For a Georgia fan, it was kind of tough watching Alabama dismantle the myth of the Notre Dame return to glory in the BCS title game, knowing that it should have been the Bulldogs continuing the SEC’s dominance in the national championship.
But the Tide did it in impressive fashion and deserve all the accolades being heaped on them.
If there’s any solace for the Bulldog Nation, it’s in knowing that Mark Richt’s team was a much bigger challenge for Bama than were the Irish.
Indirectly making that point was Alabama’s head coach. In his postgame interview with the “Gameday” gang, Nick Saban was talking about how tough it was for Bama to repeat as BCS champs, and he noted, “Georgia was five yards from being here tonight.”
I’m not generally a Saban fan, but I thought that showed a lot of class. And it was an acknowledgement of just how good the 2012 Dawgs were.
So, for now, we’ll put aside our worries about recruiting against Saban and fretting over the establishment of a new dynasty in Tuscaloosa and revel in a bit of shared SEC pride.
Well done, Tide! And let’s hope we can resume that battle between the conference’s two best teams in the Georgia Dome come December.

SEC Domination: What exactely in the last 5 years has Georgia done that South Carolina hasn’t? Win the SEC East, Lose the SEC Cahmpioship, win 10 games? THey have done all of that. The SEC is dominant but not becasue of Georgia, it is actually in spite of them!! Georgai fans have to see this, they are looked down on by LSU, Alabama and Florida much like Georgia looks down on Vandy and SC. Wake up and see this

Well, okay, I’m awake, but, really, if LSU and Florida are looking down on us while we are ranked higher in the season ending AP poll then they would need to perform a variation of a yoga technique that makes me frankly uncomfortable to think about.

Bill and the dawg fans here are delusional. this season was an anamoly. with richt coaching against Saban it will be AL bringing home that crystal football anually. How can any serious person think Richt can coach with Saban. GA does not have the discipline to play with a bama team. And how slow does a coach have to be to attempt a fake punt every 7 years. Richt can not think on his feet in game situations…he is dense. We can only wish Homer Smith were alive to write another book on coaching

I’m happy with the Georgia coaching as it is now. And if I remember right, Nick and the Bama boys didn’t exactly have a fun trip the last time they traveled to South Carolina.

This serves as excellant example of why NCAA needs playoff like the NFL, MLB and NBA rather than teams selecton by voters. Several SEC teams would have rolled over Notre Dame.

Even Miss Alabama said thanx to Brent M. The USA is turning into a “whimp/beaten down” country…sad.

Absolutely insane the final rankings. ND should have been 11th at best. I think Texas A&M shouldhave shared 2nd with UGA, OH st 4 and Louisville 5

Tim Dawg: What about South Carolina? Why are you not thinking they should be in the top 5 over you? They did beat you 35-7, right?

With all due respects Fellow Dawgs Saban’s comments while nice mean nothing. Alabama did not beat the Dawgs as the officials by not calling an even game decided the outcome. I am glad a fellow SEC team put the National Media in their place once again by showing up a team- Norte Dame who had no business in the BCS MNC game in the first place when it should have been Oregon. Saban knows he was fortunate in the SECG that the officials were calling most everything on the Dawgs while ignoring almost everything on his team, were spotting the ball forward for Bama and spotting it back on the Dawgs etc. It is what it is though.

LHarding Dawg& BigDawg: This artilce is about congratulating Bama on a great season, now you are accusing the SEC offices being located in Birmingham, as the reason you lost to them. Just congratulate you SEC breathern for being something that you can’t be, a National Champion! You do not have to congratulate them, and then stab them in the back! SEC, SEC, SEC. Doesn’t matter who wins, just as long as it is SEC!
