Bulldog Nation feels a profound sadness mixed with immense pride

Just as I imagine it will take a while for Mark Richt’s Bulldogs to shake off the hurt from their close call with destiny Saturday night in the SEC Championship, the disappointment of the so-close loss to Alabama also is going to linger with the Bulldog Nation.

Talking to and hearing from fans Sunday, the overall mood was one of profound sadness over just how close this team came to playing for a national championship mixed with immense pride over the never-say-die effort the Dawgs gave in the Georgia Dome against the most elite of college football programs.

Only the most ignorant of so-called fans were expressing anger toward the coaches and players over the Bulldogs’ loss. More representative were those UGA students and fans who were on hand in Athens late Saturday night to greet the returning team buses with cheers, applause and chants of “It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog!”

Such a classy display of support filled me with what the folks at Butts-Mehre like to call Bulldog Pride.

Zack Watson of the UGA Spike Squad shows how most of us felt after the loss to Alabama. (Curtis Compton / AJC)

Zack Watson of the UGA Spike Squad shows how most of us felt after the loss to Alabama. (Curtis Compton / AJC)

But now many of us just feel drained. Several fans said they found they actually felt worse about the loss Sunday, once the adrenalin generated by the exciting match had worn off, than they did immediately after the game ended. I know I woke up at 5:30 a.m. Sunday and couldn’t get back to sleep because the game and its many turning points and near misses kept replaying in my mind.

Fortunately, there was a bit of good news Sunday afternoon to buoy Bulldog spirits as the feared fall to a lesser bowl in the wake of the championship loss didn’t happen. The Dogs might not be getting the other BCS spot in the Sugar Bowl, as even Bama coach Nick Saban said they ought to, but Georgia got the next highest available spot in the Capital One.

Hopefully, the resilient support for the program will translate into UGA selling all its tickets to the Orlando game, because as was pointed out on the postgame show Saturday night on the Bulldog radio network, how well a fan base travels factors into future bowl selections. (Tickets are now on sale to the general public.)

Likewise, let’s hope the players — even those who stuck around for another year of college ball just to try for a shot at the BCS, didn’t make it, and soon will be departing Athens — are able to rededicate themselves to ending this season on a high note. Win the bowl game, do it in the same impressive fashion that they took the battle to the Crimson Tide, and they’ll be rewarded with a Top 5 finish and the designation of a great team that fell just short of winning it all.

The Dawgs didn’t achieve their season-long goal of making it to the BCS game in Miami or winning Richt’s third SEC title, but as I’ve said before, anyone who considers this season less than a rousing success already deserves a dose of cold, hard SEC reality such as has been experienced in recent years by the loyal followers of the Tennessee Vols.

As Sanders Commings said after Saturday’s loss, “Any time you win 11 games in the regular season and go play for the championship, and lose the way we did, it’s a good season.”

He added: “We’re sad but we can’t be disappointed.”

Let his attitude provide a model for fans as well.

The Bulldogs did not fail against Alabama. They gave it everything they had and nearly beat a team that was already stamped with greatness. To paraphrase the UGA players’ motto for the season, our team “ran out of time,” as Richt said Saturday. But we should have no regrets.

BCS is a joke.

If you don’t take into consideration who plays in a conference game vs. those who don’t, why even factor in conference championships? So should GA have lost against (much hated) Florida to get a BCS game?

My thought for future…..No matter what a team is ranked pre-conference game, what conference it is, or their overall record… Conference winners should be ranked highest in BCS, and then the runner-up in conference games come next to determine bowl games. Then everyone else who qualifies gets the rest.

If Notre Dame had lost….Florida would be going to Miami against Alabama. Just like Alabama went last year and they didn’t win the SEC conference. Yes, they were the best, and fluked against LSU, but still….putting someone in a better game who wasn’t in the conference championship is like a smack in the face to the teams who are.

If nothing else, we know we’ve got to get tougher upfront, especially on defense. I took away the feeling that we’re pretty close to where we want to be. I hope our returning players add this fuel to their fire for the bowl game and 2013. We can be elite.

Mark “close, but no cigar” Richt lives up to his name again. This clown can get you to the game, he just can’t bring home the trophy. Justify the game however you want, you still lost and a NC won’t come anytime soon now…you blew it!

This alum is proud of the Dawgs and the coaching staff. It’s unfortunate the tipped pass didn’t fall incomplete, but who knows whether or not the next play would have worked or not. While we’re losing several seniors, maybe a few juniors will want to return to give it another shot! The offense should be just as good if not better next year.

Bill-

Thanks for a great job this year. More than anything, I just hate it for the men on the team. I’d remind all Georgia fans that for us, this is largely entertainment. Those boys have put their heart and soul into this for most of their lives. We will go back to jobs, family, etc. They have to live with the result and we know they will be better people for the experience. That is a hard sell for them now.

I thought coach’s comment rang true. Shake their hands and tell them you love them and appreciate them. That is what leaders do.

I for one will see them in Orlando. They don’t have anything left to prove to me. They said all I need to hear last night.

God bless them.

Well said Bill. I am a 1972 graduate, and this is the most demoralizing, hurtful loss ever. Gonna take a long, long, long time to get over. This was a loss of the national championship, and they don”t come often. Nothing more–nothing less! No disrespect for Notre Dame, but there are six SEC teams that could beat them. The championship game will be a beatdown and not fun to watch if you are a Notre Dame fan. This could have been Georgia’s game to win. There were a lot of “what ifs”, and the outcome could have been differently. What I hope the UGA football program gets from this is the attitude they put forth in this game. If Alabama can do it every game, then we can do it consistently as well. If we will implement this attitude every game, then it will be as the late, great Zig Ziglar said, “See you at the top!” Go Dawgs!!!

Bill wrote, “how well a fan base travels factors into future bowl selections.” I don’t think that this rule of thumb applies to the BCS championship game, does it?
And let’s be honest, not too many U.Ga. fans are likely to be thrilled about the prospect of going to Orlando for the Cap One Bowl game rather than to Miami.
And I agree with Sanders Commings’ statement. It was a “good” season. “Elite” teams, on the other hand, don’t play their bowl games in Orlando or Tampa.

No doubt the DAWGS were well prepared. They played their “A” game and left nothing on the field. The Tide running attack was just too much for them. DAWGS have been weak towards the run all year. But they played an inspired game. Murray had a good game. Gurley looked awesome. Just fell short. Very good season, though, especially if we can rebound and win the bowl game.

“There are lots of things in life to lose sleep over. None involves football”

I keep going back to that part and laughing thinking “seriously?”

“UGA beats the #3 team on a “neutral” field, comes within 4 yards of beating the #2 team on a neutral field, and they fall all the way to 7th in the BCS?”

What’s not to understand? “Comes withing 4 yards” does not equal “beating Alabama”, and why would now be any different? You lose you fall. There were only barely ahead of Florida in the BCS, they lose Florida jumped them. They lost yesterday, Oregon won .. Oregon jumped them. They lost their Conference Championship game, Kansas State won their’s, they too jumped Georgia.

doesn’t apply to any of the BCS games, those games have their rules set up … Georgia didn’t qualify under any of them (they could, of course, move to the ACC …. they’d at least go to the Orange Bowl every single year)

Even with an endzone interception, blocked field goal returned for a touchdown, and a perfectly executed fake punt that lead to a touchdown, we still came up 4 points short. That means the other team was better. No shame in that, the Dawgs played their hearts out, can’t ask for more than that.

The atmosphere was electric. I have to add that the Redcoats brought their A game, we were in Section 315 – about as far from the band as you can get in that stadium – and they still blew our hair back.

Richt is widely regarded as an idiot but let’s not trade him for a bigger idiot. Football coaches are known for being dimwitted as evidenced by Georgia’s previous coaches Goff and Donnan. No doubt Richt feels even sicker than his players when he thinks back on his colossal blunder. Keep in mind that this season has been entertaining. Imagine how awful it would be to have a coach like Paul Johnson who refuses to pass.

This article and Bill King are both disgusting. I am sorry but THIS ATTITUDE DISPLAYED BY BILL KING IS SHOCKING AND HORRENDOUS!!! This weak, sniffling dribble going on and on about “moral victories” and “well, we played hard” is exactly the passive, loser attitude that has kept Georgia football down for the past 32 years. It is a fact of life….I said it. I commend the players for keeping it that close with Alabama, despite subpar coaching and strength/conditioning on the Georgia side. I think they played as hard, for a less disciplined football team, and kept in entertaining. However, we gave up 520 plus yards, 350 on the ground, gave up 22 second half points, got shredded on the ground ALL game, and we commend this LOSS? A 11-2 football season, losing to both South Carolina and Alabama, when we had arguably better talent than both? REALLY DAWG NATION?? When will you guys finally wake up, because me and at least a dozen of my friends have ALL written Greg McGarity to demand the dismissal of Mark Richt. He has not won a noteworthy game since George Bush was in office, back in 2005. 7 years ago, we have toiled in mediocrity for long enough. 1-11 vs. ranked opponents in the last few years. We not only accept this, but some vocal minority of weak. loser dawg fans actually LOVE this? I am sick to my stomach, because this sick, disgusting nightmare that is Mark Richt and staff wont leave Athens, and the AD may not kick him out. I may live in misery for 3 or 4 more years…..Very sad day today….

I AM NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!!! AND UNTIL THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA ACCEPTS THAT RICHT IS AN EMBARRASMENT TO THE UNIVERSITY IN BIG GAMES, WE WILL NEVER BE A DYNASTY!!! A football town, really? Athens isn’t a real football town until National Championships and winning big games is accepted, and anything short is not. That’s why Tuscaloosa will be hanging another banner and we will lose to Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl, and finish 11-3, despite 9 starters on defense going to play in the NFL. And how crazy are these fans that think we have EVER been close to a National Championship with Richt at the helm? Even if we had squeeked past Alabama, who handed us 14 points, Richt would have embarrassed the league and lost to Notre Dame by 2 touchdowns in the National Championship. In 2007, we wouldn’t have made it out of the SEC Championship against LSU, considering we had already lost to South Carolina and got destroyed by Tennessee. 2002 was really the only time Richt got even remotely close, and we lost the biggest game of the year against Florida, so not really even then, do I think they would have had a chance in the National Championship Game. I will say the last impressive victory was against LSU in the 2005 SEC championship game. That was 7 years ago, and I am still waiting for another big game victory from Mark Richt….at 3 million a year, that is 21 million dollars we are paying Richt per BIG GAME VICTORY….sadly, only at Georgia is this tolerated….AND EMBRACED!!!!

He knows he is 1-11 in big games since 2009, with that ONE win coming after Florida handed us the ball 6 times. and we still only won by a single score. He knows this is not cutting it with 90 percent of the bigtime boosters and shot callers, and he is feeling the heat finally. I LOVE IT!!!! RUN HIM OUT OF TOWN, and maybe he can coach pee-wee football and do ministry work in his spare time. The outcome will be the same though, he will build up hope and his Athens Thunderbirds will beat up on subpar teams to go 9-1 only to lose 5 straight Championship Games to the Dacula Badgers, the Marietta Warriors, the Warner Robins Wildcats, the Macon Tigers, and the Savannah Scorpions. Cuz, to answer your question. If my predicition is correct, if McGarity acts quickly and fires Richt after the Capital One Bowl (as I REALLY hope for), I see us going after Kirby Smart. He is Saban’s right hand, and will bring better discipline, better strength and conditioning elements, a better defense, and most importantly a hard-nosed, strong, win at all costs attitude that he learned from his mentor, Nick Saban. This is EXACTLY what Georgia needs right now, a change in direction and attitude from accepting underperformance on the field with superior talent, to demanding championships with precise execution and hard-nosed, disciplined, well-coached 4 and 5 star recruits. What a refresher that would be right? Getting these same 4 and 5 star recruits, except they will actually be well-coached for a change.

Maybe God is trying to teach you not to have your life revolve around 21-year-old college students playing a football game. Maybe everyone should stop having their identity wrapped up in whether 21-year-old college students for one school can beat 21-year-old college students from another school at a game. Hardcore college football fans are scary. This thing is like a religion. I enjoy seeing people get their hearts broken over this stuff because people need to learn to grow up and develop some adult priorities.

You know what? I feel about the same way that I did when Dan Marino completed that pass for Pittsburgh in the Sugar Bowl and as proud as i was when my bud told these Penn State fans “I’ll take Georgia and 5″ while we were down 21-3 in that Sugar Bowl. Marino’s pass didn’t ruin my life and this won’t either although it certainly would have been more fun to win.

Bill, you know what Monger’s real emaill address is, why don’t you get him off of your site? But Monger does have one redeeming value. He gave us the name of this coward of a reporter who CMR wadded up and threw away like a used piece of toilet paper. “Are you saying that or is somebody else saying that? Oh yes, and Bama has had a top 1 or 2 recruiting class 4 straight years. Many people were saying a few weeks ago that Bama could beat many of the NFL teams. The “CMR naysayers” were screaming to replace CMR with a Bama assistant(ie Kirby Smart) who gave up 400 yards to UGa including an 80 yard drive in less than a minute when the game was on the line. Yes indeed Bama stopped UGa….well, kinda sorta. GO DAWGS….you are the best!!! P.S. Thanks goodness we kept OUR coaches!!!!

I am proud of our TEAM. The DAWGS played a great game. Congratulations to the players for their great effort in a great game.

That being said, this game was lost on the SIDELINES. What is the difference between Saban and Richt? Saban goes for two points after and makes it, because he doesn’t want to end up down by four points and need a touchdown at the end of the game. He probably realized that if he doesn’t make it, big deal, he will then just be down by 5 and STILL need a touchdown – no downside. Maybe he also had confidence that his players could pull it off. The announcers thought “it was a little early to worry about the two points” but it ended up being a crucial decision.

What does Richt do? Even after Saban shows the way, he either does not think aboout it or decides we don’t need it because we are ahead. Then he ends up in exactly the feared situation at the end – he can’t kick a field goal to tie it up. Our coaching is second-rate, mediocre.

By the way, throwing to the corner at the end – isn’t that reminiscent of Florida a few years back when Murray threw an interception that lost the game – rather than kicking a field goal to keep the OT going (not that I am blaming Murray – I am sure that call came from the sideline also).

While the Dawgs did acquit themselves well by outplaying Alabama for which I am extremely proud of them for. They have no reason to hang their heads but THE SEC needs to face up to very poor and one sided officiating that determined the outcome of this Championship game. Of course Saban can be magnanimous now as his team was given a shot at another National Championship through this travesty.

TO THE MONGER- While I applaud your passion for wanting excellence in our teams as every one of those teams you named I also pull for as well. Georgia was not outplayed or out coached and for ONCE the Dawgs were well prepared and did play extremely well. The shame is that terrible OFFICIATING was the difference in this game and yes there was a mistake by the QB when he failed to spike the ball. Those are heat of the moment mistakes. The terrible officiating though IMHO was deliberate and should NOT be TOLERATED.

The folks complaining about the Dawg’s “crummy” bowl game are truly nuts. We lost 2 games this year yet we’re still playing in a BCS bowl. It may not be the NC but it’s a loooooong way from some of the “Bubba & Ethel’s Bait & Tackle” bowls out there in Podunk being played in a HS stadium on Wednesday morning. Be thankful for one of Georgia’s best teams ever.

My heart was broken, too (and I was even one of the moaners after the SC game) but, face it, we didn’t win the game but we won, and deserve, more respect that we have in quite a while. Other teams have nearly gone the distance and fallen short only to come back the next year and win it all. If we got this far this year, we might be up to conquering that tougher schedule next year.

BIG DAWG, I agree about the one-side officiating. I think a caught a glimpse of crimson jerseys showing through the black and white stripes. I began to wonder if they were the same crew that once called A J Green for excessive celebration in Jacksonville because he smiled at the fans in the end zone.

While, sadly, it won’t change the results, the NCAA owes it to the fans and to clearing themselves to review this game. TV and radio both were busting the officials for “questionable” calls against Georgia and the “overlooked” illegal actions of Alabama. Both terms, “questionable” and “overlooked” were putting in mildly.

If we lose such a huge game because our efforts we’re quite as effective, so be it. If it is due to poor officiating, shame on the organization providing the officials.

IF the field goal was made in the first qtr…Saban wouldnt have gone for 2 pt conversion. Would have been a tied football game on that last UGA drive.

Also, 4th qtr, around 5 min mark…we got the ball back…all we needed was a long drive. Bobo went away with running the ball till it was too late. Came out first down…pass play. Then decided to run on 2nd and 3rd downs. Gurley almost got the first on his own…but horrible play call. Gurley was having some success…and should have slowly ran the ball down the field, running out the clock. Instead…Bama gets the ball back…and the one busted play led to a long TD pass. It was heartbreaking…but the defense was gassed. Wasnt happy with Grantham’s adjustments to the run game. Herrera should have been playing more than Gilliard. And possibly bring an extra big man down on the line. Saban lined up 2 TE sets and ran the ball right at us. Our boys played their heart out!!!! But should have gone to a 4 man front on some occassions. If Conley doesnt slip on that play…he possibly scores on the pylon, or gets outta bounds. Heartbreaker!!!

Look, Florida gets to play Louisville, a team ranked in the 20s. We get to play Nebraska on New Year’s Day. Our game actually has more marquee value. It’s not playing Notre Dame for the national title, but after the SEC heartbreaker it ain’t that bad either. Beating Nebraska will be better medicine than beating Louisville. The whole nation will be watching on TV, and Orlando isn’t a bad place to be at the end of December. I’ll take it.

Actually, the Outback (Michigan) or the Cotton (Oklahoma) would’ve been decent matchups as well. Just glad we’re not staying in state for the Peach, oops, I mean Chick Fil A.

I thought we started this season with too many question marks to be a legit national title contender. I thought the South Carolina game proved the point. Too have come this close really surprised me.

The way we responded over the second half of the season, starting in Jacksonville, is a real credit to our players and our coaches.

In the SECCG, I don’t think you can criticize our effort, our preparation, or our coaching decisions. Really the only thing the coaches could’ve done better would’ve been 2 to 4 years ago to have recruited more depth on the offensive and defensive lines.

A d@mn fine season from DGDs. This is a team to be proud of.

I don’t bash players with the exceptions of dogging it or being unsportsmanlike. They don’t get paid, put in countless hours, and endure the physicallity of the toughest conference in the nation. I will, however, call to question coaching. They get paid the big bucks so they should be able to take some heat. To me lots is being said about the last play. Could have gone either way, just unlucky with the ball getting tipped. The white elephant in the room is 350 yds rushing(only Mizzou gave up more to bama) by the bamers. Their O line is excellent, agreed? I replay the game and one of our young men spent more time in the lb area than on the line of scrimmage. Pretty much stood straight up at most snaps except goal line situations and was promptly driven 3-5 yds off the line. I coaches watching this give the kid some help. Slants, hell just submarine two O linemen but don’t let 700 pds of interference to the lbs develop. My opinion is that Grantham is glad others are taking the heat while he knows some adjustments should and could’ve been made. It has been said that a whole lot of talent goes to Athens, but don’t know what happens when it gets there. Maybe true, I thought that’s what coaches did, get kids to improve, have game plans that give our kids the advantage, things like that. In the end there are two ways to look at it, our guys aren’t as talented or they didn’t have the prep. I think it’s the latter. Our guys played their hearts out, so this isn’t a knock on them, or about one play. It’s about not changing something that flat out ain’t working.

That’s what makes this loss particularly tough because there is no one on the Georgia side who is at fault. If anything fault a lack of depth on the defensive front that had us gasping for air in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Neil Williamson said it perfectly in the post-game show: blame the Alabama defensive lineman who tipped the pass if you really need someone to blame.

the best team won…I love the dawgs and wanted them to win, but it just was not to be….I have no problem with not spiking the ball….we had the play called, Alabama had no chance to adjust… Conley just caught the tip….99% of receivers would have done the same thing…maybe not Alabama’s receivers because they are so much smarter than everyone else’s receivers… unfortunately, despite the pregame statements of Rambo, we lost because their defense was better than ours… they were able to beat our secondary one-on-one, double-team J.Jones all night, and probe our defense until they found the soft spot they were looking for…where Gilliard played most of the night….Shawn Jones warned us about that….most of their yards were up the middle and to their right….what happened to Herrara.. he played very little….give credit where it is due…Bobo and Murray had a superb game…Murray made only one poor throw and it was on the play where Alabama’s defensive tackle took his cheap shot…for sure, our offensive line improved far more dramatically than did our defensive front that buckled and broke…I love the Dawgs but the better team won…if you allow a team to rush for 350+ yards, you don’t deserve to win…ever….

Add the fact that it was my senior year and the feeling was devastating to say the very least. Better the Dawgs would have been lambasted 48-0 so that the cancer which is this coaching staff would have been removed forever. Like moral victories pal? Get used to em under Saint Mark Richt. Plenty more to come! Like SEC championships and national titles? Forget em! Vince Dooley and staff could have had a moral victory in 1980 but they chose to grab the gold ring instead. Cant let the big time recruits get away. Our rushing D was shredded all year long begining with Florida Atlantic. Its time to tell Rodney Garner Goodbye. Mark Richt also needs to understand that Finesse Florida State football of the 1990’s will not work in the SEC against the Big Boys. Next year is going to be really sad and we will be very lucky to win 8 games.

It was a good game; a game all participating players will be proud of as they move on in life. Similarly, the Georgia football program is one that we should and can be pleased with and proud of. Beyond that, I believe that the men who are fortunate enough to be part of the program are better for their participation. Thank you Coach Richt, Coach Bobo, and Coach Grantham.

Why is it the dumbest, loudest, most ignorant Georgia fans seem to make up half the comments here? Is it just that you have no friends or family you can vent to? Finishing as a top 5 team is not success any more? Guess what, there is only one Bama and one Nick Saban. Making that the bench mark for a program like UGA (which was in the wilderness for 15 years before Richt was hired) is insane.

Look at Auburn, Tennessee (Fulmer), Michigan (Carr), Maryland, and a number of other programs to see how smart it is to fire the coach that built the program into a national contender. Hell, UGA is better the last two years than Texas, Oklahoma, FSU, Miami, VT, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, USCal. Name me one year between the end of Herschel and 2002 that would be true for even two of those teams.

At the begining of the season I said UGA should go 12-0 due to our easy schedule with anything worse than 11-1 being an utter failure.

I said that this coaching staff will lose at least 2 or more ball games which is something they continue to do every year

yet everyone is shocked

Once again this coaching staff was outcoached in the big game as Bama made adjustments and we didnt

Our defense was blown off the line and we had no one to come in and give them a rest due to our poor management of scholarships

we continue to think special teams should be our last thing to worry about and the miss field goal hurt us once again later in the game as well as taking a kicker who is able to kick it deep in the endzone we decide to go back to the Failed corner kicking

we continue to show poor tackling technique while bama’s line showed great technique in finessing our D-line instead of trying to blow them off the line; again coaching

we had 7 penalties to their 2 another thing Richt stills doesnt act like penalities mean anything in a game

The players played well enough to win the game and should have won the game but again better coaching was the difference

Now lets all grab some milk and cookies and have another toast to another meaningless Moral Victory

I wondered how long it would take UGA fans to start crying about the refereeing. Not that there was anything to cry about other than that hit on Murray (and Alabama would have still had the ball). But I knew after a day or two, UGA fans would need to block out of their minds the fact that Alabama rushed for over 350 yards. So now the blame shifts to the officials. Pathetic. I know you’re mad, UGA fans, because THIS was your shot. There’s no cupcake schedule to take advantage of next year, and the year after that the playoff system comes into place. This pretty much guarantees UGA will never win a national title under Mark Richt. But hey, don’t fret. You still have your top-ranked recruiting classes to celebrate. Meanwhile, all the other top SEC schools can celebrate their … you know … championships. :-)

I thought the officiating was pretty much fair with the exception of the Murray hit considering the called us for a ticky-tacky hit on McCarron but those didn’t exactly decide the game. There were close calls that went both ways, the INT that called back was close but probably an incomplete pass and got correctly overturned. The pass interference that got waved off because the umpire said the ball was tipped by C. Washington was a close one as well.

Right now, Bama is the yardstick by which college football is measured. Their OL is the strength of the team and the best in college football. We have talented starters, some of them excellent players, but not much depth. The fundamentals of this game favored them. That we hung with them at all, much less came so close to winning, showed grit and determination and solid preparation. Our players made huge plays to keep us in it. One or two plays at several points in this game would’ve been the difference. We’re competitive and we’re beating on the door. That’s where we want to be and that’s nothing to be ashamed of.

I agree … you want to blame someone, blame the Bama player who tipped the last pass.

To question their play on the field or to say ‘I wish they had done this or that’ is one thing. To call into question their heart? their pride? You obviously have no clue what the game of football is about. I said earlier I don’t know what playing college football is like because I am not skilled enough to compete on that level. I only played high school ball. But you see my lack of playing experience in college is the reason for my respect. Lets get one thing straight I do not blame Murray at all for this loss nor have I said that in my posts

Murray deserved to win this game

the game was basically lost really before the game started

Lack of team discipline continues Bama 2 penalties UGA 7 penalties; Richt still thinks penalties arent that big of a deal

No emphases on special teams; missed field once again costs us a game as well as field position during kick offs

Lack of emphasis on having the right number of scholarships cost us being able to rest the D and have them refreshed

Bama changed the way they were blocking our D line thats great coaching

Bama ran 2 backs down our throat

We ran Marshall 2 times that was it

Our TE were exposing their D all night yet we went away from them basically after Rome caught the TD and didnt use them until the last drive

Bama adjusted Like LSU like Michigan st; like Boise St on our Defense and we still do nothing to respond

The reason why the game was as close as it was; was do due to NFL talent on the field

My response is to all these moral victory appologist who think UGA is somehow on track to win championships; get used to 9-10 wins over nobody while losing the big games cause that is all we are going to see

bama doesn’t have NFL talent?

This is my biggest complaint, people act like Mark Richt simply can’t coach and all 117 of his wins are sheerly because of his talent which we all know is WORLDS above Florida, LSU and Alabama’s right?

Aaron Murray, AJ McCarron
Todd Gurley, Eddie Lacy
Keith Marshall, TJ Yeldon
John Jenkins, Jesse Williams
Brandon Smith, Dee Milliner
red apple, green apple

the only spot on the field where we had more talent than Bama was in our LB corps and even there it was a slim edge, meanwhile Bama had a big edge in their OL over our OL. I sort of see where Rambo was going with the ‘we have more talent’ thing because in terms of big name guys I guess we have one or two more who are considered “stars” but Bama doesn’t really have a weak spot

I don’t think Tavarres King or MM is better than Amare Cooper personally, and if you considered Arther Lynch and Jay Rome as ‘Great’ TEs then you need to say the same for Michael Williams because he is about the same level.

My point on Marshall is he needs space and a one-on-one situation with a LB so he can put on a move and use his breakaway speed. That space was simply not available against Bama’s D. Yeldon is better than Marshall, he actually has some level of physicality to him and I think you agree our OL is nowhere near their OL. Gurley was PERFECT for what kind of runs we needed.

I agree about the secondary but it needs to be divided. Our SAFETIES are better than Bama’s but our CORNERS are not. Damien Swann is a ball hawk, when crazy things happen he always seems to end up the one with the football in his hands, but as a cover corner, well he’s less than impressive.

Like you, I wonder how many of our Fellow Dawgs actually ever played football and how many of them actually paid attention to what was happening along the line of scrimmage. Bama was only flagged twice in this game and one of those was for delay of game on that play that was going to be a fake punt, yet conservatively they should have been flagged for obvious holding at least 10 times. To me it is a wonder we were in this game at all and had a chance to win at the end. Also how many of my fellow Dawgs paid attention to the spotting of the ball I did and it was the same thing spotting it forward for Bama and spotting it back on Georgia which aided Bama’s running attack. The officials called tacky penalties against Georgia stopping us on offense in the first half thus our defense was on the field an inordinate amount of time and they wore down thus also aiding Bama in some of their success at running the ball. While ignoring that flagrant personal foul on Murray after that interception just before halftime which led to that field goal giving Bama a 10-7 advantage at halftime. If the officials had called that personal foul and yes the replay shows the head official looking right at it and he calls nothing maybe Bama starts around their 40 yard line instead of in Georgia territory and the clock runs out. But we will never know huh, also the tacky block in the back that was called then they penalized the Dawgs 15 yards oh I forgot they adjusted 1 yard forward so they only penalized 14 yards. It was a penalty that was supposed to be from the spot of the foul, yes it occurred at the Bama 35 not the 40 or 39. Instead of being 3 rd and 10 we would have been 3rd and 5. Might have tried another long field goal huh and maybe this time it would have been good. See bad calls have an effect and the cumulative effect of spotting the ball forward for Bama added around 80 yards to that running total over the course of the game while taking away about that much against Georgia.

See my Fellow Dags should be demanding that THE SEC see that this kind of blatant miscalling of a game stops. If they can’t or won’t call it even then they have no business officiating a ballgame much less a championship game.

Hopefully this game is a turning point for UGA. No longer will they roll over and play dead, they will fight until the final second runs off the clock.

Also, I think we need to give a lot of praise to bobo. He has taken a lot of ridicule, and grantham has taken a lot of praise. While the offense didn’t perform great, who has against bama, the offense was able to keep us in the game when the defense was getting ran over.

Yes, PollAck does fine work at ESPN. I had no problem with PollAck picking Bama, someone asked me about an hour before kickoff if I had $10,000 to bet on this game who would I pick, I said Bama. What a lot of people need to understand is that a lot of us know the Dawgs gave their all in this game but AGAIN this team comes up short. I know all of you feel like people have been bashing CMR and Murray but we have not. We have been stating facts! THe fact is in the 3 years Murray has been a starter he has won exactly (1) big game (barely) this year against Florida. CMR has been our coach for 10 years and we have not come close to a BCS title game until this year. If you enjoy moral victories then CMR is your coach.

Monger in all of your so called games played did your team ever lose? These guys played their hearts out and came up short. You or no one can predict what a Kirby Smart team would play like. I do believe the Dawgs had 400 yards of offense and the Bama defense allowed them to move the ball 80 yards for a potential game winning last play. Look, you can’t convince the moral victory crowd that Richt is never going to make UGA a championship-level program, despite the overwhelming evidence, just the same as you can’t convince Obama supporters that he has done absolutely nothing as President, despite the overwhelming evidence.

Nothing will change until the people who matter, AD Greg McGarity and the select few that give him the most $$$$$$$$$, decide they’ve had enough of the moral victories under Richt. It’s a shame that they are too scared to take the risk of trying to lure a good head coach from another program like Patterson, Briles, or Fitzgerald.

Anyone who believes that pride and commitment to giving all you have, all that you are, and leaving everything ounce of yourself on the field at the end of the game, even in a losing cause, is not worthy of praise and appreciation has never played the game or competed at any higher level. Anyone who would fault the players or staff in this loss, a game for the ages, must only value winning as the sole measurement of achievement. I learned more about myself and my players in a loss than in games won. What I saw was a team that should have quit from exhaustion, but did not. An exhausted defense reached down for something they didnt even know they had in that last defensive stand, and the offense executed like a champion. They simply ran out of time. Glory Glory to Old Georgia. Nothing more needs to be said.

I’m a Tech fan, and although the expectations are certainly higher for UGA, you have to be proud.

This 2012 Georgia team is the best the state has fielded since 1980.

And personally, I think you replay this Bama game 10 times, UGA wins 6 or 7 times.

UGA and BAMA are 1 and 2 in the country this year.

With your excellent recruiting and coaching, you will be back to this opportunity sooner than later.

Face it people, the Sugar Bowl just ain’t what it once was since the inception of the BCS. Georgia has a better game than Florida at the Cap 1 Bowl. Louisville??? Really??? That’s a garbage game.

It’s also time for people to put away all of the whining over what a conference champion should “deserve”. Conference playoff schemes often fail to pit the best two teams in a conference. Do any of you really believe that Oregon is not the best team in the PAC 12? Is Wisconsin really the best the B1G has to offer? I don’t think so. Does Louisville deserve a BCS game more so than does Northern Illinois? No way!!!

This artificial bias toward conference champions is detrimental to the best conference (or conferences). Guess who that is? That’s right… It’s us.

We should let the best play the best in the post-season and stop whining to create more back-doors for teams who failed to perform on the field of play.

I am a bit surprised that with alignment or personnel groupings that Grantham couldn’t come up with anything to stop or even slow down Bama’s rushing attack in the 2nd half. I’m guessing if he could of, he would of. disappointing how bad we played the run all year with that much talent. Our defensive stat ranking nationally was due to all the rushing yards they gave up during the season. Unless we get 3 or 4 freshman to step up next year, the defensive projections of starters look a little scary.

Each of the individual plays hasmuch to be celebrated; the resiliency of these young men is noteworthy; for example, someone told me that Aaron Murray went 8 for 15 after taking a blind sided hit by an Alabama player. It would be very easy to get your brains scrambled and not get up. Yet he did and almost led his team to victory.

Strong character. Very strong character.

And then to have to listen to the drivel of people like Mr. Oliver who profess to be professional sports writers. Such arrogance to pass on gossip and innuendo as if it is fact.

Weak judgement; very weak judgement at best. And this without the benefit of having a hit to scramble his brains.

(1)C.M.R. record is 2-18 (note that reads 2-18 or one win every 10 tries to simplify even more) when playing top 25 teams.(Explains why no one picks us to when the big games including David Pollack.)
(2) C.M.R. has complied his coaching record by beating inferior teams same as Ohio State and other pretenders).
(3) C.M.R. has not gone to a B.C.S. bowl (with 2012 being his ONLY real opportunity) . With players he totally recruited (so much for myth of five star recruits equating to championships). C.M.R. lived off JD players when he went to B.C.S. bowls (which is self explanatory).

Only morons embrace defeat and moral victory! What did the Dawgs actually accomplish? Did they play better that most believed they would? Yes. Without a doubt. What is lost in this picture is that the Dawgs did exactly what everyone predicted they would do. Lose to Bama. Plain and simple. Years from now no one will even remember who Alabama whipped for the 2012 SEC title. Only that the Crimson Tide were champions. Guess Dawg fans are just too damn ignorant or delusional to get it! IS EVERYONE DELIRIOUS?????

We were only in this position because we did not have to face the same teams that USC and FL did!!!

Everyone says we would have beat LSU because we beat FL and FL beat LSU….. Get real, we needed 6 turnovers from FL to beat them. Do you BLIND people use the same logic to think maybe we would have lost to LSU because we got crushed by USC and USC got beat in the last minutes by LSU?

We were only in this game again this year because of the weakest schedule in the SEC-E…. that is not an opinion but a fact.

Out of 12 teams we played only 4 FBS teams had a winning record!!!!!!!!!!!! 4 Teams and we were 2-2 against teams with winning records.

We only played 3 ranked teams and were 1-2 against ranked teams with our only win coming at the hands of the GAYTORS who gave us the game by turning it over 6 TIMES!!!

We were only close to Alabama cause we had a 21-24 point swing off of turnovers (Alabama only got 3 points off our turnover). Real score should have been about 28 to 10.

Our problem is that we believe the hype….we are not a team, but a bunch of pampered individuals.

December 4th, 2012
9:43 am

Congrats to the Dawgs…. easy schedule or not, it is an accomplishment to go 11-2.

Was talking to one of my Dad’s friends who is a scout for an NFL team.

He said the scouts really like Aaron Murray …. he is one of the top 3 quarterbacks in the upcoming draft and his stock is rising due to his performance against BAMA. Apparently Matt Barkley was no 1 but there were some questions about him due to injury.

I asked him about height, and he said Murray is 6′1″ and is fine. He says there are many successful QB’s 6′2 and under (started naming, Romo, Brees, Russell Wilson, etc…).

Said that many are comparing Murray to Drew Brees with his great ability to read a defense and his laser accuracy on the short and long throws.

He felt Murray was best positioned to come out this year as he is probably at the peak of his exposure. Didn’t feel UGA and Murray could be in the same position next year given the losses they will have to the NFL and the tougher schedule.

So, I hope he stays, but know he is probably gone.

Wish Aaron Murray well! You almost got us there and gave us hope.

“Grantham couldn’t come up with anything to stop ”

Look Grantham is vastly over-rated by the UGA beaners as a DC but the 370 yds rushing can be laid at his feet this time.

When Alabama basically runs one running play the entire second half to gash the UGA front 7 like they did, then they are simply better than you. Bama basically ran a inside iso-play on every down the second half and whipped UGA man to man…that is not Grantham’s fault.

Obviously Spurrier embarrassed Grantham earlier this year, but Bama just physically whipped UGA man to man.

I am very proud of my Dawgs but I do not buy the we blew our best chance line that everyone is spouting. Yes, we will be graduating or watching most of our defense go to the NFL. But we have alot of young talent waiting in the wings. We also have almost all of our offense returning. T.King and M.Brown will be leaving but everyone else is coming back. Our O-line will only get better. Even if Murray goes pro, we have Hutson Mason who has been in the system 3 years. With Gurshall and an even better O-line, we will be a pretty formidable offense.
If the young pups on defense can get their act together fairly quickly, even with the more difficult schedule next year, I think we will be pretty good. If the offense is prolific enough we may be able to get back to the Dome despite the more difficult schedule. I guess we will see.
For now lets go pop some popcorn and end up with 12 victories.

Frankly I was sad because when I listened to the Moral Victory Speech from the post game radio. I realized right then that UGA football will never play for a national title for probably another 30 years.

Cause all I heard was a bunch of whinny excuses from the refs to not being able to recruit like bama

I would be wasting my time talking to the AD because we have too many Moral Victory loving fans like you that continue to be suckered into delsusion

What will be the rally cry for next year?

Weve heard

Dream Team II
Energy Vampires

we are going to be playing Cutting Edge Football

I guess this coming year will be we had a Moral Victory again so we are almost there

NC Dawg- the dregs of eternal pessimism? Its called reality. Mark Richt HAS lost at least 2 games EVERY year, except 2002, so how is that not fact. He lost 7 games in 2010. 4 games last year, and at least 2 this year, probably 3 after we lose to a much better coached Nebraska team. How is this not reflective of truth and fact. In the last 3 years Richt has lost 13 games, and those are the games WE AS TRUE FANS are talking about, the matchups against good and GREAT teams like Alabama and LSU. Richt is 1-11 in those games in the last couple years. You guys were shocked when we lost to Alabama, I was not. (and it wouldn’t have even been close if Alabama hadn’t handed us points like turning the ball over on our 3 yard line, and our blocked field goal return for a touchdown, a 10 point swing in one play). You were shocked when SC blew us out 35-7. I was not. You guys were shocked when LSU blew us out 42-10. I was not. You guys were shocked when Boise State came in and blew us out in the Dome. I was not. You guys were shocked when we lost to Central Florida, Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Michigan State. I was not. That is the TRUE and UTTER DIFFERENCE. You guys BLIND yourselves intentionally to Mark Richt’s failures, and just as I thought, after another FAILURE in the SEC Championship Game, as I predicted you losers would be on here patting Saint Mark on the back, and tallying up the “moral” victories in this statistically lopsided game. LOSERS and a disgrace to the UGA football program. If you guys were smart, you would be petitioning McGarity for Mark Richt’s dismissal right now.

So lets see, with relatively similar recruiting classes and similar talent throughout the South ( Georgia, Florida, Alabama). Both coach Saban and “coach” Richt make about 3 million dollars a year, with huge fanbases, and top of the line resources (gyms, practice fields). Yet expectations, and thus results, are VERY different.

Alabama Crimson Tide and Coach Nick Saban from 2010- Present have lost 2 games in the last 3 years, due to disciplined, well-coached recruits, who gain a passion to win the big game and uphold the Alabama winning tradition from Coach Nick Saban. Basically he gets 5 star recruits, and uses the best resources and best coaches to turn them into the best football players in the country, as a whole team, not individuals.

Georgia Bulldogs and “coach” Mark Richt- 2010- Present. HAS LOST 13 games. Central Florida, Michigan State, Boise State, Colorado, LSU, SC (twice), Alabama… you name it and Richt has probably lost to them. He gets great 4 and 5 star recruits (just like Saban), has great resources (just like Saban), however, these players are undercoached, with poor game planning and poor strength and conditioning throughout the year. They play undisciplined, look lost on the field, are out conditioned and thus we have an NFL caliber defense give up 520 yards to Alabama, 350 on the ground, and commit 7 penalties to Alabama’s 2.

Mark Richt has lost 13 games in the last 3 years. Saban has lost 2. End Game.

What bothers me is the University was basically threatened by Grantham for a pay raise yet he has basically shown absolutely nothing in big games other than being scored on by 30 points or more in all but 1

Then Richt demands a contract extension having not beaten a top 20 team in over 3 years with the idea of we have to keep recruits from going somewhere else

Really Ive seen enough of our players go to the NFL with no championship in 7 years

I mean give me a break and yet Im not a fan because Im not jumping up and down screaming we won another Moral Victory

I take it that you did not attend the Moral Victory Ceremony in Athens yesterday with AltamahaDawg and his pal Nancy. As I understand it, all of the players got participation ribbons and attaboys from the AD while the coaching staff received their draft outlines for new pay raises and contract extensions. The closing anthem was Kumbaya and was sung by Watergirl while the coaches and players sobbed together in a group hug.

I don’t believe in moral victories either. But I also don’t blame every loss on the coaching staff or assume that until that coaching staff goes away that they will ALWAYS lose at least 2 games a year. Where did I ever say anything about moral victories? The Georgia Bulldogs came within an eyelash of going to the National Championship game… a freaking fluke prevented it. NOT BAD COACHING. Your idea of the perfect coach blew it at the end of the first half and his almighty, “never ever make any mistakes team” screwed up not 1 but 3 special teams plays.

UGA has put more players in the NFL than any team in the SEC in over a decade and will do it again this year and yet every year we find a way to lose 2 or more ball games and have not won an SEC championship since 2005 much less even sniffed the National Title

A fluke you say; how is it a fluke when bama came out in the 2nd half making adjustments and running it down our throat and yet we couldnt stop them

or yet another key missed field goal that this coaching staff refuses to take special teams seriously
or yet we have 3 times more peanalties than bama cause this coaching thinks penalties are something not to worry about

Fluke because a tipped ball hit a receiver square in the chest and he reflexively caught it. That is the difference in the game. For all of Bama’s yardage they still damn near lost the game. Yes… brainlocked because in your world everything is about coaching… and sad news- IT IS NOT. Is it bad coaching that with the game on the line… bama could not run out the clock on UGA? Is it bad coaching that we shredded their almighty defense and minus a FLUKE play probably would have scored and won the game? NO… it can’t be bad coaching because it’s Saban. Jeez…

Terrible. Wretched. Horrid Judgment.

“Oliver, part of the “Chuck and Chernoff Show” on 680 the Fan, said he used “awful, terrible, wretched, horrid judgment” in posing such a question after Georgia’s emotional 32-28 loss to Alabama, a game many are calling the greatest SEC championship game ever.”

I’m not one bit a “Moral Victory” person. We lost. Period.

Having said that, there is no shame is being defeated by a hair in one of the best college football games anyone has ever seen, by a mighty foe, in a game which could have easily turned out the other way.

Every Alabama fan I know has told me they know how lucky their team was to win. Why? Because it is true. Both teams played tremendous football.

Have we had a great season? Not in my view. The season is not quite over. Should we manage to lose the upcoming game against the Nebraska team I would say our season is very much undermined. We need that victory to cement an excellent overall season. It’s possible that we may achieve what I’d call a nearly great season if we play lights out football and beat the tar out of Nebraska.

I’m all up for celebrating the accomplishments of this year’s team, but they still have something to prove first. Great and nearly great teams bounce back.

Go, Dawgs!

I suppported Murray’s decision to not spike the ball with 10 sec remaining. We had Bama confused and on-the-ropes near the goalline. Murray is a veteran and observed they were not set and played man coverage on Mitchell. Opportunity was there for a TD in the back corner but unfortunately the ball was tipped at the line and we will never know. I believe the pass would have either been a TD or incomplete pass out of bounds. Either way, Murray wanted a hurry up play with expectation for another play after with about 5 seconds left. I support our QB and our coaches. Just bad freakin luck, Again.

Georgia is a great team and had a great year. The haters are scared to death; they know it. The Dawgs weren’t just beating what is likely the best team in the country; we had them on the ropes. We had several opportunities to put it away and they kept making big plays. Any objective observer knows how well Georgia played and how close we were to being in the NCG vs ND. Richt and staff did a fantastic job. I wouldn’t trade him for anybody, and especially anybody we could hire. Gurley gained a whole lot more than what Alabama gives up to entire teams, on avg. He gained more than any other back facing Bama this year. Our line blocked the best D in the country surprisingly well, and the whole starting offense is back next year except for King and Brown. The offensive line gets the most improved award. Murray is obviously the big unknown. He had a good line last year, but they allowed tremendous pressure. If this line keeps getting better, and Murray returns, UGA should have its best O in history. D is going to need a lot of work, but we should be very strong again next year. If Ogeltree and Jones would come back, I would be at the BCSCG party in February. This fan is very proud of the coaching staff and players! So close to the prize, and that is tough to take. But the haters are absolutely wrong.

I mean really people, the only coaches you would attract are upstarts with no real experience. That would set our program back about 10 years, or you can be patient and know that when we DO win under CMR, there will be no sanctions or probation.

Any Dawg fan that wants to complain about the players or the coaches after this incredible run this season should do so directly face-to-face, man-to-man. Here is the letter I just sent Greg McGarity, who I believe relies on FACTS and reason, unlike you so called lunatic fans, that support and embrace LOSING the biggest games of the year EVERY year. IDIOTS. 3 friends also sent letters similar to this, but with a little different wording, as they are their own letters. Finally, we are uniting to get Richt out of town….Anyways here’s my letter to McGarity…

Hello Sir,

Mr. McGarity I have tremendous respect for yourself and the entire University of Georgia. I am a proud 2007 graduate, and a successful chef who contributes to the athletic association on an annual basis. I just want you to know that I have never been so ashamed by some of the so-called fans and alums of this University than I have since the loss to Alabama. I am at a loss for words as to why so many alums are proud of the loss, as well as the coaching staff. Correct me if I am wrong but how is giving up 520 yards of offense, including 350 rushing, something to be proud of. Especially, considering we have 9 NFL caliber players on our defense. I did not agree with extending Grantham and giving him a raise, and I still don’t. I just want you to realize FACTS about the program (that I know you know, but want to reinforce). Despite similar recruits, facilities, resources, and financial status, Nick Saban has only lost 5 games in the last 3 years, while Mark Richt has lost 13 games since 2010. The answer is clear as day…. Alabama is a well-coached, well-run, well-conditioned program with top notch atheletes striving to be their best. Georgia is under coached, under prepared, and can’t play with teams of similar stature in the SEC. It is evident by Mark Richt’s 1-11 record against teams that finished the season ranked since 2009. How can you justify paying 3 million a year for this ineptitude sir? I understand he is a good man with clean, Christian values, but are we not trying to win Championships. The nail in the coffin is the simple fact that Mark Richt has not delivered a Championship of ANY kind since 2005, 7 LONG years ago. How much longer do we have to wait sir? Despite top 10 recruiting classes every year, he fails to win A SINGLE big game (outside of the florida game, in which Georgia was given 6 turnovers to work with), and Alabama is yet another in a LONG list of failures in big games by this regime. I ask you humbly to please help the REAL supporters of UGA football, and bring us a staff that can not only compete every year, but win championships on at least a somewhat consistent basis. I was embarrassed of Mark Richt and the University at his childish outburst at the post SEC championship interview room, in which Richt stormed out of the room like a toddler have a temper tantrum, at a truthful evaluation from a reporter asking him about his meager record in meaningful games. I hope you evaluate THOROUGHLY the state of this coaching staff and the direction of this football program, which hasn’t won a championship in over 7 years, despite top 10 recruiting classes and millions of dollars from investors like myself being funneled into the athletic program. Thank you for listening, sir.

Sincerely,
Keith Thompson, Alum 2007

BTW, Richt didn’t storm out of the press conference after Oliver asked his question (for which Oliver has since apologized). I actually watched the press conference (which you apparently did not). Richt waited until there were no further questions. The moderator/host asked “Any further questions?” There were no further questions and so CMR got up and left. Now, he did come back in and defend his quarterback and his coaches which is what anybody with any sense would want their head coach to do. But it is a bald-faced lie to say that Richt stormed out of the press conference when Oliver asked his question. When there are no further questions at a press conference it IS customary for the coach to get up and leave.

P.S. I can’t claim original credit to the letterhead joke. I read that it originated with the owner of the Cleveland Browns when they lost a championship game against the New York Giants.

P.P.S. I don’t think I would take a National Championship if it meant that my team would have to go without a win in the conference two years later and a serious NCAA investigation and be bad for a long, long time (which looks like is going to happen to Auburn). Reasonable minds can differ about that but I don’t think that’s a good trade off. If a National Championship is that important, just jump on the bandwagon of whoever looks like they are going to win the National Championship each year you’ll always be happy. Yeah, yeah, yeah Bama fans, I know you’re going to say “or you could just say Roll Tide.”

P.P.P.S. Isn’t it a sad comment on the Georgia so-called fans when the Bama fans seem to be the reasonable ones?

WISHINGAWAY

December 5th, 2012
7:14 am

I have been wondering what has been going on the past 12 years or so with everyone abandoning the UGA in favor of other programs, and I include my own family members in this (lifelong UGA supporters). Everyone jumped ship to Auburn, Florida, LSU, and certainly Alabama. I used to see nothing but black and red on the vehicles, now all I see is crimson and white. I used to get mad at these people for abandoning their program they spent most of their lives supporting. But I must admit I now seem to understand why, as I contemplate the same. Richt had a couple of good years right off the bat (this was with Donnan’s players). Donnan never got any support and was booted out before he could solidify the program. Richt has done very little with the program unless you consider the continual crap he puts out year after year. Just enough to keep him cozy with the AD and Chancellor, but never enough to get the JOB DONE! This is why we are where we are. Everyone calls the SEC CG game a victory! EXCUSE ME! More of a national display of incompetence on the part of the coaches and their staff. I believe the players did all they could with the meager coaching and training they receive. There is a reason over the years that fans jump ship, such as old Detroit fans jumping to Green Bay, or Cincinnati jumping to Pittsburgh, or Vanderbilt jumping to Florida. People eventually get tired of supporting losers and being laughed at year in and year out. It may takes years, but eventually they all get to that point (and don’t say they don’t). Some of you sound as if the School was a child and you would run in front of a running bus for it. Sorry, won’t buy that one either, and you know it. If just playing the game was the point then there would be no keeping score, no keeping of statistics, no records, no playoffs, and certainly no championships. No, it is more than playing the game, as Herm Edwards would say “You play to win the game”! Georgia had a year where they stomped every shoddy team available, but lost (and almost lost) to SC, Florida, and Alabama. Fortunately we did not have to play LSU, Alabama, or Texas A&M, or we would not have been at the SEC CG anyway. And everyone wonders why the entire Nation picked Alabama, because they know that Georgia does not have the pedigree to win. The SEC CG was a debacle from the start. All I heard all year was the NFL caliber players we had, how our Thunder and Lighting, (GURSHALL) were going to rip teams apart, how our coaching staff had made strides on both sides of the ball. They made no such strides. 350 YARDS RUSHING? And lets not speak of the person they call a QB. And the last 30 second effort will forever be etched in my mind as the most idiotic football playing I have ever witnessed. So do I continue to endure this, or do as thousands (maybe millions of others have done) and jump ship. That means starting all over reinvesting myself again. And I just don’t think it’s in me to support Alabama or a Florida, it would be like french kissing my sister (i just couldn’t do it). But then again do I continue to put myself through a nightmare year after year knowing that things will never change, surely as long as Richt and Bozo are in charge? Food for thought, food for thought. The game was sad, the outcome sadder, and our future even sadder than that. All I can say is what a waste, what a waste. So long…………

ok, that was cathartic. good to get that out of your system. I don’t agree with people who say that alcohol is the mirror to the soul or that one finally reveals the truth of what they think when they are really mad. I think that people say things that they don’t really mean when they are drunk, mad or drunk and mad. So, you are forgiven.

But if you really meant it in the cold, sober light of day, then I think you are probably right. Everybody (you, the team, everybody) will probably be happier if you just move on and find somewhere that you are happy.

All these people who are complaining about their pain and embarassment about being thrashed by a top ranked South Carolina team need to listen to us old folks about when we got thrashed at homecoming by Virginia 38-0. People who complain about a close lose to Kentucky can listen to us described being beaten 44-0 by Kentucky at home. All of these under the Great Vince Dooley. All the people who are complaining about CMR need to look at what’s happened at Tennessee and Auburn and realize that if we take their advice, that is infinitely more likely than that the next Saban is sitting at home waiting for the phone call from us. Our glass isn’t half full, it’s one nanoliter from overflowing but still people will complain and die of thirst than enjoy the fruits of a great season with a great team, a great coach, a record smashing quarterback, a GATA defense and kids who played their hearts out so that idiots could criticize them.
