruits which in turn helps our football team get better. It’s not like mark right was skipping practice to sit down and draw up all this himself.

Doesn’t seem like Mcgarity is doing much with his authority in other sports…the women’s b ball team is doing well but still can’t win the big one….I guess just like football….I guess some things will never change

Garner should of been fired of defensive line coaching after donnan got let go. Garner did nothing with ray drew in 2 years

How ’bout showing up this year on time for the kickoff and never stop making noise until the game is over.

I have seen so many college teams succumb to companies like Nike with their ‘Pro Clown’ designs. I could NEVER imagine my Dawgs again in uniforms like those that they opened with in 2011.

College football is about more than passing trends and ridiculous styling. It is about tradition and love for a school and a team… where things change over decades, not overnight. My family recalls when Coach Dooley put the big G on the helmets… and when Coach Donnan (temporarily) put the black stripe under the white. And we should all remember those black jerseys that Coach Richt took to a Sugar Bowl a few years back.

All of this is part of the UGA tradition and history now. PLEASE don’t soil it with some sudden horrid uniform that shames our team for decades to come. Don’t let Nike’s design insanities own our Dawgs.

The AJC is still censoring Bulldog posts? I offered an opinion that wasn’t vulgar or obscene but wasn’t in favor of said company and its history of redesigns, either. After two tries, nothing shows. Why?

I was born a bull dawg and I was raised a bulldawg….and when I die will be bulldawg dead!!! But I refuse to drink the kool-aid till we prove it on the field. With the talent level we have….having the top defense in the sec every once in a while is not to much to ask for…….I’m sorry it’s not. I love how our aroffense played last year…u couldn’t ask for more…maybe a few less turnovers. Todd gurley is a beast and will carry us to Atlanta again if our defense can finally learn how to tackle.

Bulldawg35 … please stop the whining about the special teams coach… the NCAA limits how many coaches we can have… we have 2 LB coaches (ILB’s and OLB’s) and that is why we don’t have a dedicated special teams coach. It has nothing to do with being cheap…ok?

The uniforms are ok… minor tweaks..nothing like the combat crap they wore 2 years ago. Nike makes these changes folks… it’s part of their sponsorship so they do these things periodically. The University did not ask for the changes nor did Coach Richt or the AD, no matter what the press release says. It’s the price of corporate sponsorship. They probably toned down the changes to avoid the “Combat” mangling and that was the extent of their involvement. So whiners just zip it… it isn’t a “gimmick”.
I second that motion Bill… they aren’t fans and never were. Just a bunch of sourpusses that can’t do anything but gripe.

It would be considered “retro”, i guess, but i remember in the 80’s/very early 90’s the football jersey had the 1950’s bulldog (standing on all four legs) on the side of the sleeve w/those horizontal black and white stripes.

i always liked that look, but w/the sleeves being so “tight” around the arms/shoulder pads i guess that would not work out. anyway, overall i think all the “new” looks for the sports is ok w/me.

also, Happy for the Lady Dawgs basketball team on a great year, was very close to the final four.

The new AWESOME BULL DAWG BOLD Nike uniforms have not changed UGA in any way! What has changed is the material used to make the uni’s (designed like the Pro Combat DRI-FIT Polyester fabric) and the streamline athletic fit.

This innovative flexible material keeps the players warm and has the wicking ability to keep the moister (sweat & rain) away from the body allowing faster dry times and less weight…. look close at the uniforms you can see a mesh fabric on the sides of the Jerseys and down the side of the pants to enhance breathe ability with constant air flow.

Plus Nike will be bringing back the infamous Silver Britches… they have that material available and an order has been placed… (see Dallas Cowboys pants)

This is defiantly a Positive for UGA and the kids (players) love them… currently only three other college teams have these uniforms!

Bulldawg35 – really? You won’t complain? How come I don’t believe that? You and the other Faux Bulldogs (and most us know who I am talking about) would complain even if we won the NC… you’d complain that the other team scored too many points or that Bobo’s play calling made it much closer than it should have been or some other nit picky crap. You don’t see any problem with being negative all the time so you won’t ever change it.
I will always come down hard on negativity because the world is screwed up enough without blowhards adding more to it. Believe it or not there is a ripple effect from such negativity and it does adversely effect things for EVERYONE. It is concrete science. If you don’t believe me look it up… it might do you some good.

Does anyone use the word “britches,” ever, outside of talking about the silver britches? Just a funny thing that occurred to me.

As far as the uniforms, meh. I generally respect the teams that always keep the same look – the Penn States and Notre Dames. Now, Georgia has been changing their uniforms for a long, long time, so there isn’t just one “classic” look, but I’d be happy if they just went to a simple two tone design. Obviously, the two tones should be white and red, or red and black (the school colors). Silver? Yawn.
